According to the prediction from the Visceral Divination spell, Punk came near a wooden house that was half-smashed by a boulder. This place was in the eastern part of the city. Since the main battle was happening in the south, the area around here was pretty calm. Other than a few homeless refugees occasionally crying out, there weren't any other noises.
Punk stood on a small piece of broken granite, and there were some dried bloodstains on the ground near his feet. Even though this area wasn't very close to the main battle zone, it wasn't entirely safe due to the constant shaking and the occasional falling rocks caused by the battle between the two high-ranking warriors.
Based on the clues he got from the divination, Punk had a good chance of finding a way to escape in this place. He wasn't entirely sure why escaping had become so challenging that he needed to wait for an opportunity. Nevertheless, he chose to believe in the "Visceral Divination" prediction.
Although he always sensed a weird and extremely terrifying aura while casting this spell, he had to admit that it was indeed very useful, even when it was just an apprentice-level spell, especially so, after he released it with the help of his trainee-level soul.
"It seems that something is going to happen!"
Punk mumbled to himself, attempting to get rid of the odd sensation in his head caused by the "Visceral Divination." With the flow of strong, trainee-level mana, that uncomfortable feeling, which felt like something with slippery tentacles coiled around his head, slowly faded away.
Punk took a deep breath, raised his head slightly and started to watch the battle between the two powerhouses in the sky.
...
Torrents of violent shock waves tore the clouds to pieces. Even with his extremely fast reaction speed, Punk could only see flashes of red and green lights colliding and separating in mid-air.
As the battle was at its climax, the overwhelming surge of energy was so powerful that it even caused significant damage to a large part of the city. The emerald green, corrosive energy effortlessly transformed the sturdy bricks of nearby houses into a sizzling, glowing mist.
Punk took a quick step back and recharged the mana for his mage armor. Even a small piece of an attack with that level of power was something he could bear now. So he had to be overly cautious.
The flames near the city wall began to burn even more fiercely. Since most of the houses in Konola City were constructed from wood, these magical flames were spreading rapidly. Many houses in a wide section of the city had already turned to ash. The fiery blaze, like a rampaging golden dragon, continued to grow stronger. A thick cloud of dark black smoke started to hide the brilliance of Mira and Casa, casting a somber atmosphere over Konola City.
"The city is Breached! The city is Breached!"
An abnormally loud voice that was obviously amplified by magic came from the southern city gate. Now, a lot of noises of fighting and killing were coming from that direction. Punk looked in that direction with disapproval.
"Enemy's plan to disrupt the soldiers' mind?... No! the city gate has really been breached."
Punk's pupils shrank slightly. The level of uselessness of these city guards was beyond his expectation. Even half of the morning hadn't passed yet, and a fortress city like Konola was already breached.
Seeing this situation, Punk became a little hesitant-
"Taking advantage of this chaos, should he flee right now!…or... wait…"
Boom! ! !
When Punk was hesitating, a huge roar came not that far from his, and a humanoid object completely wrapped in vines fell from the sky like a meteorite. The entire eastern street of the city turned into a huge crater, and a huge mushroom cloud composed of dense smoke and dust formed in that location. Like a spider web, some large cracks appeared on the ground of that area, and all objects in that entire area were shattered and turned into flying debris in an instant.
"Damn it!"
Punk's face changed drastically as several huge pieces of debris started to fell from the sky. After quickly casting a spell on himself, Punk began to run from that area by jumping continuously among the several pieces of broken rocks that were still rolling in mid-air. A pale blue light was coming from the soles of his feet as he was jumping and dodging amongst the flying debris.
Finally, Punk left the impact zone and came down to the ground again. Now the first thing that was in his mind was to stay away from the humanoid objects that fell from the sky as far as possible.
Because he could clearly perceive a soul fluctuation that was already stored in the memory of the system. So he had no doubt that the person wrapped in vines was Mage McNeesey!
"This is very troublesome!"
Even though Punk's facial expression remained calm, inside, he was clenching his teeth and grumbling! If McNeesey were to be defeated like this, who would stop Lunka?
"Wait! Commander Lunka!"
Punk quickly scanned the area, searching for Lunka. Now, he could only hope that Lunka wasn't having an easy time either. It would be great if he had been seriously hurt, or even better, if both of them had experienced a "mutual destruction.
Otherwise... He really couldn't think of a way to escape with his life under the chasing and killing of an official-level powerhouse.
Fortunately, things had not reached that level. Punk found Lunka in the occupied part of Konola city.
While Lunka was in better shape compared to McNeesey, he had still paid a heavy price, as seen by the missing arm. Punk also noticed one of Lunka's legs was swollen, and there was something slowly moving up his leg.
Punk suspected it might be a curse spell from McNeesey. With such injuries, it was now impossible for Lunka to lead the attack against Konola.
But Punk's expression remained tense because the situation had taken a tricky turn. Under Lunka's watch, the soldiers and professionals attacking the city wouldn't be able to freely plunder and raid. They'd have to dutifully follow their orders. In other words, the enemy would have to execute every command to the letter, which posed a significant problem for Punk's evacuation plan.
Punk didn't have to think to know what order enemy leader would give. Strictly speaking, the entire defeated Konola city, along with all its inhabitants, were already considered Prince William's spoils, given his victory was now all but certain.
Now, even the choice of completely slaughtering the entire city was not out of the table.
As expected, in less than ten seconds after Lunka took command, a magnificently dressed enemy soldier climbed onto a conspicuous observation tower at the top of the city wall. However, instead of hoisting a flag symbolizing victory, he held up a shiny golden sword and inserted it obliquely into the gap of the city wall.
All the Konola city defence forces and the commoners who were paying attention to the observation tower opened their eyes wide in horror.
On the Pheren Plane, such actions by the occupying forces had only one meaning-slaughter!
In a world such as the Pheren Plane, there was no such thing as humanitarianism, and the ruling class often used the massacre as a means to show their majesty. In this case, perhaps it was to prevent the princess from escaping, or it was Lunka who gave this order to vent his anger. The cruel command to massacre an entire city, a city with nearly with 200,000 people, was given.
And with Lunka watching, there was no doubt that the enemy soldiers would execute this order efficiently and ruthlessly like killing machines.
So now, Punk could be sure that there would be at least one team of professionals guarding each exit. And if someone tries to forcefully breakthrough, they will definitely end up dead!
"Oh! Mr McNeesey, I hope you can help me in some way!"
Although Punk really wanted to stay away from McNeesey and the princess's muddy waters, now he was stipulated by the force of circumstances to help McNeesey.
Given the hints from divination and the missing princess who hadn't appeared at any point during this conflict, Punk suspected that McNeesey had left some kind of escape route. So now, without any other options, he had to join McNeesey's "makeshift raft."
Punk could sense a very faint sign of life at the crash site. Even though it was as delicate as a flickering candle in the wind, Mage McNeesey was still alive.
