Chapter 136: Chapter 135

Kid Flash was running fearlessly through Gotham's destroyed streets to get to a teenager who was about to be crushed by a big piece of concrete falling from a building.

This was just one more effect of the ongoing battle.

Fortunately, Kid Flash moved so fast that everything seemed slow, almost frozen.

Kid Flash loved this sensation.

Kid Flash reached the teenager, grabbed him, held onto them, and ran in the opposite direction to take them out of the battle zone.

This wasn't the first time he did this. Kid Flash had been running back and forth since he arrived while single-handedly saving half of the civilians.

After safely delivering the person, he quickly ran to another location and stopped in an alley.

After checking to see if he was alone, he leaned against a wall to catch his breath.

"Gasp"

Kid Flash breathed heavily.

Kid Flash was very tired from running so much, and the strange red energy was also making him weary.

Kid Flash then retrieved something from his belt—a cereal bar.

This isn't just any bar.

It was made especially for speedsters and was full of a lot of calories and other things they need to keep going in situations like this.

After eating the bar, Kid Flash felt a bit better.

"Kid, where are you?"

Robin asked through the communicator.

"Coming back now!"

Robin shouted.

Kid Flash took his position and sped off again.

He first scanned the areas around where they were fighting vampires, then began to expand his search.

It didn't take long for him to find another situation across the street that needed his attention.

A child came out of a building crying in a little red dress that was stained with blood.

A vampire behind her was only a few inches away and had its teeth on her head, which was too close to be safe.

Both of them were frozen in time.

Kid Flash made every effort to reach them despite the danger.

The problem was that even though time seemed to be standing still, the claws were almost touching.

However, Kid Flash didn't give up.

He ran through flaming cars and jumped over them to avoid the corpses and their blood.

The only thing he couldn't afford now was to slip.

"BOOOM!"

A newly burned car exploded to his left. The fires were fast, but it was not the first time today that it had happened.

Kid ran under them before they got in his way.

After some time, the claws were already touching the child's clothes as he stood up.

"NOOOO!"

Kid Flash screamed while running forward with all he had knowing there was nothing more he could do.

Kid felt almost hopeless as he saw a red blur with yellow lightning go to his left.

The red suit covered the entire distance in a fraction of a second while stopping in front of the vampire and giving him a simple shove with an open palm.

The man in the red suit ran the whole distance in a split second.

He stopped in front of the vampire and gave him a simple push with his open palm.

He was fast enough to send the vampire across the block.

Kid Flash stopped running, and time went back to its normal pace.

He bent over and put his hands on his knees.

Then Kid took deep breaths to get his energy back and calm his heart, which felt like it was going to jump out of his mouth.

"Good job, Kid Flash."

A gentle voice spoke near him.

Kid wasn't okay, and being too slow to save someone is a common nightmare for speedsters.

He knew everything would be okay after hearing that familiar voice.

"Flash, you're late."

Kid joked and looked at his mentor holding the child with one hand.

The confused child stopped crying and looked around to digest what happened.

Flash wore a suit similar to Kid's but red with lightning bolt details on the arms, and the belt was with yellow boots.

The mask that only shows his blue eyes and mouth has two bolts turned backward on each side of his two ears.

"You know me, always arriving late for family occasions, meetings, and student rescues."

Flash joked with a wry smile.

"Where's mommy?"

The frightened child asked.

"Wait here a bit, Kid. I'll try to find her family.

Flash said, then ran off and left only the visible trail of the energy he released.

It's impossible for Kid to match his mentor's speed. The proof of that was that he didn't even release energy while running.

"I'm back. I found the child's parents and took them out of this mess."

The Flash said that and returned to where he was just seconds ago. It must have taken him a while to locate the girl's parents.

The good news made Kid feel better, so he ate another protein bar in front of The Flash.

"Who else from the League came?"

Kid Flash asks while eating.

"Just me and Green Lantern. The others are busy or off-world."

Kid finished eating.

"Can you still run?"

"Yes, but not as fast."

Kid truthfully confesses.

"Even so, we have to work together. You find them and let me know, and I'll get them out. What do you think?"

Flash proposed.

"The same way we did in that forest fire a year ago?"

Kid Flash asked.

"Exactly, let's go!"

Flash confirmed, then ran off.

Time is short, and together, the two speedsters have a lot of people to save from this hell.

...

John Stewart couldn't help but be impressed by what's going on in Gotham from the sky.

He recently left Earth to take care of a problem on another planet in his sector.

When he returned, the first thing he heard about was a vampire attack under the command of a biblical figure.

So he was surprised, but after years of working as a Green Lantern, this feeling didn't last long, and he started to move.

John pointed his ring down; his will is strong, and his imagination too.

A green energy beam began to take on the imagined shape of a wall.

The energy brick-made green wall grew to a height of four meters and then started to spread out to the left and right while quickly sealing the burning part of the city.

He had been told about the red energy that affects this part of the city, so he built his wall a little before it, but with the continuous expansion, it won't be long until the two clash.

So John wanted to finish what he was making before that happened.

The wall was a simple structure compared to what he had created before, but due to its size, John spent a lot to finally seal the whole area.

A few seconds later, the red energy touched the green, and Green Lantern felt his will being drained for the first time in his life.

John continued, and as the structure was an extension of his will, he could see very well where Flash and Kid were approaching.

He opened a passage for them and for the other civilians lucky enough to escape on their own.

The vampires and their leader's red energy were the only things that couldn't get through the green wall.

"This is for Batman, I don't know what you're planning, but it's better to do it quickly. I can't hold up here for much longer."

Green Lantern warned him.

...

"Speedy!"

Aqualad shouted at Speedy.

"I can't hold on for much longer!"

Aqualad yelled again.

Aqualad had both of his weapons spread out in front of him, and his tattoos were glowing.

A large body of water blocked the exit from the subway where a small army of vampires was hiding.

The vampires threw themselves against the water barrier, but they bounced back on it.

There were a lot of people trying to get through the barrier at once, so Aqualad was a little overwhelmed.

He didn't see a wolf jump on his back from where he was standing.

"BANG!"

The shot was accurate while hitting the wolf's head and spreading ashes on Aqualad's back.

"Sorry for the delay. It took me a while to choose my new gear. Gotham has a wide variety.

Speedy said while approaching from the left.

Speedy was holding an M4A1 in one hand and a 12-gauge shotgun in the other.

He had a belt around his waist that was full of different kinds of grenades and bullets.

"Where did you get all of this?"

Aqualad asked and looked at Speedy's new arsenal.

"These beauties? In an empty police station nearby. You have no idea how much weaponry the Gotham police have. It's like they're fighting a war; that's the only explanation for so many weapons."

Aqualad didn't reply. He had to turn his attention once again to the subway entrance.

"Oh, I see the problem. You can open up and leave everything to me."

Speedy said while putting his 12-gauge on his back and taking a black grenade from his chest.

"Ready?"

Speedy asked and removed the pin from the grenade with his mouth.

"Ready for what?"

Aqualad didn't have time to turn around and see what Speedy was doing. He only saw a grenade flying over him and landing near his water.
