Chapter 3: Fairy
" Well, I took care of the demon, but I was unable to save your people. He had already devoured them all on the site he was summoned from." Satoru explained to the elder.
" I see..." There was a look of sadness on his face. " Forgive me..."
" No, I understand. It's never easy to lose someone, especially those you think of as family. But that's life. Sometimes there is no happy end. But at least rest knowing that you and your people are safe and that they have been avenged." Satoru reached into his robes and handed the book over to the elder.
" This book.... It's!"
" I know. I was surprised myself. I would have tried to destroy it, but I don't think that's possible. At least not in any way I know of. I figured you'd want to try and destroy it yourself." Satoru explained.
" No... No, I think it'd be better to turn this over to the council. They'll want to lock this up, I'm sure." The elder explained. " Thank you, for your help, young man. If you'll allow me a moment, I will collect your reward."
The elder went to stand but was quickly stopped by Satoru.
" Nah, forget about it." Satoru told the man.
" But-"
" Look, give that money to the families of those who were lost. I really don't need it. Now, if there's nothing else, I'll consider this another job done. See ya." Satoru waved goodbye and vanished before the elder could speak another word or phrase.
Though as he stared at the empty space, he smiled very softly over the kindness of one young man.
Already walking on the outskirts of the village, Satoru was lamenting the lack of money from the job.
" Man... I know it was right, but I'm feeling a little let down by the lack of money from this job. But it was the right thing to do. After all, they need it more. I guess I'll just dip into my savings a little, until my next job. Maybe next time, I'll take it a bit easy and relax on the monsters though. Traveling so far from Fairy Tail can be a hassle at times.

And then.

A week later
- Fairy Tail.
Satoru arrived back in the town of Magnolia, and the first place he visited was Fairy Tail. Stepping towards the great big doors, he pushed them open with ease.
" I'm back everyone!"
There was a sudden burst of energy from the other guild members, who all welcomed the man back with open arms.
" Yo, Shira, welcome back man. How did the job go?" Gray asked.
When he first approached him, everything was fine. But....
" Gray, your clothes."
Satoru pointed out to Gray his lack of clothes causing the young man to jump.
" AGAIN?!"
" Hahaha! I'll see ya in a bit when you find your clothes." Satoru said.
He walked past the young Ice wizard as he looked around for his clothes and walked all the way over to the bar, where the young Mirajane was tending.
" Yo, Mira! New Girl! What's up!"
" Oh, hey, welcome back Shira, right?" Lucy was still a bit shy in introducing herself, but she was definitely a lot more relaxed than last they met.
" Yeah, that's me, though my full name is Satoru Shirahama, Shira's still fine though."
" Welcome back, Shira." Mirajane welcomed Satoru back with a great big smile on her face. " How did the job go?"
" Oh, it was-"
" YO SHIRA! FIGHT ME!"
Before Shira could finish or even start explaining Natsu jumped into the air and threw a punch at Shira.
" Natsu! Looks like you got more energy today pal! Go use it..." Shira grabbed Natsu's hand and threw him over his head. " Over there!"
" WAAAAAAAH!"
Natsu let out a surprised shriek before crashing into some of the wooden furniture around the guild.
" HAhahahaha!" Satoru laughed.
" Whoa!" Lucy exclaimed. " I didn't think it was possible for Natsu get thrown like that." Lucy muttered.
" Yeah, Natsu has a tendency to do that. But he never learns." Satoru stated. " Any way, Mira have you seen the master? I have something important to talk to him about." Satoru told the woman.
" I'm sorry, Shira. But I was just telling Lucy, that the Master was out of town for the master's conference." Mirajane explained.
" Ah, that's right, I forgot about that."
" Yep. So, I'll be running the request board until he gets back. I see, then I'll just take my time and relax until he gets back." Satoru stated. He rubbed his head and grabbed a seat at the bar.
" What's wrong?"
" The job... Had some complications." Satoru muttered. " I ran into some trouble."
" Trouble, what kind of trouble?" Lucy asked.
" Oh, nothing you need to-"
Just then, Loke burst into the guild hall with a look of terror on his face, causing everyone to turn and look at him.
" Bad news everyone! Erza's back!" He shouted.
" HUH?!"
Lucy couldn't help but notice how the name itself caused the entire guild to suddenly become tense, especially Natsu and Gray, who were both fighting moments ago.
" Oh! Erza's back, this should be fun." Satoru exclaimed. A great big smile dawned across his face.
" I've heard of her before, but why is everyone suddenly so scared?" Lucy asked.
" Well, Erza is the strongest female wizard in Fairy tail and she's known to be a bit... Overbearing at times." Satoru told the woman.
" What? She couldn't be that bad, right.... Wait a minute, I forgot where I was." Lucy groaned.
