Chapter 116: Chapter 115

[Third Person's PoV]

Cid watched with an amused expression as Mary made sure he was alright before jumping back into fighting the ghouls and zombies.

He leaped towards the top of one of the buildings before donning his Shadow outfit. Slowly, he made his way towards the Crimson Tower, rendering some of the ghouls and zombies unconscious instead of killing them, knowing they would likely revive.

As he passed through a red-light district, he heard the sound of a woman screaming from one of the buildings.

Shadow disappeared and reappeared inside the room, where a fat, unclothed zombified man leapt towards an unclothed woman bearing marks of abuse. Shadow's slime suit covered his hands as it turned sharp, forming a sword. With a swing of his arm, Shadow decapitated the man without hesitation.

'And here I was hoping to keep my hands clean of blood for a bit until my daughter is born'

"W-Who are you?" she asked before a catwoman beastman appeared with worry.

"Marie! Are you okay?"

"The name is Shadow," he replied, answering Marie's earlier inquiry, and he healed her with a wave of his arm, taking them by surprise.

"It's dangerous to stay here. If you want to survive, then run away," Shadow advised before disappearing once again.

They heard the sound of metal hitting the ground. Where Shadow once stood, they found a small leather brown bag with a few golden coins sticking out the top.

'Shadow,' Marie reiterated, promising herself to remember that.

As Shadow reappeared outside, Claire emerged from the shadows to his side. Immediately, Shadow gave her his orders, "I have a mission for you, Adelphi."

Hearing him call her by her Shadow Garden name, Claire's outfit changed to that of what everyone from Shadow usually wears, with an eye mask and her hair tied into a ponytail. Her usual relaxed and teasing expression was gone, replaced by a serious look as she awaited his instructions.

"I need you to go and find the vampire hunter known as Mary. She is currently in this town. Bring her towards the Crimson Tower. Beware, as she's a vampire herself, but she is one of the good ones," Shadow explained.

Claire, taught by Alpha, knew not to question Cid when he was in his Shadow persona. She nodded silently, keeping her curiosity in check, before surrounding herself in lightning. She turned into a blur as she jumped and ran from building to building in pursuit of Mary.

Meanwhile, Shadow walked towards the Crimson Tower with steady steps.

"So, are you the one known as 'Mary the Vampire Hunter'?" Adelphi asked, appearing on top of a building with a graceful pose, her hand resting leisurely on her sword handle as she looked down at Mary.

Mary, surrounded by ghouls and zombie corpses, looked at Claire suspiciously. "And if I am? What would you like to do with that information?"

Adelphi nodded. "I have been given the task of guiding you towards the Crimson Tower."

Mary drew her sword and pointed it towards Adelphi, her expression serious. "Were those orders given to you by Crimson?"

Mary's eyes widened in shock as she felt Claire's sword pressing against her neck and another one against her back, right towards her chest.

'I didn't even see her move! What is that speed!' Mary thought with worry.

Adelphi scoffed. "I follow no such man. If I wanted you dead, you would have already been disposed of without your knowing. I serve a different master. He told me to guide you, mentioning that you are a vampire, but one of the good kind."

"The good kind, huh? I don't think I've ever heard someone refer to me as such in a long time," Mary said, surprised to see no animosity or hostility in Adelphi's eyes.

Adelphi backed away, seeing no need to threaten Mary any further.

"Do you know why your master wants you to guide me towards the Tower?" Mary inquired, still feeling suspicious.

"It's not my job to know. It's my job to follow orders and do as I'm told."

'She mentioned her master calling me one of the good ones, and she doesn't seem to bear any hostility. She wants to guide me to the place I was going to go anyways… might as well have all the help I can get. After all, she's strong, so she wouldn't be a burden,' Mary thought as she nodded.

"Very well, I'll follow along. The Crimson Tower was my destination all along."

As they ran towards the Crimson Tower, Mary asked, "Tell me, what do you truly know about me?"

Adelphi raised three fingers. "Three things: your name is Mary, you're a vampire hunter, and you are a vampire yourself."

'She doesn't know anything else, does she?' Mary inwardly sighed.

"Do you at least know about the current predicaments?" Mary asked with an awkward expression.

