Longevity was the stage of heresy mantra which granted seemingly ceaseless energy to the practitioner. The feeling of operating like a machine was somewhat addictive for Bian.
"How long has it been? A day has already passed!"
Bian gritted his teeth in frustration as he navigated the changing scenery, treading carefully so as not to slip at the speed he was running. He had narrow shaves with the environment on multiple occasions, bending beneath branches and flipping over obstacles that stood in his way.
Although he was inexhaustible time was the most precious commodity Bian had, the longer he stayed weak the more insecure he felt. Especially now that he was alone without his friends and was lacking decent beast souls in his arsenal.
'I originally planned to only store super beast souls but, the creatures are too rare for such lucrative thoughts. Anything mutant and above, I'll use empirical will while fighting to gain their beast soul.'
Kaah!
A screech echoed in the distance, the mournful wail of a beast. Bian ran towards the not suspicious sounds, which were growing quiet at an alarming rate. The emanated from a shelter a little bit in the distance.
Said distance was covered in mere minutes as Bian slowed down and walked through a devastated spirit shelter. The scale of the shelter spoke volumes of the owner.
"A shelter this large must be run by a super spirit, but what happened here?"
Several buildings were cut cleanly in half, no blade Bian knew of could make a cut so clean and narrow. Dead creatures littered the ground, life essence abundant like disposable trash.
'Was it a creature that did this? Even a berserk super cannot cause destruction on this scale' The only plausible explanation would be a super creature which was about to evolve.
Said creature were the pinnacle of strength in the sanctuaries, searching for treasures to give them a final push into ascension.
'But why the waste of life essence' Bian saw several bodies of super creatures cleaved neatly in half, a task impossible even for a super berserk weapon.
If he had any armor he would have summoned it, as the shelter got more and more creepy the further inward he travelled. Perfect and symmetrical portions of buildings were missing, destroyed on the ground.
"The cuts are too damn perfect!" Bian cursed, his head moved from side to side observing the destruction, discomfort gnawed at him as he gazed ahead and saw a figure approaching. His heart skipped a beat—how had he not sensed this person's approach?
The figure moved with calm steps, yet Bian sensed something horribly wrong; with each step, the figure seemed to cover more distance than physically possible. Not a spirit, the figure didn't emanate malice, but Bian had never encountered a human with such a terrifying presence.
'Haven't I felt this kind of aura before?'
Instincts screamed for him to flee, yet he suppressed them, meeting the man face to face. He was of the same stature as Bian, lean with well toned muscles. He had pale-white skin with raven black hair and blue eyes as deep as an ocean.
He had an aura of eerie calmness amidst the surrounding devastation, as though nothing in this world could harm him. His electric blue eyes looked down on everything before him, he wore a suit and as if that wasn't weird in the sanctuaries he was actually quite neat.
"Did you see any terrifying beast pass by here" Bian said as the figure approached, a feeling of dread overcame him as he noticed an insignia upon the chest of the man, but he suppressed it. Was an insignia supposed to kill him.
"All the terrifying beasts are dead, you would do well to venture safely" The figure said cryptically before appearing behind Bian, he took normal steps but covered unnatural distances.
'It isn't speed either, I would have seen him no matter how fast. Not to mention there was no disturbance from a burst of speed. Is he teleporting with every step?' That was a scary thought, what kind of evolver would possess such abilities.
Just as Bian was contemplating checking out the spirit hall he heard the figure speak.
"So it's you"
"Wha.."
The image of the lightning rune involuntarily surfaced in Bian's mind. He watched as the figure raised up his arm, tracing a line with his finger from the ground towards him. He did a sidestep and the invisible attack went unabated slicing a building in perfect half behind Bian.
"Who are you!" Bian spat while still trying to comprehend what he just witnessed. That wasn't an attack he had witnessed before or even read about in the super gene.
"I am your executioner!" Executioner Blue answered.
Without warning, he vanished into thin air, reappearing behind Bian. Bian's instincts flared, he spun around just in time to avoid a space slash aimed at his flank, which sliced off his sleeve instead. The air shimmered as the blade of compressed space sliced through the debris and buildings with effortless precision.
Bian retaliated with a swift, powerful punch aimed at Executioner Blue's midsection. The impact should have sent a normal opponent reeling, but Executioner Blue, with a mere flicker of movement, evaded the blow, teleporting to a higher vantage point.
From there, Executioner Blue unleashed a barrage of space slashes, each strike cutting through the air with lethal intent. Bian dodged and weaved, his enhanced reflexes pushing him to the limits as he narrowly avoided being carved apart. He leaped and rolled, the ground trembling beneath his powerful strides.
