Chapter 29: Perfect Teammates

When Kevin arrived at the Quidditch pitch, it wasn't Roger Davis, the captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, who was waiting for him. Instead, it was his recommender: Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon.

This young lady, with her tall and gracefully slender figure, had silvery hair that was casually tied back, and her tight-fitting sports attire accentuated her elegance. Kevin had to admit that even in the flower-filled world of Ravenclaw, she stood out as an exceptionally beautiful girl. Yet, in terms of temperament, she was quite different from most of the Ravenclaw girls Kevin had met. With her broom in hand and a large box at her feet, she exuded an air of grace and readiness.

Truly, she was Geralt's foster daughter, the female Witcher from the original work. Even now, as a wizard, she still carried herself with a hint of that Witcher's allure.

"Hey, Professor Flitwick, Mr. Kevin Green, over here!"

At almost the same time, Cirilla spotted them and waved in their direction.

"It's up to you now, Mr. Green; do your best," encouraged Professor Flitwick, patting Kevin on the shoulder before walking towards the castle.

Kevin took three quick strides and reached Cirilla's side. The girl warmly patted his shoulder and said, "Hi, Mr. Green, we've met before, haven't we?"

Kevin understood that she was referring to the day they first met, when he accidentally exclaimed her name due to his shock. However, Kevin was not embarrassed at all and replied openly, "You're right, Senior Riannon; it was the first time I saw such beautiful grey hair, and that too on such a stunning senior. It took me by surprise."

"Call me Cirilla, or Ciri if you prefer, Mr. Green; that way I can call you Kevin," Cirilla replied, blushing with delight at the straightforward compliment. "By the way, I thought you'd be more muscular."

'That's because I haven't had the chance to cast any strength-enhancing spells,' Kevin thought.

"Of course, Ciri, it's a pleasure to meet you," was his simple greeting, and with that, the distance between them lessened significantly.

Next, Cirilla kicked the edge of a wooden box with finesse, and the box lid popped open, revealing Quidditch equipment inside.

"Mr. Green, do you know about Quidditch?" Cirilla asked. "Not just in the sense of being a regular fan."

"I'm a Muggle-born, Ciri. I only got into magic this summer," Kevin replied with a wry smile. "I know the basics, like the red ball being the quaffle, chasers trying to score goals, and the keeper guarding the hoops..."

Cirilla quickly realised that the boy in front of her was not an ordinary one. Although he claimed to have never encountered Quidditch, he recited the rules of Quidditch like an expert, including the basic rules, the purpose of each ball, the responsibilities of each position, the dimensions of the pitch, and even some basic tactics. He had learned all of this from the books he had in his database (refers to books he has memorised using [Scholar's Touch]).

"I learned all this from the books in the library," Kevin added as an afterthought.

"I've heard that Ravenclaw has a genius this year, but I didn't realise it until now. You truly live up to your reputation," Cirilla exclaimed. "It seems you don't need theory classes."

"To be honest, most of the Ravenclaw players don't know as much about Quidditch as you do," Kevin said.

"Then let's get straight to the practical test. Professor Flitwick said he would personally buy you a new broom, but until then, you can use mine." With that, she handed her broom to Kevin and winked. "It's the Seven Stars Broom. Professor Flitwick gave it to me when I joined the team. Take good care of it."

Kevin immediately picked up on the hidden message. Professor Flitwick was willing to buy him a broom, which wasn't the norm. Most of the team members bought their own brooms. Kevin had likely been an orphan at a Muggle institution, without a wizarding family to provide the funds for broom purchases. He had some real Quidditch talent, which made it worth the expense. Harry probably had a similar situation.

Cirilla receiving this gift initially probably indicated that her situation when she arrived at Hogwarts was similar to Kevin's. This further suggested that, just like him, she was an outsider in the world of Harry Potter.