"All I know is that this is caused by the blood moon," Adelphi said with a serious expression.

Mary outwardly sighed before explaining, "Since we're about to enter the tower together, I might as well start informing you. This is all a ploy for the revival of our queen Elisabeth. They're using this chance to gather human sacrifices to nourish her revival."

Mary then transitioned into telling Claire her backstory and how everything else came to be…

Meanwhile, Shadow saw members of the Spellsword Association having difficulty against the ghouls. Upon closer inspection, he realized that they weren't just ghouls—they were literal vampires. Without hesitation, he called one of his shadows.

"Tusk, take care of them," Shadow calmly called out.

Tusk appeared, holding his red orb with a wicked grin. He conjured 'Hymn of Protection,' creating a barrier around the Spellsword Association, which took them by surprise. Their surprise grew upon seeing Tusk walking behind Shadow as he walked past them.

Tusk then used 'Hymn of the Blazing Fire,' conjuring a wave of fireballs that flew towards the vampires, causing them to scream out in complete agony as they turned to dust.

As Shadow walked ahead, he slowly said, "Arise," which brought forth the vampires as shadowy beings who sunk into the ground before each joining Shadow's shadows.

And with that, he disappeared from their view alongside Tusk, causing the barrier that was protecting them to disappear as well.

Leaving all of them with their mouths hanging wide open in shock, one of them stuttered, "W-Who was even that?"

"I-I think that's Shadow… the one that attacked the God of War Festival, the one that almost killed every single person in the city," the leader of their ragtag group informed them.

After Tusk was done, he sunk back onto Shadow, who continued making his way towards the tower.

As he approached, he saw two different people fighting with their weapons out. One was a nine-tailed fox with snow-white hair and blue markings on the tips of her tail, wielding a metal fan as a weapon—Yukime. The other was a tall, tanned skin man with dreadlocks wielding a heavy sword—Juggernaut.

Shadow appeared in between them as they both swung their weapons towards each other, stopping them both with just a finger.

Shadow turned towards Yukime and smiled. "It's been a while… you sure have grown."

Yukime's eyes widened as she remembered the man who saved her life and helped bury his mother.

"Azrael…" Yukime muttered, her eyes widening in surprise and excitement at finally meeting her savior.

[Third Person's PoV]

Yukime looked at Shadow excitedly. "I see, so you go by a new name now, huh? So you're Shadow."

She smiled warmly towards him. "So it was you who have been saving some of my girls. You never change."

"Oi! Old hag, you know this fellow? You seem happy to see him," Juggernaut asked, curious to know about the man who was able to stop both of their attacks with a finger.

Yukime nodded her head. "Heard about him as well. He is the man who could destroy a single city with a wave of his hand if he so much pleased. He's Shadow, the leader of a mysterious organization that no one really knows anything about."

"I see… I thought the rumors of him were a bit exaggerated, but to be able to stop my attack like that… that just means I can't stand still and let this Shadow get ahead of us. I'm going to be the one that's going to defeat the Blood Queen," Juggernaut announced, stepping forwards towards the entrances of the Crimson.

Guarding the entrance was a former captain of Knights, turned rogue due to his large bloodlust. He was wearing a white cloth that covered his entire body with a straight katana with bandages for a handle.

"I gained the moniker of White Demon–" Juggernaut couldn't care less as he charged ahead.

"Coming through!"

The 'White Demon' stood there awkwardly as he realized who Juggernaut was, so he knew he couldn't do anything and decided to let him pass without any trouble.

Yukime looked towards Shadow with a seductive smile. "I hope we can get to talking later so I can properly thank you for all your help. Now if you excuse me, I have things to do."

She walked past the 'White Demon' while giving him a cold look, covering half her face with her metal fan, which caused him to shrink back in fear, realizing who Yukime was as well.

'Your daughter has grown, hasn't she, Yukihime?' Shadow conversed with his shadow soldiers as he walked towards the Crimson Tower as well.

'Yes, she has. She already has 9 tails. She must have worked really hard. I'm proud of her, my liege,' Yukihime responded.

The 'White Demon' grinned with bloodlust, ready to swing his sword as he thought he didn't have to worry about Shadow.

