Chapter 55: Rize's Choices

Binge Eater, Gluttony. Due to her eating habits, Rize posed a threat to most Ghouls in various districts of Tokyo before her disappearance in the Steel Beam Incident, where, if not for the Master Crow's help, she would surely have died.

Born into the Washuu Clan, Rize is the illegitimate daughter of the former CCG president, Tsuneyoshi Washu. She was a voracious and independent Ghoul who acted as a femme fatale for those who fell victim to her charms.

She was an enigmatic woman with many acquaintances who were left with a mysterious impression of her, and those who clashed with her rarely came out alive, except for Kazuichi Banjou, who found her self-reliance and strength attractive.

Before meeting Kenzo, she was extremely selfish and gave little or no thought to the difficulties her compulsive eating habits caused other Ghouls. She had no ambitions and wandered aimlessly to appease her boredom before being rescued by Kenzo's organization.

At the moment, Rize sat in a large library beneath a beautiful hotel that had just been built under the influence of the Three-Eyed Crow organization.

"How mysterious you are. I never thought you would come before me without your gracious mask. Even before we spoke, I never thought you were similar to that disgusting man who is my illegitimate father," said Rize, sipping coffee while looking at a book. In front of her was Kenzo, who looked at her with a mysterious expression.

"I had to run to District 14 and bring it under my influence after his dogs wanted to bite my cats... A long story that I don't want to tell right now, but the important thing is that I'm here now, and it seems you've recovered," Kenzo showed no emotions in front of this woman who could bite him if he wasn't careful.

"Are you worried about me? That's so charming of you," Rize replied as her smile widened. She wanted to see how Kenzo's thought process worked. Although she was thinking this way, in her heart, she wanted him to express more than what he hid behind his tired expression.

"Since we're both headed to the same destination, I'll listen to whatever you want to tell me before focusing on the complete conquest of Tokyo. Whom should I kill and whom should I spare? I know you know many things that I don't, so if you know something about my enemies that I don't, I'd like to hear it," Kenzo said calmly as he looked at Rize.

Rize remained silent; many of the things she knew she hadn't told anyone in this place, so for that reason, she knew perfectly well why Kenzo was here. But before she could formulate a sentence, he spoke again, "Love, revenge, fear, hunger... We all feel the same, and I truly desire something more!"

"What should I do to make you unconditionally join me, Rize?"

Rize was surprised when she heard Kenzo ask her that question. She had thought she would be forced to choose between escaping or directly joining a man she didn't know well.

Who would have thought that Kenzo would ask such a special kind of question? As Rize was pondering this, she didn't know what to answer, even though she had been in this place for more than a week.

After a moment of silence, Rize made a gesture with her hand and said, "There's no need to ask it that way. Aren't you thinking of forcing me to answer?"

It was also at that moment that Kenzo noticed she seemed to hesitate out of fear or distrust. He then thought to himself that he needed to make her understand his worldview. How could he, as a man, accept that someone would doubt his convictions and objectives?

"First of all, I want to get to know you better. How about we start with something small like that? If later you want me to answer your questions, I'll do it without any lies. Am I not a reliable man? No one has given you trouble since you came to this place, right?" Kenzo reached for the coffee cup and drank calmly. He hadn't expected that the coffee served by his old man was much better, despite their differences.

Rize had no disagreement. Although she had some doubts about Kenzo's words, Kenzo's response had made her feel comfortable with him. If he had instantly put her on the defensive, she would never have trusted him.

"It would be more interesting to exchange answers to our words. How about I start?" Rize asked with an excited smile hidden beneath a charming one.

"Go ahead, you can ask me anything." Kenzo extended his hand and agreed.

Rize, upon hearing this, nodded and asked, "Exactly what do you want to achieve with your organization, and how far are you willing to go?"

"Two questions in one, but I'll answer since I'm the most interested in your story..." Kenzo sighed and said once again, "My goal is to carve out a solid path for Ghouls in the human world where they won't be persecuted and killed. Additionally, in that regard, Ghouls wouldn't have to harm ordinary people."

