Profit

"Alright lads, I'm going to be real with you, we went out there and we played shit football. The only time I actually enjoyed watching you play was I the final quarter of the game which was widely, to your credit, due to your unintentionally arranged tactics" The Teesside players all crouched in front of Michael as he addressed all of them.

"Now, even though your half baked tactics ended up working to a better effect, you all still went against my orders. As a result, all of you will have a disciplinary meeting first thing tomorrow morning, including the teenagers. Seeing that they'll need to be early enough for school I really hope that we'll be able to wrap things up by six am"

As soon as Michael finished his statement, the players broke out into a series of low groans and complaints, particularly David and Omari. Unlike the rest of the squad who were done with high school and had the next day free as recovery, David and Omari still had to get to school by eight in the morning. Michael setting six am as the closing time meant that they were going to start latest by four. It also meant that they had to wake up by three am max, also translating to them not getting any form of sleep.

"Fucking hell" Omari muttered under his breath.

After Michael made that announcement, he was talking about some other things, errors that they made in the match and the likes. Omari wasn't paying any attention. He was internally lamenting the fact that he would get no sleep in the night.

"Alright lads, you can leave now" Michael said. "Omari, David, wait behind. The three of us need to have a serious chat"

Omari and David simultaneously glanced at each other, but the confusion reflected in their gazes told either person that they didn't know why they were being called in by Michael.

"Both of you, to my office"

"Alright, I understand that the both of you must be confused as to why I called you in" Michael said, earning faint nods from the two men as a response. "The truth is that the both of you have been playing good football, really good football and the clubs are preparing a new contract offer for the both of you so I suggest you go and get yourselves an agent" Michael sat behind his desk inside of his office David and Omari sat across him with mixed expressions on their faces.

Michael opened his drawer and scrambled around for a little while before drawing out two red business cards advertising a sports agent. "He might not be as famous as Judas Mondes and the rest, but he's pretty good. Then again, you can leave the decision making to your family"

"Thanks" Omari said.

"That's not all though" Michael said. "I'm sure that the both of you know that your performances as of late have not gone under the radars. There are big clubs that are starting to pay attention to the both of you. I'm talking Manchester Red, Catalan FC and the likes. If you two keep playing at the level that you're playing at then I'm sure offers will start coming in next summer" Michael said. He looked at the duo deeply. "Now, for David, that's not a problem, to the club at least. We have a verbal pact for a three year deal once he turns eighteen and there was a forty million pound release clause included in it". Michael focused his gaze on Omari alone.

"Now, you might be a bit of a problem. I'm sure that you're aware that the club didn't exactly sign you with the foresight of you breaking out of the academy this early. In fact, I honestly don't think that they expected it at all. You being this good would've come as a positive surprise if not for the fact that once you're eighteen and your youth contract expires, then what?" Michael said.

As soon as he said those words, Omari understood the rest… Teesside didn't want to lose out on him. If they offered him a contract and he signed it blindly, they were going to cash in on him. On the other hand, if he didn't have a contract, if by any chance big spenders were interested in him, they wouldn't want to pay whatever excessive fee that Teesside would demand, instead they would wait out his youth contract.

So in other words, what Michael was telling Omari was that, the club saw him as an asset, and they wanted to make profit from him.

Knowing that didn't make Omari feel anything. It was completely expected. All in all, the club is like a company to someone. It's only invested in with the hopes that it brings back profit.

"Now, I was instructed by the board not to play you for a few matches so that interest from bigger clubs would cool down and hey they would have enough time to tempt you with a big money contract, but seeing as we don't have any other wingers, and I happen to like you, you'll play. Although I can't guarantee that you'll get lots of minutes" Michael said. "Alright, that's all for now. You two can leave"

Omari muttered some words of thanks and left the office. Right there and then, he had made a decision… he was going to sign a new contract!
