The Chief twitched like he'd just withheld himself from reacting violently to my outburst. He gained another step towards me, this one the most menacing as it landed him right in front of me.
Looking into his eyes that I now realized were too dark to have ever been my dad's, the room closed around us, darkening around the edges so only us two remained in each other's sights.
Despite being afraid, despite my danger indicator blinking a violent red at the sight of the Chief, I didn't break eye contact. I didn't run. I wouldn't appear weaker in front of him. He was the type of person to take advantage of people's weaknesses. Prey on them.
This was a battle between resolve and ideals, and I couldn't allow myself to lose to him.
So close...so close to the end of this first volume and the grand surprise. Hang tight, everyone.
