'The greatest challenges come unannounced.'

It was a saying that I once heard somewhere yet dismissed, as there was hardly any logic or reason to back it up. 

For something to be a challenge, one had to decide to tackle it in the first place. And by deciding to tackle a problem, one pretty much assumed a challenge would, sooner or later, come. 

How could one come unannounced, then?

That's how I thought back then. But right now?
