Chapter 3: Counting the Force

After we landed they checked the papers of the corvette and after thanking the crew, I followed the security to their station.

The following process was a combination of questioning me, how I ended up here and a lot of paperwork to fill out.

It took so long, I even had to stay overnight, but a nice worker let me take a nap in their lunch room, which had a couch.

Probably the child bonus, but I didn't refused.

On the following day was a medical checkup to see if I had a virus or disease. Why they didn't do it before holding me up for a day and getting in contact with workers here, I couldn't tell.

They had the same logic as on earth.

Well I couldn't say it for the whole world, but at least the US and a good amount of europe had bureaucracy. And I hated it.

The only paperwork I liked was designing robots or spacecraft, which was a hobby and part of my work, at least a small amount.

The medical checkup included the midi-chlorian-count, as on this planet the jedis couldn't see how strong new babies or immigrants were as the force is so strong here. I mean the jedi-council couldn't find a sith in the same capital, because they spread so much light, that the dark point couldn't be seen. But maybe I am a little biased as even though I liked them, how they fought and their motives, I didn't approve of their methods. Whether it is abducting children or mind-raping. They wouldn't even try to balance the Force, but tried to cut out one half. Yoda and Anakin were the ones who saw the problem, but it was already to late at this point.

But back to me. My count couldn't be measured. I didn't know if it was because of the equipment or I didn't came in contact with the force till now, but I wouldn't despair because of it. True, I hoped I could use it, but my favourite about this world were the droids and spaceships.

You would know the lightsabers, but you also couldn't forget R2D2 or the Millenium Falcon. It was my greatest joy back on earth to dream of my own spaceship and companion.

Now that I am here, I could do that but needed a lot of credits without an income to speak.

The staff saw it as if I had a small amount and I was finally done.

The officer responsible for my process sat me down at his desk and told me my options.

"Okay boy, I would like to tell you good news, but the only thing I can do is drop you at an orphanage, but most of them let someone your age work somewhere, so I would recommend working for credits yourself instead.

Do you have something you are good at?"

"I have some knowledge on programming and design."

"Maybe an apprenticeship in a shipyard would be good."

"Really? That would be great!"

"Hold your horses there champ. I just said it was a good idea, but to be honest I don't have connections there, so you need to apply by yourself. Anyways, here are your papers. If you want to get money, you'd need to get going. I would like to give you some money, but at least take something to eat from the canteen. Hate it if you starve after we took a whole day to get you your papers."

"Thanks, sir. Could you tell me where the shipyards are?"

"The republican factory is in the higher district, but you shouldn't be able to work there without prior knowledge. The medium shipyards and small workshops on the other hand are in the commerce district near the dockyards.", he says to me and then looks up to a colleague: "Hey, Dalkeith can you drop the kid near the shipyards." "Sure, no problem.", the sullustan answered.

A few minutes later Daluk drops me off at a shipyard he knows is searching for people. It is a combination of repairshop and building new ships, but on a small scale as most of them were hovercraft for civilians or freighters.

Well I hope I get a job here.

Surviving without money in a foreign place is really hard.
