Chapter 4: Chapter 4 — Demon Attack

Suddenly, a muffled thud went off deep in the forest, which was slowly followed by another thud, then another, and another.

[That's the minefield going off…]

The thuds went off progressively faster and faster. An inhuman scream could be heard shortly after each thud, each one symbolizing a victim caught in the deadly anti-personnel mines.

Soon, the enemy came into view. They were a large hoard of demons that came from all sides of the camp. The demons were blood red in colour and looked like twisted and grotesque monsters, yet their bodies looked full of explosive power and deadliness. There was no doubt that a demon could rip apart humans with ease.

Of course, this only applied to melee combat. With the overwhelming firepower of the First Army, the situation was reversed.

The snipers in the towers aimed at the heads of the largest and most threatening demons. 80 heavy machine guns in total and 160 AK-104s were ready to wipe out any enemy. All of the suppressors on the guns had already been replaced with compensators.

[Fire at will!!!]

A thunderous roar instantly emerged from all sides of the base. Flashes of fire shot out the guns as the air was distorted by the power behind each bullet. Dust shaken up by the recoil of each bullet was instantly blown away by the shockwaves.

The air rippled as the bullets tore through the flesh and bodies of the demons. Nothing could stop them. The rifle bullets ripped through their bodies, the heavy machine guns punched holes in them and the anti-material rifles directly evaporated the heads of the demons.

Each soldier was well-trained and co-operated with each other to weave a net of firepower, allowing no enemy to pass through. 40 logistics soldiers constantly ran between the ammunition depot and the frontline, replenishing their ammunition to continue the output of the devastating firepower.

The recoil of the guns made them lurch upwards like wild beasts. Despite the rush of adrenaline, the soldiers remained focused, efficient, and displayed the real potential and superiority of hot weapons over cold weapons.

Konrad felt a wild feeling in his heart as he fired round after round of ammunition. He loved the feeling of shooting guns; the use of a deadly weapon and the feeling of the stock hammering back into his shoulder reminded him of how powerful the bullets roaring downrange really were. At that moment, he felt like he was the king of the world, like he was the main character. As he fired his Kalashnikov, he summoned ammunition behind him for the logistics soldiers to distribute. His vision got narrower as his mind went into overdrive. Nothing else mattered except for right here, right now.

Demons were being killed at an unprecedented rate. None of them managed to even get close to getting through the web of firepower, their bodies simply piled on the ground and were trampled over as they blindly roared and charged towards the encampment. It couldn't even be called a battle; it was a slaughter.

10 minutes passed before the horde was fully wiped out. Over a million bullets had been consumed in the slaughter. The air was thick with the smell of blood and the sour tang of gunpowder. The corpses and wounded demons formed small hills of bodies. Konrad felt disgusted at the scene, but the shock and adrenaline completely suppressed his feelings. He felt his source power and saw that there were no more fluctuations; no more enemies were coming.

[Soldiers, form squads of 7 and clear the battlefield!]

[Yes sir!]

Squads of soldiers emerged from the encampment and started putting a bullet in the head of any demon, whether they be dead or alive. You could never be too sure if they were really dead. While the soldiers had the advantage of firepower, they were ultimately still normal humans. If a demon could close the distance between them, they were screwed. While his soldiers cleaned up the battlefield, Konrad ignored his sore shoulder from all his shooting and focused on his source energy and was delighted to see that he had over 60 million points.

[It seems that each demon gives over 100 points. With this stockpile, I can expand my military hugely!]

Konrad also noticed that the price of a soldier had increased to 1000 points.

[I was expecting the price to adjust. The previous low price must have been like a trial package]

[At this price, I can summon 60,000 soldiers. Of course, I won't do that]

Konrad understood that while numbers were the deciding factor in the era of cold weapons, this did not apply to hot weapons. In modern warfare, wars no longer depend solely on the size of the army, but also on how advanced the weapons were. If there is a generational difference in weapons, an army of one million will not be able to defeat one division... Numbers only apply when the technology of both sides is equal. Of course, this does not apply to asymmetric warfare, but it is hard to do guerrilla tactics when your technology is over a thousand years behind your opponent….

[But now, I can finally form a combined arms military]

Konrad summoned a flight of 10 simple reconnaissance drones for 10,000. 5 soldiers were assigned to pilot them as they set off in all directions, mapping the terrain and forming a map.

[Our current location is unsuitable. We need a safer and more secure base of operations. Alert me when you find a potential location]

[Sir!]

Konrad thought of the military bases of Earth with their high walls, flights of planes, tens of thousands of troops and tank battalions.

While Konrad was thinking of a design, a drone pilot stood up and saluted him.

[Sir, we have found a potential location!]

Konrad looked over at the screen and saw a barren, isolated island.

[Hmm… It could work]

The island was relatively large and had a natural cliff face to protect it. It looked like it would be hard to invade and easy to defend.

As he was thinking, another drone pilot stood up and reported his findings.

[Sir, I think that I have found human civilisation]
