Chapter 100: Ch. 100: Gohan Uses the Kaio-ken

Gohan watched speechlessly as Ginyu easily overpowered his sister's Silver Mode state.

Gohan wasn't stupid. He knew that he had an inferiority complex about Hanna. She'd been stronger... better than him since day one. While he cowered, she stood up to their mom and trained with their dad. The few times during their childhood that she'd broken him out of his endless studying in order to go play outside, all he'd done was learn from her, or chase after her. He'd always been chasing after her.

And then their dad died, and Gohan had been picked up by Piccolo, who'd spent an entire year training him. For Gohan, it'd felt like hell, but he'd known in his heart that his sister would have seen it as a walk in the park.

After his two months alone in the wilderness had come to a close, and he'd begun training for real with Piccolo, he'd learned that Hanna had done some sort of special training up on the Lookout. Somehow, she'd spent an entire year and a half there, yet only a couple days had passed. During that training, somehow she'd grown strong enough that she could easily beat Piccolo, who Gohan hadn't even been able to get a single punch in on at the time. It was hard, seeing how his mentor looked up to his sister like that, but it'd given Gohan a realization.

His sister was a genius. A star in the sky.

So, he'd decided to reach for it. He'd never be stronger than his dad, but if he only became stronger than his sister... Maybe then he'd truly be able to help his friends.

But now, she was being beaten into the ground like a doll. Unable to resist at all.

Then, Ginyu shoved a hand right through her chest. Gohan could feel it. Even before he saw it, he knew that his sister, his role model, was dying.

He stared blankly at the smoke for a moment as it cleared. Then, Ginyu stood up, congratulating Hanna for being a 'real warrior.' or something. Gohan didn't care.

'HE KILLED MY SISTER!' Only one thought ran through Gohan's mind. He snapped like a twig, indescribable power rushing through him. Then, the power reached a bottleneck and stopped, so Gohan did the only thing he could.

...

Staying conscious through sheer force of will, I needed to see what was going to happen next.

"RAAAAHHHH!!!!" Gohan's scream echoed through the heavens as he powered up. The air around him seemed to explode with energy. Then, he slammed into my block, hitting a power level of 45,000. And kept climbing after a moment.

'He's using the Kaio-ken!' I realized with a start. I wanted to scream at him, tell him to knock it off, but the only thing that would come out of my lips was my own blood.

I remembered when Goku tried to teach it to us.

...

"Gohan. You need to follow through. Don't be scared of hurting me, you won't. Even if you do, I'm more than tough enough to walk it off, you know." Goku lectured Gohan as they sparred.

Meanwhile, I was sparring with Raditz. "You're too slow!" Raditz shouted at me, taking advantage of a minute opening I had to kick me into the sky. 'Boom!' The area cratered as he followed after me.

"Whoa!" Barely dodging my body as it flew by him, Krillin was buffeted by shockwaves as Raditz chased after me. Barely noticing the short baldy, Raditz and I began an intense brawl in the sky, while Krillin half-fell to the ground near Goku and Gohan, having lost a bit of control over his flight.

"Man, Goku. Those two are intense, huh?" Krillin called out to his old friend, watching the sky shake with the intensity of my brawl with Raditz.

Goku caught Gohan's fist, ending his own sparring. "Yeah. I'm shocked that she managed to get this strong so fast. In a little while, she might become strong enough to beat Raditz." He agreed, "So what are you doing here, Krillin?"

"Just came by to make sure that you're still alive. You have a bad habit of going AWOL, you know. I also wanted to train with you a bit. See if I can pick up on some of those techniques that you got from King Kai." Krillin said.

"Kaio-ken attack!" They looked up, hearing Raditz yell.

'Boom!' I landed in a crater nearby, almost immediately after Raditz pumped himself up with the Kaio-ken. Mostly unharmed, though, I immediately popped up with a scowl.

"Dad, you're teaching me that. Right now, I wanna learn that. Teach me that move." I told Goku, annoyed. Every time Raditz used that, I'd be immediately beaten down.

"Wait, what?" Goku asked, but I immediately talked over him.

"Teach it to me now. You're teaching it. The Kaio-ken. I'm learning it now." I pressed.

"Wait, why?" Goku was confused, but Krillin backed me up.

"Yeah, that's a great idea. A technique to instantly boost your strength? Sign me up! Teach it to us, Goku."

"Yeah, daddy. Come on, teach us!" Gohan begged as well. Scratching his head, Goku made the decision.

"Alright. But none of you are allowed to use it until Raditz and I tell you. If you use it without full control, it'll kill you, after all." Goku conceded. After that, he taught us the ins and outs of the technique, with Raditz chiming in every once in a while to offer his viewpoints. Before long, we could all three use it. I pretended to have about as much control as Goku and Raditz did over the technique, while Gohan and Krillin could only use it with every bit of their concentration.

"Alright! You guys can all use it. Now it's just practice! Eventually, you'll all be able to instantly double your current strength with it." Goku said, pleased.

"Like you did to fight Vegeta?" I asked.

Goku scratched his head again awkwardly, "Honestly... Neither of us have that much control over the technique yet. When I fought Vegeta, I was upgrading my strength in increments closer to 1.5 than doubling it... Almost blew my body to smithereens doing it, too!" He said awkwardly.

"Dad..." I shook my head.

"Kakarot's right. The technique's hard. As it stands, the only one of you who should ever use it in actual combat is Hanna, here." Raditz added on, "You two would just blow yourselves up if you tried to fight like that."

"Right!" Krillin and Gohan agreed.

Since then, Krillin had made some progress on figuring out how to control the technique, but he still didn't trust himself to not kill himself instinctively.

Gohan on the other hand...
