Chapter 4: 4. The End of Mikael

In the dimly lit room of their temporary hideout in Chicago, Klaus and Elijah sat at an ornate table, maps and ancient texts sprawled out before them. The weight of the impending confrontation with Mikael hung heavily in the air. Both brothers, with centuries of experience and cunning, knew that the battle they were about to face required not only strength but a well-devised plan.

Klaus, known for his impulsive nature, tapped his fingers impatiently on the table, "Enough of these intricate plans, Elijah. Let's face Mikael head-on. I'll stake the bastard before he knows what hit him."

Elijah, always the strategist, regarded Klaus with a calm determination, "As much as I share your eagerness, Niklaus, we cannot afford to underestimate Mikael. He is cunning and experienced. We need a plan, a diversion that will draw him out into the open."

The brothers discussed various tactics, considering Mikael's strengths and weaknesses. Elijah, drawing from his extensive memories and the insights gained from his dual existence, proposed a plan that involved exploiting Mikael's deep-seated hatred for vampires.

"We know Mikael's weakness is his hatred for vampires, particularly our family," Elijah explained. "We use that to our advantage. We orchestrate a situation where he believes he has a chance to eradicate us once and for all."

Klaus raised an intrigued eyebrow, "And how do we make him believe that? The white oak stake alone won't be enough to lure him out."

Elijah leaned in, his piercing gaze meeting Klaus's intense eyes, "We create a scenario where he believes we are at our most vulnerable, a moment of perceived weakness that he cannot resist exploiting. That's when we strike."

The brothers meticulously planned the bait, choosing a location that held sentimental value for Mikael – a place that echoed with memories of his wife, their mother. It was a risky gambit, but one they were willing to take to bring Mikael into the open.

As the plan took shape, Klaus couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. "Elijah, do you trust Marcel completely with New Orleans? He's proven himself, but we both know loyalty can be fickle."

Elijah nodded, understanding Klaus's concerns, "Marcel has his ambitions, but for now, our interests align. I've made certain arrangements to ensure he remains loyal until Mikael is no longer a threat."

Their attention shifted back to the impending confrontation. Elijah detailed the timing, the choreography of the events, and the roles they each would play. Klaus, though still uneasy, found himself compelled by the meticulous strategy laid out by his elder brother.

Days turned into nights as they fine-tuned their plan. Elijah's memories provided insights into Mikael's past battles, allowing them to predict his movements and reactions. Klaus, fueled by a mix of anticipation and anxiety, found solace in the fact that he wasn't facing this alone.

The night arrived, the air thick with tension as Klaus and Elijah positioned themselves at the designated location. The setting sun cast long shadows, adding an eerie atmosphere to the scene. The brothers exchanged a knowing glance, a silent acknowledgment of the dangers they were about to face.

As expected, Mikael emerged from the shadows, his imposing figure silhouetted against the dimming light. His eyes, ablaze with hatred, locked onto Klaus and Elijah. The trap had been set, and Mikael took the bait.

"You think you can outwit me, my sons?" Mikael's voice echoed, carrying a mixture of contempt and amusement. "This is a feeble attempt, and you will pay for your arrogance."

Klaus, unyielding in the face of his father's taunts, stepped forward, "Enough of your theatrics, Mikael. Face us and be done with it."

Elijah, standing beside Klaus, held the white oak stake with a steady hand. The time had come to execute their plan, to end the centuries-long threat that Mikael posed.

But Mikael, always unpredictable, unleashed a force of vampire hunters he had gathered in the shadows. The brothers found themselves surrounded by skilled adversaries, each with a fervent desire to see the end of the Mikaelsons.

A fierce battle ensued, with Klaus and Elijah fighting side by side against the onslaught of vampire hunters. The chaos provided the distraction they needed, allowing Mikael to believe he had the upper hand. Little did he know that the true danger lay in Elijah's unwavering grip on the white oak stake.

As the battle reached its crescendo, Elijah seized the opportune moment. With a swift and calculated move, he lunged at Mikael, aiming for his heart. Klaus, sensing the pivotal moment, rallied his strength and plunged into the fray, creating a diversion that allowed Elijah to strike true.

The white oak stake pierced Mikael's heart, a moment frozen in time as the air crackled with the energy of victory and vindication. Mikael, the once indomitable force, crumbled to the ground, bursting into flames.

Silence settled over the battleground as Klaus and Elijah caught their breath. The vampire hunters, realizing their cause was lost, tried retreating into the shadows but Rebekah who was watching from the sidelines quickly cleaned them up, leaving the two Mikaelson brothers alone in the aftermath of their hard-fought victory.

Klaus, looking at his fallen father, felt a surge of such strong emotions tears started to well in his eyes at the realization that he was free from his father at last. Elijah, turned to Klaus, their eyes meeting in a shared understanding of the weight lifted off their shoulders.

The night, once fraught with tension, now held a sense of closure. It was soon time for all Mikaelsons to be reunited once again not seen since 800 years ago.
