Chapter 5: Evaluation

"How should I rate him?" The examiner thought as he swirled his stylus around. In all honesty, Shivan De-Wani was pretty bad. No, that was sugar-coating it. It was downright terrible.

His physical abilities were well below the other gift users around him. Compared to Ryan Coeruleus, the examiner tested before him, he was practically worthless.

Though anyone else would look bad compared to Ryan. He was a once-in-a-century genius, achieving the highest overall entrance score since the founding of PCA.

Pairing up his excellent mana output and control with his overwhelmingly powerful gift, he would be a force to be reckoned with.

However, the examiner heard from his coworkers that the other gift users this year were also extremely talented. The academy hadn't seen so many talents in 51 years since the 'Golden Year.'

'We might have a repeat of that year. If that's the case, then Palentia would be able to reinforce its status as the strongest nation. The higher-ups will be happy.' The examiner smiled as the thought appeared in his mind.

"Anyways, I should get back to evaluation."

Surprisingly, Shivan wasn't beaten in every category. He surpassed Ryan in terms of reflexes and to his astonishment, held one of the highest times for the gun reflex test in all of history.

That was probably a product of his gift.

"Speaking of the gift, I forgot to ask him what it was. Whatever, I'll ask Doc to do it."

The examiner suspected that if Shivan's mana output were greater, he would've been able to move fast enough to last longer than the current record holder.

In terms of agility-to-reflex ratio, Shivan had by far the highest.

Well, that was all just speculation.

'Anyway, I should stop thinking about unnecessary things and grade Shivan so I can move on to the next person.' The examiner chastised himself as he wrote on his tablet.

Strength - Very Low (Self-explanatory)

Speed - Very Low (Top movement speed)

Agility - Low (Ability to change directions)

Reflexes - Very High (Ability to react to incoming attacks)

Mana Capacity - Low (Self-explanatory)

Mana Output - Very Low (How much mana can be used at once. The greater the mana output, the greater the person can enhance physical abilities and offensive abilities. Therefore this is considered the most important stat.)

Overall Evaluation: Shivan has very low abilities across the board. The only significant capability is his reflexes. Struggled significantly against the captured aberrants and possibly could have died during the test. The low physical abilities and mana output are presumed to be from a lack of mana training as his mana output and control increased by a substantial amount when injured.

Potential: A rank

(AN: All gift users have a potential of least B- rank)

The examiner didn't know why he put Shivan's potential at A rank. Based on his score, Shivan should only be C+. Though B- would be the given rank and B would be pushing it.

But his instincts as an examiner and educator were telling him to put Shivan's potential at A rank or more. It was rational thinking that stopped him from putting his score at A+ or even S- rank.

'Let's see if he will be one of the best of this generation or if my instincts were lying to me.'

"Are you awake?"

As Shivan gradually opened his eyes, he saw a young woman in her late twenties appear in front of his vision.

She had long brown hair tied in a ponytail. She was wearing a dark blue dress with a white lab coat on top.

She was scribbling something on her tablet.

"You can leave whenever you want. Though, keep the bandage on your arm for a week. The scratches will be fine within a day since your natural regeneration as a gift user will heal it quickly.

The injuries were not particularly dangerous. It was just the dark mana was a problem. Had I not purified it, you may have needed to amputate it."

After hearing the Doctor's words, Shivan sat upright and sat on the side of the bed, examining his condition.

He was still wearing the same clothes as before, albeit a bit damaged due to the fight with the aberrants. And his jacket was folded next to him on the bedside.

The bandage around his left arm was bound tightly. It was a bit uncomfortable and the bite still pained him, but he could comfortably ignore it.

"I was also sent your examiner report. Your mana output was quite low for a gift user. In fact, it is barely higher than a regular person. Do you ever train?"

The doctor questioned Shivan with an almost disapproving tone. However, he felt that she was mostly confused.

"Nah, never cared about it." Shivan gave her a curt reply.

"Really? I would've thought most kids your age would solely be interested in getting stronger.

Also, didn't your school encourage you do to it? You're allowed to use mana in certain competitions and you gain fame and many prizes if you win."

She furthered on with her questioning.

"Couldn't be bothered. Too much effort." He responded again with a brief reply.

"Then why'd you even come to PCA?"

"I don't know, maybe because it's a change of pace?"

"You know, you'll die if you act like that..."

"So? I don't care. Is dying such a big thing?"

Shivan's answer caught the doctor off guard. Shivan didn't know what she was thinking.

Shivan suspected that she thought he was lying. Or maybe because she knew he was telling the truth, the doctor acted this way. Though Shivan wasn't bothered either way.

*Cough Cough*

"Anyways, your phone and wallet are on the desk, while your suitcase is in the corner. You may move to your assigned dorm. You should've received the address if you check your emails."

To break the awkward silence, the doctor instructed Shivan on what to do.

He packed everything up and got ready to leave. He couldn't be bothered changing into different clothes as the destination was close by.

"Also, I almost forgot. You have to tell us the name of your gift. The name has to be sensible and describe a certain aspect of your gift."

'Gift naming?' Shivan had years to think of the name of his gift. He didn't want it to be complicated or flashy, so he settled on a simple name that accurately described his abilities.

"Wavecraft. That's my gift's name."
