Chapter 79: Nighttime

[There are worms, maggots, ants, cockroaches, and other tiny creatures here.] Seraphyne looked horrified by the sight of so many at once. But the little girl was calm as if she had lived with them when she was younger. 

The unmanned island was a harsh and unforgiving place, a merciless crucible where these children were thrust into an existence of brutality and despair.

"How many of us can survive?" The child spoke in a lighter tone. 

Seraphyne, now inhabiting the form of a young girl, felt the danger lurking all around her. She had learned early on to stay away from the crowded masses of children, where bullying, maltreatment, and unchecked brutality were the norm. It was a place where the law of survival prevailed, and the weak were trampled upon. 

[It's a miracle. The place I've been to before was snowing, but there's no ice here. The distance must be far between two places, but we arrived at the shortest time.]
