My Death

  James. POV.

"Lieutenant James? Lieutenant James?" I felt hands on my shoulder shaking me awake. I opened my eyes to see Lieutenant Commander Drake Staring at me. I grunted and reached for my guns.

"Pirate." I said patting the side of my thighs. Thighs! "My guns!" I shot up off the floor crashing in the head of Drake and falling back down again.

"Lieutenant James!" "Lieutenant Commander Drake!" I heard Privates around us shout as we sprawled across the hallway. I groaned.

"Sorry Drake." I rubbed my head, with a soar expression. Drake just glared at me.

"I oughta slug you!" He creeped closer to my face with a raised fist. I only sweated and backed away.

"Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!." I then remembered the situation we were in and looked at the Privates around us. They all had confused expressions on their faces. I pointed at them and Drake looked over sharply then at me then at them then at me then at them before snapping into position.

"Men! We have pirates to hunt! What you are doing lollygagging! Onward!" The men snapped into a salute and then sprinted forward down the hall.

"Drake, I spotted one of the pirates. She stole my guns." Drake just gripped his chin in a thoughtful look.

"That's not good. What was her description?" I rubbed my head and groaned.

"She was pretty. Had something covering her hair, used a blue staff thing that can summon balls of lighting." I looked around and noticed a puddle of water and the fact my clothes were a lot more wet than before. "Apparently water too."

"Definitely not good. The men and I were going to check the infirmary to see if they snuck in with the injured men. Your with me, that's an order. On the double!" He turned sharply and started speed walking.

"Fine." I walked behind him with fire in my eyes. I'll get my revenge! No one steals from the great James!

  Timeskip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"We're here because of pirates. Let us in." Drake and I stared at Dr. Kobato who was blocking the door with full surgical gear on.

"Only medical personal are allowed through these door, there are far too many injured marines here for the both of you to just be butting in.

"Look Kobato, just let us in." I leaned in closer with a smile on my face. She looked unsure. "we're just trying to insure the security of the base. That includes you too." She blushed slightly before shaking her head and slamming the door in my face.

"Smooth." I heard Drake grumble behind me. My face soured and I glared at him.

"My guns are in there." Drake just nodded and grinned.

"Private, give Lieutenant James your sword." A man with a serious expression stepped forward and handed me his cutlas. I nodded in thanks.

"How do you want to work this?" I asked Drake and he scratched his chin.

"Kick the doors in and charge in.

"Probably won't be that simple. If what she says is true, then they are doing surgery in there. To many factors to consider."

"You could enter through the window."

"No way. The window to the infirmary is too far away from the closest window. It'll take me too long." He just smiled.

"Like you said. They're doing surgery in there. Surgery takes time. Enough for you to infiltrate and capture the pirate in there." I scratched the back of my head and yawned.

"Man. You're lucky you outrank me."

"Have fun." He turned and addressed the rest of the men. "I want a squad of men watching this door at all times! No one leaves or enters without my permission!" He turned and looked back at me before nodding. I saluted lightly and walked to the next room. Ten minutes away. This base is ridiculously huge.

  Timeskip Timeskip.

"Climb out the window they said. It will be fun they said. Hey rock-climbing, you should give it a shot. Maybe you'll get good at it they said." I was slowly making my way over to the infirmary's window. Carefully grabbing a slit in the mountain and pressing my foot against a lower part and jumped over to grab a branch hanging out of the mountain. I swung around the stand on it and catch my breath.

"Nice and easy." I had eyes on the window now. "Perfect." Just a hop skip and a jump.

"Come one James. Just a jump, jump jump jump. 3, 2, 1!" I leaped from the branch and grabbed hold of the window sill. Slowly pulling myself up and reaching with my legs for better leverage. "Up! Up! Up!." I pleaded my body. I heard mummering form the other side, footsteps too. Then I saw a pair of arms coming closer to the window. My eyes widened. "Wait!" The window opened and my fingers were pushed off the window sill and I fell. "Is this how I die?" I wondered as I fell backwards above the water. Slowly meeting my demise. The waves were getting closer and I closed my eyes in acceptance. Then a hand grabbed my leg and pulled me into a window. My body slammed against the wall, and I was on the floor groaning.

"You're lucky I was passing by." I looked to the voice to see Raven black hair and purple glasses, the woman had a smug smile and a collected look on her face.

  "You're a Straw-hat. Aren't you." She just chuckled softly.

"What makes you say that? My name is Major Shepard. I'm an Inspector from HQ." I coughed and leaned against the wall, sitting now.

"Sure, and I'm an Admiral in the Marines. HQ wouldn't waste a Devil Fruit on an Inspector." Her smile fell ever so slightly. I raised my hand in a stopping motion.

"Look, I just almost fell to my death, do whatever you want as long as you don't kill anyone, I don't care." I closed my eyes and leaned my head back. A nap sounds good.

"Your demeanor doesn't match the typical Marine." I peaked one eye to see her looking around.

"Tell me about it." She stared at me.

"I'm looking for the library, could you help me find it?" I pointed to the left.

"Go down this hallway, take a left, and then another left, then three doors down you want to go down those steps and then take a right. You'll see a big sign with the word Library on it. Can't miss it." She smiled and walked away waving behind her.

"Thank you, Lieutenant." I closed my eyes ready to nap then opened them again because I was confused on how she knew my rank. Then I remembered I have it embroidered on my shoulder.

"Observant." I closed my eyes again ready to nap.

"My guns!" I shot up and ran to the nearest staircase. "I'll get that orange haired thief!"