It was quiet for a moment, and the hall was tense. However, it didn't take long for the sound of metalic footsteps to echo around the hall.
" That's gotta be her."
" Those sound like her footsteps."
" Even the air's gone completely still."
" Geez from these reactions you'd think she was some kind of demon or something." Lucy muttered. At that moment an image of a giant fire breathing woman with horns appeared in lucy's mind. " I'm so scared!"
The footsteps grew louder and louder until Erza finally walked into the guild, her long red hair flowing behind her, and a giant horn in her hand.
Erza stopped in the middle of the hall and planted her horn right down in the center of it.
" I have returned, where is master Makarov?" Erza asked.
" Welcome back, Erza. The master's at a conference right now." Mirajane told the woman.
" I see."
" Hey, Erza, what's that humongous thing you got there?" Max, the sand wizard asked, curious to why Erza had a giant horn with her.
" It's the horn of a monster I defeated. The villagers were grateful and decorated it for me." Erza told the man. " Is there a problem with that?!" Asked. Her eyes glared daggers right into Max's soul
" NO! NOT AT ALL!" Feeling the pressure, he quickly responded.
" Now listen up!" Erza exclaimed. " While I was on the road I heard a few things, and while Master Makarov might not care, I certainly do." She said. " Cana! You need to start controlling your drinking. Vijeeter take the dancing outside. Wakaba get rid of that filthy habit. Nab, I thought I'd find you just dawdling in front of the request board, just pick a job already. And Macao...."
" Please just say something already!" Macao begged.
" I don't even know where to begin with you. You've caused so much trouble." Erza groaned.
" Hahahaha! Oh, calm down Erza. It's not all that bad." Satoru exclaimed.
" Shira... It's not funny. We're drawing so much attention to ourselves." Erza muttered.
Satoru laughed once more, causing Erza to groan again.
" Wow, she's really tearing into everyone. It's almost like she's taking over." Lucy muttered.
" That's Erza for ya."
" Even if she is kind of bossy, she's still saner than anyone else here. I don't know why everyone's so afraid of her." Lucy spoke.
" Stick around long enough, and you'll find out." Satoru told the girl.
Lucy looked at Shira with confusion written all over her face.
" Are Natsu and gray around?" Erza asked.
Out of nowhere Natsu and Gray both appeared in front of Erza holding each other.
" Hey Erza, we're just hanging out like good buddies do." Gray told the woman.
" Aye!" Natsu exclaimed nervously.
This shocked Lucy.
" Why is Natsu talking like happy?!" She asked.
Though Erza ignored the sudden change of attitude.
" That's great." Erza stated. " I'm pleased to see you two getting along so well, but still, it's natural for even the best of friends to lock horns every now and then."
" I wouldn't call us the best of friends."
" Aye."
" What's gotten into Natsu?" Lucy asked.
" He's scared. " Mira told the girl. " A few years ago, he challenged Erza to a fight, and she beat him up pretty bad."
" That was a stupid thing to do." Lucy stated.
" After that, she found Gray walking around naked and decided to beat him up too." Macao spoke up and said to Lucy.
" And don't forget she beat up Loke for trying to hit on her. He deserved it though." Cana stated.
" Hahaha!" Satoru laughed, remembering all the times Erza beat the others up.
Though his laughter was quickly cut short, by a sudden declaration from Erza.
" Natsu, Gray I need you to do me a favor." Erza stated. " While travelling I heard something that leaves me worried. Normally, I would discuss this with the master before acting, but he's not here and this is a matter of upmost urgency. The two of you are the strongest wizards here and I could really use your help."
There was a pause and then murmuring began around the room. Disbelief filled the air as the wizards of fairy tail couldn't believe Erza was asking for help. Even Satoru found himself speechless for a moment.
" We'll meet at the train station tomorrow morning."

And then
.............
" Wow, I gotta admit I didn't see that one coming." Satoru muttered. He grabbed his bear and took a few sips before placing it back down.
" Yeah, no kidding. Erza asking Natsu and Gray for help? I never thought I'd see the day." Cana replied.
" But then again, they did grow up together. So, I guess it makes sense." Macao spoke up.
" Hey, we all grew up together. Or did you forget, I was there when they all joined the guild in the first place." Satoru exclaimed.
" Yeah, but you always hung around with Laxus, that jerk." Wakaba spoke up.
Satoru's smile faded as he stared down at his drink.
Macao, Wakaba, Cana, and Satoru were often seen drinking together. So, it wasn't strange for them to speak about their issues together.
" Speaking of Laxus, has anyone else seen the guy? He hasn't been around in a long time." Macao wondered.
" I haven't seen him. Not since...." Satoru grew quiet.
" Hey, sorry man, didn't mean to bring up sore memories." Macao stated.
" Nah, it's fine." Satoru groaned. " Though, perhaps it's a good thing he hasn't been around. There's already a lot going on, having him around would just complicate things." Satoru muttered.
