Chapter 49: Fiery encounter

My mouth fell open in a gasp, and I stumbled backward, nearly falling. Bruce's demeanor didn't seem like a jest, so I had to consider that he was telling the truth.

I let out a nervous laugh, initially finding the idea absurd, but his unyielding seriousness caused me to reevaluate my tone. "You're that beast?" I asked in disbelief, to which he remained silent, his gaze locked onto me, his lips lightly moistened.

Before I could press him further, he changed the topic abruptly. "Let's head to your pack, shall we?" Bruce suggested, walking away from me.

"What? No, come back here!" I cried out and reached for his shoulder. He quickly turned to face me, and I was taken aback to see his eye had a vertical slit and bore a fiery hue, resembling the one from my recurring dreams.