As Shadow walked right past him, he thought Shadow was being arrogant, but his chest lifted upwards slightly. His body dropped to the ground with a thud, and in his place stood a grim reaper-looking shadow wielding the same weapon the 'White Demon' was holding.

The reaper-looking Shadow soldier immediately sank into Shadow's shadow without much thought.

Shadow then entered the Tower without any obstacles, which caused him to smirk.

Adelphi and Mary burst through a wall, revealing Beta in a library, scrimmaging through the books with other Shadow Garden members in higher places doing the same, conducting their research.

"Beta," Adelphi called out, nodding to her, to which Beta nodded right back.

"You brought company," Beta said, looking at Mary. "If it isn't the 'oldest' Vampire hunter."

Mary gave her an awkward expression. "Does everyone in your organization just know who I am?"

"No, some can't be bothered. The only reason why I know is because I'm personally researching vampires and the progenitor blood. Do you know of it?"

"For what reason would you need the progenitor's blood?" Mary asked suspiciously, with narrow eyes.

"We believe that there is a link between the blood of your Progenitor and Possession," Beta explained while flipping the pages of her book.

"What you just said could be considered blasphemy against the progenitor," Mary growled.

Beta shrugged her shoulders. "Why should I care? She isn't my progenitor. Anyways, shouldn't you be heading up to stop the resurrection upstairs?"

"My job was only to guide her towards the Crimson Tower," Adelphi said, about to laze around and wait until Shadow was done.

To which Beta shook her head. "If the master wanted her here, it's for a reason. So you should see it through to the end and deliver her to him personally on the top floor where he most likely is waiting," Beta instructed with a serious expression, looking at Adelphi in her eyes.

She let out a sigh as she nodded in understanding. "Let's go," Adelphi said towards Mary with a serious expression.

Mary didn't like appearing like a burden and looked displeased with the way they were treating her.

"I can take care of myself just fine, you know…" She said with a serious expression.

"Uh huh," Adelphi plainly replied as they went up the stairs, where they would occasionally meet vampires.

Adelphi surrounded her sword in flames before she disappeared and reappeared with all their heads in her hands, gripping them by their hair and throwing them on the floor.

"Let's continue," Adelphi said as they continued climbing, meanwhile, Mary looked at Adelphi's back in disbelief.

'Strong, very strong, and it looks like she was taking orders from that Beta girl… which means she's stronger, but then… who do they serve? I can't even fathom what type of being is able to control these girls and make them obey him,' Mary thought as they made it towards the next floor, where they saw Juggernaut slash a vampire in half with a heavy sword.

Juggernaut then noticed the company and smirked with a battlelust towards them. "You two sure as heck don't look like vampires, but I guess you'll do just fine for a bit."

Adelphi sighed as she disappeared where she stood and appeared before Juggernaut. But before she could do any damage, Juggernaut blocked her sword with his, causing sparks to fly between them.

Adelphi's sword blurred as she started swinging it and slashing it towards Juggernaut with the intention to kill.

Juggernaut, using his instinct, would block it and try to counter it.

Mary was about to join, but Adelphi stopped her. "Stay out of this."

Lightning flashed in Adelphi's eyes as her figure blurred. She left behind a light trail as she ran past Juggernaut, who blocked her blow with his sword purely instinctively. More and more trails started appearing as a crack appeared on his sword.

He tried to swing his sword and strike Adelphi with a wicked grin, but Adelphi was simply too fast. All his sword ended up doing was destroying the ground where they once stood.

Adelphi increased her speed and started drawing blood from him before he grabbed his sword with both hands and started spinning in circles. Adelphi flipped into the air, causing Juggernaut to miss before she landed right on his blade and thrust her blade forward, impaling Juggernaut right through his glabella. As her sword went through, Juggernaut was frozen in fear as he knew his life came to an end.

Before he could utter any last words, Adelphi sent a bolt of lightning through his sword and right into his brain, frying it completely until there was no recovery.

Adelphi took her sword out and flicked the blood off before positioning it to her side. She turned towards the frozen Mary and asked, "Well, what are you waiting for? Let's go," before walking away. Mary shook her head and sighed before following closely behind.