" Hey, we're supposed to be drinking for fun, not thinking about bad memories, come on guys." Cana exclaimed.
" Eh, you might be right." Satoru spoke up. " Hey, here's a question, does anyone know the new girl's name? I haven't had the chance to ask her yet."
" Her name's Lucy, apparently, she's a celestial wizard." Macao told the man. " She went with Natsu to help me out on Mt. Hokabe."
" Did she now? Hey, I haven't seen a celestial wizard in a long time, not since that one lady... What was her name..." Satoru wondered. " You guys know, that one girl who was featured in wizard weekly. Damn what was her name. She had blonde hair too, now that I think about it."
" Hey, I think I know who you're talking about. I might still have that magazine, that is if my wife hasn't thrown them away."
" How are things with your wife, man?" Macao asked.
" Oh man don't get me started." Wakaba groaned.
" At least you have a wife, man I've been down on my luck lately." Macao told the man.
" You're one to talk. I haven't met a good man in a while. I could really use one right about now." Cana said, before continuing to drown in her barrel of beer.
" Hey, if you're looking for a fun time, I'd be glad to take ya out Cana, how bout it huh?" Satoru slid closer to Cana and started nudging her with arm.
" Ha nice try, Shira. But you're not tricking me that easily."
" Oh, come on?! Man, no faith." Shira dropped his head onto the table and groaned, from being rejected so playfully.
" Man, I don't even know if that was a rejection at all." Wakaba muttered to Macao.
" Yeah, but it sure feels like it."
" No kidding."
" Hey, what are you doing tomorrow, Shira?" Macao asked.
" Who me? Oh, I've got training tomorrow." Satoru told the man.
" Really? More?" Macao asked the man.
" Dude, do you ever just relax?" Wakaba asked.
" Not really. I've got to keep up the intensity if I want to keep up with the others. Speaking of which, I should probably get going. It's getting late and I want to get up early tomorrow. I'll see you guys later." Satoru stated.
" Yeah, I should get going too. The Wife's gonna kill me for being gone so long." Wakaba groaned.
" Ohhh, but I don't wanna leave yet." Cana groaned. She dropped her barrel sadly and laid her head on the table.
" Finally, drunk are ya? Well, that's what happens when you drink all day long." Macao told the woman.
" Hahahaha! I swear, you never learn. Come on, drunky, let's go." Satoru reached down and grabbed one of Cana's arms, lifting her up off the table and wrapping it around his body. " I gotcha ya."
" You gonna be alright, carrying her back to the female dorms?" Macao asked the man.
" Yeah, Fairy Hills isn't that far of a walk. See you guys." Satoru said to the two men.
" Yeah, see ya man."
" Stay safe."
Macao and Wakaba said their peace before watching as Satoru left with Cana slumped over his shoulders.
The moon was shining bright tonight, and the soft wind brushed past their faces. It was quite a beautiful night indeed.
" Oh..."
" Don't worry, I got ya." Satoru told the woman.
Cana was struggling to stand up at this point, having drunken her fill, the booze hit her all at once.
" Ya gotta learn to keep the drinking to a limit, Cana. At least a little."
" But it's shoo good."
" Yeah, but it don't it ain't so good comin up is it?"
" Nuuuu."
" HAhahaha! Don't worry, we're almost there."
" Mphhh!" Cana suddenly had suddenly felt the urge to throw up and started kneeling over.
" Uh oh, not on the robes. Not on my robes!"
" Blaaargh!"
" NOOOOOOOOO!

Fairy Hills- the official dorm hall of the female wizards.
" Here we go." Satoru muttered.
" ughhhhh, my room's a mess." Cana muttered.
" That's an understatement. There are bottles everywhere, hahaha!" Satoru laughed as he walked through the trash filled room. Bottles of booze were placed everywhere. " Here, let's get you into bed." Satoru carefully laid Cana down on her bed and pulled the blanket over her body. He then walked into the kitchen and grabbed a rag, wetting it with cold water. He then brought the rag back and placed it on Cana's forehead as she trembled under the cover. " What a mess." Satoru remarked.
" I guess I can spare a little time. But this is the first time, I've seen it this bad." Satoru grumbled.
Satoru walked into Cana's kitchen and grabbed a few trash bags. Opening them up, Satoru started cramming bottles into the bags. It took him quite a while, but eventually he did manage to see the floor again.
" After cleaning up Satoru had more thing to do before taking his leave.
" That'll do it. At least now, she won't kill herself when she tries to get out of bed." Satoru mumbled.
He took a look at his work and felt quite proud of it. Then just as he was getting to leave, he took one more look at the woman, sleeping in the bed.
" Hmph, good night, Cana. Sweet dreams."
And with those last words, Satoru quickly departed from the female dorms.