"Wouldn't that lead us to discrimination if you achieve something with that foolish dream?" Rize asked, questioning Kenzo's goal.

"That's inevitable, and we'll overcome it together..."

"Have you even thought about it?"

"Of course!" Kenzo set down the coffee cup and said, "But it wouldn't be different from what the world has witnessed throughout its history. A clear example would be racism; the world wouldn't be as it is today without the figures that fought against racism throughout history. Their sacrifice to defend the rights of excluded and mistreated people in favor of a just and egalitarian society has changed the course of humanity."

After saying that, Kenzo pointed out, "But there's still a long way to go. Irrational hatred against people of another race continues to emerge deep within human hearts, and it's inevitable. But even so, if we are united and strong, we will overcome it."

"Are you saying you'll be just like humans? Sacrifice yourself for the world you're seeking; is that what you want with your goal?" Rize couldn't understand Kenzo; he definitely wasn't a man who would sacrifice himself for someone else, let alone for a goal he desires with so much emotion, as he demonstrates with his words.

"I have a dream! That's what Martin Luther said... That man was the voice of Afro-Americans suffering from racial discrimination for years. In 1955, he initiated a nonviolent protest against racial segregation following the arrest of a black woman, Rosa Parks, who refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man."

"He led a peaceful protest in Washington where he delivered his famous 'I have a dream' speech. In it, he expressed his desire for a future where whites and blacks could coexist as equals in harmony. In 1964, at the age of just 35, he received the Nobel Peace Prize. Only a year later, in the midst of the struggle for the equal rights of the black race, he was assassinated," Kenzo said as he lit a cigarette and looked at Rize with profound subtlety.

"Martin Luther King's speech is profoundly optimistic and hopeful. It proposes the ideal of a society based on the values of equality and brotherhood, with full recognition of the civil rights and individual freedoms of the African American community. But that is different from us Ghouls, as we use violence to live, and an ideal world where we coexist is something that cannot exist."

After answering the question in detail, he placed the cigarette in the ashtray and said, "We will use a different method; we will deceive humans and use them according to the laws of this deplorable country. First, we will play with their emotions. Then, we will make them question their decisions, and finally, we will offer them a healthy way out."

"What if that doesn't work?" Rize asked, extremely fascinated to see if Kenzo's dream would triumph or shatter.

Looking around, Kenzo smiled and said with a charmingly cold gaze, "Then we'll attack. At that moment, we will bite like we've never done before and take hold of this country by the throat. Terrorism would be the way out. I am not moral at all, so that is the path I would take. When humans are on the brink of despair within this country, we will create a hero, just as the CCG pretends to be."

Satisfied with Kenzo's well-developed answer, Rize nodded and said, pointing at him with her pinky finger, "It's your turn; you can ask anything."

"Who is your father?" Kenzo asked, throwing punches in the air as he anticipated a satisfactory answer. Rize is connected to most of the problems he has to face, so he assumed that could give him an answer to his question.

But then he realized he stepped on a very delicate mine regarding Rize because that question triggered a subtle change in her smiling face. However, as she was willing to answer, she began to speak after a few minutes.

"My non-legitimate biological father is Kichumura Washuu, head of the Washuu clan. That bastard had a fetish for raising illegitimate descendants, among them, and the ones I remember, are Kishou Arima, Kichimura Washuu, Hairu Ihei, and myself, Rize Kamishiro," Rize said as her unconscious eyes turned crimson.

That answer left Kenzo trembling with fury; his hands clenched, and he asked, "So, what relationship does he have with Organization V?"

"Under the facade of kindness, he is a hypocrite. He himself is a ghoul while leading an anti-ghoul organization, and his ghoul investigators were probably seen as nothing more than pawns to him, as well as a source of food since the Washuus consume dead investigators." Rize had learned many things from those she encountered on her journey and understood things from her childhood that many would not notice.
