To the Frontline

As Mary left the room, Kaiden remained seated on the edge of the bed, still emotionless, simply staring into space without making any real movements or thoughts, just sitting there.

Eventually, he stood up, the slightly cooler bedsheet hanging from the edge as he leaned on it for support, lowering himself down.

Leaving behind the white room bathed in a yellowish glow, he sighed, asking himself, "Where should I go now?"

Looking around, the surroundings resembled the hospital on Earth, but without the smell of death and elderly people. Medical supplies were nowhere to be seen.

"What was that storm all about?" he pondered.

Reflecting, he realized that the slime had induced hallucinations, but it didn't explain why every weather condition was present or why things felt so familiar yet different.

He sighed again, his hand reaching to the back of his head. But his gaze sharpened as he escaped the corridor and stared into the distance, observing movements to the right and left.

"4 Klomonen, only 2 Preater!"

"Fresh goods, fresh goods! 0.2 Preater each for humstern!"

Shouts and smells filled the air. It was a gigantic market, with voices echoing far and wide. The paths were crowded with people, dressed in various attire. Many wore uniforms, but many did not, ranging from casual to medieval to modern outfits.

Materials ranged from familiar ones like silver and gold to unfamiliar ones with abstract shapes and unclassifiable surfaces and depths. Huge robots walked nearby, causing the surroundings to tremble and stones to jump.

But the most striking feature was a similar portal to the one they used to enter from Earth to Preater, although this one was not nearly as large, extending only a few kilometers wide and several hundred meters high. It was colorful, with swirling movements reminiscent of a tornado trying to suck one in, accompanied by electrical noises.

But the reflection in Kaiden's dry, indifferent eyes did not impress him. Instead, he looked rather apathetic amidst the crowd, searching for his comrades.

"Where have they gone now?"

he asked himself, irritatedly scanning the crowd.

With a monotone voice, he muttered, "I need money..."

Another voice asked him, "What do you need?"

Turning with a twisted posture, he saw a figure with orange-red hair.

"It's all good," Kaiden replied, "I don't need anything."

"Oh, okay," she responded, while Zack tried to hide behind her but was quickly discovered, only saying, "Hi."

The others were there too.

"Now that everyone is finally here, let's move out!"

Ren shouted, making sure everyone could hear him in the loud environment. They walked and walked, with no one feeling hungry or thirsty. Eventually, they were being fed through a tube, which kept them sustained while they walked.

They continued, abrupt loud vibrations audible and tangible, the rushing noise getting closer. Clothes, hair, and bodies were being pulled into the gigantic portal, the gravity emanating from it stronger than on Preater but tolerable, especially for Kaiden and Mary, who had no trouble at all.

Mary was almost yawning as she walked at her normal pace, Kaiden as emotionless as ever, and the others stretching their bodies backward to maintain balance.

 "Your names!"

a stranger shouted in front of the portal, eyeing their uniforms suspiciously.

"From which academy!?"

"We're from Liston Academy, Team 6 from the first year. We're a bit late because we had to deal with a Varium Storm," Ren explained.

The other person, now somewhat understanding, said, "I see. Place your hands here so we can check you in."

Following the instructions, they then entered the portal, literally being pulled into it. As the distance decreased, their clothes and hair were pulled more violently, similar to the gravitational room but sideways instead of downwards.

A certain shiver ran down their spines, and goosebumps appeared. The others were amazed, as the first portal was significantly different. But Kaiden and Mary remained indifferent.

"Does it only seem to me that Kaiden and Mary make a good pair?"

Mark whispered to Ren. Ren had to suppress his laughter, covering his face with his hand.

Also whispering, he slapped him on the back, "How do you come up with that now?"

As Mark tried to finish his sentence, he was interrupted by a woman, around 30 years old, powerful and towering.

"So, you're the missing Team 6 from the first year of Liston Academy, huh? We thought you were already lost or didn't want to do your military service. If you had been a few days longer, we would have had to send a search party. You could have been dead or intentionally fled, but anyway, now you're here."

She continued, leading the six through the stations and camps. Suddenly, she jumped up and sprinted away explosively, leaving behind only her shadow and an image of the ground now marked with cracks and craters.

Four pairs of eyes widened in shock. The landscape resembled an Earth jungle, but one that was very dry. The ground was white and light brown with a hint of red. The yellow sun still shone, but now differently directed and seemingly closer.

The sky was still partly covered by the gigantic sea, and the jungle-like area in the distance had an orange hue. The camp consisted of a simple tent, albeit quite large, resembling a smaller apartment with about 60 square meters of space, protected from the rain.

A stove stood nearby, and a few sleeping bags were lined up, all looking rather drab in shades of gray.

The six entered, their eyes filled with wonder.

Ellys reached for the sleeping bags, exclaiming, "How fluffy!"

with a grin on her lips as she cuddled into them.

Ren went straight to the stove with some cooking utensils, saying, "I think I'll have to cook tonight..."

Some wanted to attend to their tasks, while others simply wanted to get used to their new accommodation.

Suddenly, a beeping sound rang out, and everyone instinctively touched their ears, their eyes looking ahead with a slightly tense expression.

[Team 6 to the frontline, immediate arrival requested]
