Chapter 83: Yennefer

The woman riding a black horse has long black hair like a raven, violet eyes, a star-shaped obsidian amulet around her neck, and a beauty mole under her mouth. She has a special charm and has attracted the attention of everyone present as soon as she appeared on the stage. Wayne knew who she was, the sorceress whose fate was linked to Geralt, Yennefer of Vengerburg. He gazed admiringly for a few seconds, then turned his head to look at Geralt, and sure enough, he found the famous White Wolf, staring at the woman intently, with strange emotions in his usually calm eyes.

He secretly laughed in his heart; the purpose of bringing Geralt this time was nothing else but to let him drag Yennefer, this time in the dragon-slaying team. Yennefer is the most difficult to deal with and is very stubborn. To achieve her own goal, she is a woman who can be ruthless.

The sorceress rode to the side of the bridge expressionlessly and glanced at everyone present. Her eyes stayed on Geralt for a few seconds longer and seemed to fluctuate. But she didn't say anything, and after the crowd in front gave way to her, she rode a black horse to the soldiers.

The naive guard soldier scanned Yennefer's body with greedy eyes, and swallowed quietly, but this big soldier also knew that the woman in front of him was something he couldn't afford to mess with. So he said in a somewhat rigid tone:

"No matter who it is, without a pass, you can't cross the bridge."

The sorceress didn't respond to him with words; she reached out and took out a paper pass from her jacket pocket and handed it to the soldier.

The soldier reached out to take it and looked at it, then took out an original version for comparison, nodded, whispered a few words to another soldier, and then opened the way to the bridge. Yennefer got on her horse and glanced back at Geralt in the crowd. Just as she was about to ride across the bridge, a voice stopped her.

"Yennefer, please wait a moment."

Recognizing that it wasn't Geralt's voice, the sorceress looked back indifferently and saw a tall, handsome boy walking towards her with a smile. Initially, Yennefer didn't want to pay attention to him, but when she soon noticed the boy's amber cat eyes and pointed ears, her heart moved, and she asked in a low, feminine voice:

"What's the matter, Witcher?"

Wayne leaned in front of the sorceress, faced Yennefer's scrutiny without any embarrassment, and whispered:

"Ms. Yennefer, are you also here to hunt dragons?"

Yennefer snorted, "Hmm," and noticed that Geralt, who was still in the crowd just now, seemed to be approaching her, so she asked impatiently:

"Say something quickly, don't hide like a little girl, I'm in a hurry."

Following her line of sight, Wayne also saw Geralt, who was a little timid and wanted to approach but was afraid of being rejected by Yennefer. He laughed and said:

"You are a noble sorceress, and you go to hunt a dragon in the deep mountains and old forests, how can you not have a guard with skills? How about you hire my famous companion, Geralt the White Wolf, as your guard?"

Yennefer looked at Wayne in surprise, wondering why this young witcher, whom she didn't know, would make such a suggestion. However, she thought of her purpose this time and took another look at Geralt, who was standing a few meters away with an awkward expression, snorted, took a small purse from his belt, threw it at Wayne, and said in a domineering tone:

"This is the Two Hundred Orens."

"Let him come over. However, if you want to be my guard, you must obey my orders. You can't leave me aside for no reason and run away without a trace."

Wayne knew that Yennefer was very angry when Geralt woke up one morning and left her, running away without saying a word. This was also one of the main reasons why they fought a cold war for several years.

"No problem. We witchers always keep our promises. This time, he will guard you tightly and will not run away again."

He smiled and picked up the purse, put it in his pocket, then nodded to the sorceress, walked a few steps to Geralt's side, and under the somewhat inexplicable, even puzzled gaze of the White Wolf, said quietly:

"Brother, I will leave this sorceress to you. You don't need to worry about the others. You just need to stop her from slaying the dragon."

Geralt was a little dazed at this moment. From the moment he saw Yennefer, his mind was all on the sorceress, but he didn't expect Wayne to suddenly run out and make a deal with Yennefer, selling himself to the sorceress as a bodyguard.

