Chapter 40: Rescuing Jaxon

Zane's POV

Elder Tali, Unatha, and I exchanged uneasy glances, each of us weighing the implications of this revelation. Selene, the Nosferatu, was now awake, and her crimson eyes bore into us with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine.

Her neck was slowly regaining its form, but I held her in place, my hand firm on her shoulder, in case she tried to do anything funny.

"Selene," I repeated her name cautiously, trying to maintain my composure despite the unsettling situation. "Why did you attack her, Selene? What brought you here?"

She didn't answer immediately, her gaze flickering between the three of us as if assessing our intentions. Then, in a voice that was both haunting and seductive, she spoke, "I seek sanctuary."

Elder Tali exchanged a glance with me, and a silent communication passed between us.

It was a bold faced lie.