Kevin nodded, turned around, and, under Cirilla's curious gaze, waved his wand. Then he mounted the broom, having already cast a series of spells: [Bull's Strength], [Bear's Resilience], and [Cat's Grace]. Following this, Cirilla released a shiny golden snitch, which had been struggling inside the box all along.

As soon as the snitch gained its freedom, it swiftly hurtled towards Kevin's face. Without hesitation, he reached into the box and grabbed a Beater's bat, swinging it with force.

Under the blessing of [Bull's Strength], Kevin's strength, initially at 7, was increased to 12, surpassing that of an adult. The Snitch was instantly knocked away, whizzing towards the goalposts, then accurately passing through the hoops, as if it weren't a heavy Snitch but a nimble Quaffle.

"Nice job, Kevin. You're even stronger than I imagined. I underestimated you." Cirilla began to say but was interrupted when the determined Snitch came hurtling down from the sky again, this time aimed at her head.

Cirilla, not one to back down, deftly evaded and caught the Snitch, despite its struggles, forcibly stuffing it back into the box. Her agility was almost on par with Kevin's, who had received the buff, making it clear why she had become a Witcher.

"You have the potential to be a seeker," Cirilla assessed. "But let's see how you perform in other positions."

Following this, Cirilla had Kevin fly two laps around the pitch, attempting some challenging aerial manoeuvres, which Kevin executed perfectly. Then came the test for Chasers. Cirilla asked Kevin to cooperate with her in a series of complex passing and tactical actions, such as reverse passes and the Porskoff Ploy, which required teamwork rather than just physical fitness. Kevin's Legilimency abilities came into play at this point. Although he hadn't mastered [Legilimens], he could already read some simple emotions. He could understand when Cirilla was about to pass the quaffle or when it was inconvenient to receive a pass, making their coordination impeccable.

On the Quidditch field, when Cirilla once again saw that the boy caught her pass without even looking, she felt a subtle sensation inside:

This boy not only had outstanding reflexes, sharp observation skills, and agility, but, on the first try, he could sync up perfectly with her. Perhaps he was the teammate that fate had bestowed upon her. They were meant to play Quidditch together.

After they finished this part of the test, Cirilla was so excited that she grabbed Kevin's hand. "Come on, Kevin, be a chaser with me!"

"With your talent, you'd do well in any position, but I think you're best suited to be a chaser. With you on our team, this year's Quidditch Cup belongs to Ravenclaw!" She added, almost as if to reassure herself.

It seemed like she didn't want to risk any misunderstandings and said, "Besides you, we've also recruited a very talented player this year, and Roger has his eye on her for the Seeker position because she's... really cute?" She used this as an excuse to offer the coveted Seeker position to Roger.

However, Kevin believed that if Cirilla made up her mind about something, even the captain, Roger Davis, would have to comply. After all, she was "Cirilla the Lioness."

Kevin wasn't surprised by Cirilla's reaction, or rather, he had planned for it. With his Legilimency abilities, he could create a rapport with just about anyone, even if they weren't particularly clever. But he would reserve this level of rapport for Cirilla. He understood well that one of life's four irons was "shouldering the gun together." The friendship forged in battle was the strongest. On the Quidditch field, fighting shoulder-to-shoulder had a similar effect. And if comrades had a telepathic-like rapport, the friendship would be even stronger. When his relationship with Cirilla became intimate enough, he could start asking questions about her background.

Moreover, given Cirilla's hidden potential, she was indeed worth befriending.

So, Kevin readily agreed to become the chaser for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. In the following days, Kevin became quite busy. As classes progressed, the regular coursework naturally became more demanding. He spent most of his free time in the library. Besides that, he had to attend Quidditch practise three times a week and a one-on-one tutoring session with Hermione on weekends. Apart from not finding an opportunity to enter the restricted section, he led a very fulfilling life.

Note: "Cirilla the Lioness" is a reference to Cirilla's grandmother, Queen Calanthe, who had the nickname "Lioness of Cintra."