Although his purpose this time was to protect Yennefer from being harmed in the dragon-slaying operation, such a sudden change made him unable to adapt.

Geralt was silent for a few seconds before saying stiffly:

"You should have discussed it with me first."

"The time was too tight just now, and there was no time to explain."

Wayne said something perfunctory, then patted Geralt on the shoulder and said:

"Remember, my brother, watch over your sorceress, and keep her out of the way until we're done with the others."

After speaking, he didn't give Geralt time to refute and handed over his mount and the supplies on the horse to Geralt.

Then he pushed the stiff witcher to the side of Yennefer, who had been waiting impatiently and turned to leave. I have to say that Yennefer is really Geralt's nemesis to some extent. After being pushed by Wayne to the sorceress, I don't know what Yennefer said to him, but Geralt immediately became honest and followed behind the sorceress. Watching the backs of them leaving, Wayne walked back to Borch and said to the three people who had been waiting there:

"Let's leave here first. If there is no pass, there is no other way unless we force our way through."

Borch looked at the backs of Geralt and Yennefer with some curiosity and was a little curious about the relationship between the two. However, this time everyone came to do business, and there was not much time for him to gossip, so he nodded, followed Wayne's pace with Téa and Véa, and rode away from here. The four of them rode all the way for about ten minutes.

After there were no other outsiders around, Wayne suddenly spoke to Borch and asked:

"My friend, now that you have arrived here, you don't have to hide it from me anymore. Can you tell me your real identity?"

Borch was a little surprised, blinked his eyes, and asked:

"What are you talking about? My friend, my real identity or something..."

Wayne looked at Borch and saw that Vea and Tia looked at him with an inexplicable look. He didn't care but stretched out his right hand, showed the golden ring on the little finger to the three of them, and said:

"Borch, um, or Lord Villentretenmerth you must not have guessed that I am the warrior blessed by the Goddess of the Lake. Before setting off, Her Lady Goddess told me that among the people I was traveling with, there was an extremely rare golden dragon in the world. I guess it must be you. This may be the reason why you want to save the green dragon. Am I right, Borch?"

Borch first opened his mouth in surprise, then stared at the seemingly simple ring on Wayne's finger, which exuded a certain mysterious color. After a pause for two seconds, he laughed loudly and said:

"It never occurred to me, Wayne, my friend, that you are such a special person."

"Since you know that I am a dragon, why do you still accept my commission and come here?"

Wayne shrugged, with the same smile on his face, and said:

"Didn't I tell you that when we were drinking together?"

"We are friends. I don't care about race or anything."

Borch laughed again and said:

"Okay, okay, you are really a miraculous person. Is this also the reason why the goddess of the lake favored you?"

Wayne just smiled and did not answer this question. Of course, the goddess of the lake did not tell him about the identity of the Golden Dragon, Borch.

"Actually, I didn't expect that I would become friends with a dragon, and it was also a rare golden dragon. It stands to reason that a golden dragon is just like a phoenix. It is just a legend and does not exist in reality."

Borch stroked his beard, smiled, and said:

"This world is so big, and you haven't seen it with your own eyes. How can you conclude that the golden dragon and the phoenix don't exist?"

"Anyway, I was born as a golden dragon. Since my existence is a fact, there is no reason to deny it."

Wayne waved his hand, his expression became serious, and said:

"As for the topic of dragons, we can talk about it in detail later, but I didn't call out your identity to make you look ugly or have malicious intentions."

"What I want to say is, since you are a dragon, a golden dragon that can fly in the sky, why should we care about that troublesome pass?"

"We don't need to go around and play those tricks. We will find a remote place later, and you will turn into a dragon body and bring me, Véa and Téa to the side of the green dragon."

"We can make arrangements in advance in the green dragon's lair."

"And you should have heard that your green dragon has been injured. I happen to have some magical healing potions on me. Maybe this can help that green dragon and save her from suffering more."
