Chapter 78: Manticore School

An hour later, in the dining room of Wayne's house, a steaming bowl of beef soup was brought from the kitchen. Wayne looked at the three people who had been seduced by the aroma on the table and made them fidget, then showed a slightly smug smile, saying: "Everyone are welcome, come and taste my new dish."

Borch laughed and handed a bottle of wine worth three hundred Oren to Wayne. Then he picked up another bottle, poured himself a glass, reached out to pick up a fried, flour-wrapped, golden crispy chicken wing from the table, and couldn't wait to stuff it into his mouth. After chewing a few mouthfuls, he couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of hot air, gave Wayne a thumbs up, and praised: "It's so delicious, Wayne. I've never eaten chicken this way."

"Crispy, soft, and tender, it melts in your mouth. Is this a new dish you invented?"

"Yes, this dish is called fried chicken, and it is my exclusive invention." Wayne didn't explain too much but picked up a medium-rare fried steak with a fork, chewed it slowly in his mouth, and said with a smile: "I'm ashamed to say that, as a witcher, I'm actually very talented in cooking. Everyone who has eaten the dishes I cook has never been full of praise for my cooking skills."

"Maybe when I'm old and can no longer fight monsters, I can open a restaurant by myself, and it will definitely become the one with the best business." Borch laughed, appreciating Wayne's humorous attitude.

He picked up another roast leg of lamb from the table and, while eating it with relish, began to tell all kinds of interesting things he had encountered in other northern countries. Most of them were absurd and funny things made by some idiot nobles or ignorant farmers because of various stupid ideas.

Borch's eloquence was good, and Wayne listened with gusto. At the same time, he couldn't help but sigh in his heart. There are really too many strange and interesting things in this world. All kinds of stupid things, only you can't think of them, but they can't do them.

He turned his head and saw two beautiful Zerrikanian girls sitting on both sides with regretful expressions, tasting each dish on the table, looking like they wanted to eat but didn't dare to eat, and couldn't help but smile.

Wayne guessed that they were probably afraid of eating too much and getting out of shape, so he smiled and handed over two plates of fresh fish and shrimp caught from the shore of Lake Vizima. And told the girls that this kind of food will not make people fat, so they can eat it with confidence.

The two Zerrikanian girls took the food with a smile and began to eat in small bites. The sweet and sour taste made the two girls so addicted to eating that they couldn't stop.

Looking at the beautiful Zerrikanian girls, Wayne suddenly thought that the golden dragon Borch came from the Zerrikan Kingdom and was worshiped as a god by the local residents, and has always been worshiped and believed by the people.

These two girls are the selected exclusive guards, responsible for protecting the safety of the golden dragon, and they can almost be regarded as Borch's fanatics.

And in the Koraz Desert where Zerrikan is located, there is still a branch of the witcher, which is the Manticore school that many northern witchers know little about.

Wayne was also very interested in this group of witchers, so he asked Borch: "Borch, you once lived in Zerrikan, do you know anything about the local Manticore School of Witchers?"

Borch paused for a moment, thought for a dozen seconds, then picked up the wine beside him, moistened his throat, and said, "Indeed, I have also heard rumors of this school. They used to serve the Zerrikan royal family. They were the exclusive guards of the royal family members and their envoys. They were very respected and trusted by the ruler."

"However, in an escort operation 100 years ago, all of them were dispatched, but they were attacked by a powerful fire elemental, a monstrous creature standing 20 meters tall."

"In the end, their main members lost their lives, their mission failed, and they lost the trust of the royal family."

"Now, the witchers of the entire Manticore school have also disappeared. I have looked for them, but I have not found any trace of them."

"I heard that the main job of these witchers now is to serve as guards for traveling caravans, and they seldom hunt other monsters."

Wayne nodded regretfully. There was some introduction to this team in the game. In Toussaint, there was even a blueprint for the master suit of the Manticore School, which came from a member of the school called Morden. And their school seems to be very good at using alchemy items and has special research on alchemy. However, since they still have members alive, there may be a chance in the future to meet them.

After answering Wayne's question about the Manticore School, Borch also became interested and suddenly asked with great interest:

"I heard that the witchers in the north accept commissions, kill monsters, and save other villagers as their job."

"Wayne, I wonder if you will travel thousands of miles to the other end of the world to kill a monster for a high reward?"

Hearing this, Wayne shook his head amusedly and said to Borch:

"No Borch, you take the profession of witcher too seriously. Although we have more power than ordinary people, we are just a group of ordinary people. There are good people and bad people, some stick to principles, and some use unscrupulous methods."

"Also, you may not know that the reason why most witchers choose this path is not voluntary."

"Most of us are orphans with no support or children who have been abandoned by their parents because of the accident rate."

"Just because I want to continue to live, I am forced to undergo training and become a witcher."

"And after becoming a witcher, not only do we have to face those dangerous and disgusting monsters every day, but we also have to be bullied by those stupid farmers and despicable nobles. This is not a pleasant thing."

"If there is no high remuneration, we don't even have money to repair armor and equipment, we don't have money to buy food and fodder for mounts, and we don't even have money to go to brothels to vent the loneliness and pressure we have accumulated in our hearts."

"Just like ordinary people chasing wealth, most witchers are willing to travel thousands of miles to kill a monster at the other end of the world for a large reward to live a better life!"

"As long as the pay is high enough."

Having said that, Wayne shrugged his shoulders, motioned for Borch to look at the gorgeously decorated villas around him, and then said mockingly:

"Of course, I'm talking about most witchers, and there are some differences between me and ordinary witchers. I'm not short of money now, and I won't do things I don't like because of a little money."

"However, if the remuneration can really impress me, or the other party is a person worthy of help, I don't mind helping them a little bit."

Borch was a little surprised when he heard the words. He didn't expect the other party to be so frank in front of him and express his thoughts without hesitation, instead of covering up like ordinary people or using sophistry to beautify their behavior.

Borch thought for a while, then suddenly asked: "What if someone offered you a high price to deal with a dragon that destroyed a village? Oh no! You can't say that."

He paused, reorganized his language, and said:

"This dragon hasn't done anything yet, but you know, in legends, dragons are ferocious and vicious monsters. They spew out flames, destroy villages, steal treasures, capture virgins, and kill humans."

"The dragon-slaying warrior is often a supreme honor, which will bring you wealth, prestige, and status. Wayne, if there is such a dragon, don't you want to have the glory of a dragon-slaying warrior in your life?"

Listening to Borch's words, Wayne, who already understood his true identity, smiled inwardly. It was really interesting for a golden dragon to persuade a witcher to slay a dragon. However, Wayne still thought about it seriously, and then replied under Borch's gaze:

"Borch, I am not a narrow-minded racist, nor am I entirely human. I am a half-elf. As for intelligent creatures, I only kill those monsters that are evil and endanger others. And those intelligent creatures that are kind and will not harm others, I am even willing to be friends with them."

"If what you're talking about is an evil dragon that causes harm, I don't mind giving myself the title of Dragon Slayer Warrior. If you are talking about a kind dragon, an intelligent race willing to communicate with me, I will not take the initiative to harm it, and I am even willing to accept its entrustment to protect it."