It was difficult avoiding the barrage largely due to the fact that they were both invisible and concealed, the space around the attacks behaved normally both to normal perception and the dongxuan sutra.
It was the same reason why he couldn't sense his approach. Ironically, the only thing keeping him alive was Executioner's blue killing intent that he used as a guide to avoid the invisible slashes.
'How is it possible for it to deceive the dongxuan sutra. No, I'll think about that later, I need to get him down from there first.'
Bian was a bleeding mess, he couldn't completely dodge the invisible attacks but his injuries were not as bad as they seemed due to the blood-refine sutra.
'I am faster and stronger, I can win.' Bian thought as he unscrupulously released an insane amount of yang energy causing the space around him to fluctuate, if the attacks seemed normal in normal space, how would they react to a disturbed portion of space.
His senses noticed the attack clearly as a 'calm' region appeared in the fluctuating space in the from of a crescent attack. He could sense it, but how about a counter?
He carefully struck the the slash with a blow infused with yin energy which nearly severed his fingers, but he was quick enough to pull them back. Ignoring the blood on his knuckles, he struck another projectile with yang energy which nullified the effects of the slash.
'Rock beats paper!'
Bian launched himself into a relentless offensive. His fists moved like thunder, striking with the force of a meteor. Yang energy was propelled from his fist, countering the attacks from Executioner Blue while extra yang energy was constantly emitted to disturb the space and sense attacks.
It wasn't the most efficient way of dealing with the invisible slash, but it was effective. Able to counter the slashes, and faster than his opponent, Bian threw out more punches faster than Executioner Blue could swing out slashes.
Executioner Blue evaded most blows with teleportation, some came exceptionally close. Yet, with each strike, Executioner Blue countered with precision. With a thoughtful look he summoned a suit of armor, which looked like it was fashioned out of the shell of a turtle, and protected his chest and back immaculately.
He summoned several pieces of armor, covering every aspect of his body save for his joints to allow movement. He looked really funny in the mismatch of armor.
"You really are an abnormal, going toe to toe with me in consumption"
Before Bian could decipher what he meant, the executioner vanished and appeared right in front of him, Bian felt the disturbed space around him calm down which gave away where the executioner was teleporting to, he delivered a devastating blow, but his foe had already appeared behind him.
Narrowly avoiding a slash, Bian responded with a backward kick but Executioner Blue was gone. Dread filled him, as he felt a region of calm, a crescent slash making its way towards his head.
Bian hurriedly bent his only leg standing on the ground, he felt as the slash went above his head and went on to destroy some building behind him.
'It doesn't go all the way through' Bian thought as he noticed the slash dissipate after cutting through the front of the building. Using every muscle in his leg, he leapt away from the spot avoiding another slash.
"You're still alive, quite impressive" Executioner blue said, he summoned a beast soul charm which suffused the air with a blood-red glow.
Blood poured into Bian's eye, which came as a shock to him. He touched the area above his head only to feel a narrow crevice within his skull. The slash had almost reached his brain, ending him for good.
Bian suddenly felt a soothing calm. He didn't need to understand what was going on, who this dude was or why he wanted him dead.
'It's do or die time!' Bian felt his countless injury bleed out, as the red glow from the beast soul charm sped up his blood circulation, with the aid of jadeskin he tried to slow it down but his powerful heart was working against him. He summoned the black-fanged dagger and held it in a reverse grip, his eyes gleaming with dangerous resolve.
"What's this? still up for a fight! Can't you see, that I am UNBEATABLE!!" Executioner blue used all ten fingers to release annihilating space slashes before he teleported above Bian releasing some more.
Bian ran between the buildings avoiding the space slashes as his mind worked in overtime to come up with a strategy, he felt strangely lucid at this moment, every part of him working in overdrive to ensure his survival.
Deep within Bian the three inner cylinders of body, soul and spirit were working overtime, the pistons within them reverberated loudly within the vacuum.
Bian gathered a massive amount of yang energy around his fist, Executioner Blue teleported to the top of a building and looked down at Bian warily.
"He still has so much power, my reserves weren't full from the beginning. Should I.." Executioner Blue stopped those line of thoughts with a chuckle, running wasn't the solution here, he would just have to use his trump cards to ensure he killed the anomaly and thus was granted the reward promised by god.
Death was all but certain with the rate at which he was loosing blood but it was time to end this. After all if he ran back now, the others who had yet to evolve could find Bian before he did and take away his prize. With steeled resolve he watched as Bian brought down his fist, decimating the ground and stirring up dust.
"A smokescreen? fine then, I will walk into your trap!" He said with a scoff as he jumped into the smoke.
