Chapter 61: Daddy Don't Be Mean

Dad urged me to sit up next to him. He had a grim expression on his face which concerned me. I could tell he was debating on whether or not to tell me but in the end he must have made his decision. 

"When Grandma Rosa found out about Vasili and I, it was not smooth sailing."

I raised my eyebrows in surprise, "I thought she loved Pa."

"Later on yes," he frowned, "But initially it was a very different story. They fought and she forbade me from being with him because she felt like he was here for money. Back then I was still partially hung up over an ex-girlfriend and it felt like a slap to the face that she approved of her when it was obvious she had picked me for my money, compared to you Pa who loved me for who I was.
