Chapter 52: Astrologer and Orator

BOOM!

The silence that came afterwards was almost as deafening as the initial explosion. A stunned expression rested on Both SilverOak and Cluez' faces until finally, the elf managed to let out a nod of approval.

Talen walked away triumphantly under the gaze of his fellow students who…

"Hey that's not fair, that was just a normal attack!"

"If you failed us you have to fail him too!"

"Does this dumb oaf even know what mana control is?!"

Upon first observation, Amari was inclined to agree with them. That was just a normal fist coated with lightning mana. Or was it?

He thought back to the stance Talen took, and to the way the mana circulated through his body. There was no waste! Most people wouldn't be able to manage such, constantly emitting mana through the pores of their bodies.

It wasn't as creative as they had asked for, but it was the closest thing they had seen to perfect mana control from someone in the Body enhancer branch of things.

Cluez looked towards the students with the sternest expression he'd ever one since the class started.

"If you truly have to ask why you were failed, then I don't suppose you should even take the tests again. So either use your brains before talking or just go back to your seats to fail,"

The large group of students cowed into submission, unable to utter any more words in fear of instant retaliation.

"Good, now the next person may come up."

Time passed and multiple failures resounded until it was only Amari who hadn't tested just yet.

"Raion'shalang, late to class and late to get tested. Could it be that you're not confident in your abilities?" Cluez smirked, twirling the staff around in his hands, face absent of the seriousness he'd just displayed not long before.

Amari snapped back into reality with a face of confusion. He'd missed everything that happened after Talen went up to take the test.

He still hadn't figured out what would be creative enough to beat what everyone had already done. His set of skills didn't help matters either.

[Skills: Observation (Lvl 7), Words of Power (Lvl 1), Force Fist (Lvl 1), Rush (Lvl 1), Flash Step (Lvl 1), Star Reading (Lvl 1), Wayfaring (Lvl 1), Star Fist (Lvl 1), Star Energy Absorption (Lvl 1), Dreamwalking (Lvl 1), Shadow Grimoire (Four Skills), Basic Dream Manipulation, Basic Nightmare Manipulation, Basic Night Manipulation, Basic Sword Technique].

Nonetheless, he got up from his sitting position and approached the stage slowly. Doing this wrongly would result in instant failure, especially given how strict and selective the two professors could be at times.

But eventually, by the time he got there, he stopped thinking, stopped caring. There was no point in trying to look for fancy ways to solve a simple situation. He had perfected his mana control, all he needed was an elemental attack, so that was all he did.

"Dark Tendrils!"

It was the same attack he'd used to display Elemental skills in Cluez' class, but there was something different about it now.

Skree~!

Several dozens of shadow tentacles screeched to life, except they were no longer ordinary tendrils. Each tentacle had a smooth-looking exterior with sharp ends that pointed dangerously at the first row of students sitting in front.

The room was covered with a gloomy darkness that seemed to accompany every single tentacle.

And at the same time, a large illusory head hovered above Amari's body. It was inhuman and greatly resembled a kraken from earth mythology.

That single Kraken head embodied all the destruction he wanted to wreak but didn't have the power to. The rage that had been boiling up in his heart but he wasn't able to unleash onto the world.

Destruction.

"What is that…" A small voice said from the crowd but no one seemed to know the answer.

The Kraken just stayed there, until it finally disappeared into nothingness.

"You pass." SilverOak's nonchalant voice finally reached his ears.

"I didn't expect you to have improved so fast, Raion'shalang. All this growth in the span of one week. And you've figured out Nichols' topic so fast. How surprising. How surprising indeed. A deserving pass,"

Amari smiled. Not from Cluez' words but from the small screens that had popped up moments after he dispelled the skill.

[Ding!]

As he stood there, he was filled with a large sense of pride that seemed to bubble up from nowhere.

"I'd like to speak to the both of you after class, please."

It wasn't so much a request as it was a direct order, but at that point he didn't care, he just wanted answers.

A few hours later…

"What do you want, Raion'shalang?" SilverOak asked, tapping the podium in front of him from time to time.

Amari took in a large breath that echoed around through the whole empty lecture room. He hadn't expected both SilverOak and Cluez to stay behind after class to listen to his requests.

"I know you both have the Astrologer and Orator class," he started looking for any visible sign of apprehension from either of them, but they both kept their steady nonchalant expressions, "So, I would like to ask you to please teach me more about the classes."

Barely a second after he'd finished speaking, Cluez laughed a little, rapping his sceptre against the ground slowly.

"What a funny joke that is. Do you hear this little boy, Long ears? It was already a mistake for that old man to give you the spell in the first place. I won't make an even bigger mistake by teaching you more about it.

"Something like Words of Power should be kept in capable hands only. And with how volatile he is?" Cluez gestured towards the boy's blood-red eyes that seemed to boil underneath.

"I mean you see it too don't you, SilverOak? Teaching him more about such a dangerous ability will only spell doom."

"I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk like that while I'm in still here."

"Watch your tone, boy. A single mana-infused word would be all it takes to end you right here and now, and my mana wouldn't even come close to finishing."

Amari paused. Cluez wasn't bluffing. Even if his subsequent reactions were merely an act, he'd made Fuller, a Journeyman mage, shut up using the skill alone.

"Whatever. It's beyond me to waste time on you," Cluez concluded, "Make your decision wisely, Long ears. He's out for revenge. I know you see it. Someone like that is bound only to bring chaos and destruction."

And with that, the clown-like man burst into a cloud of smoke and disappeared from the room.

SilverOak still hadn't said anything, but a moment later, he reached into the air, then grabbed a book, handing it to Amari.

"Read this for now. Come back when you've reached the Acolyte rank, you still lack any knowledge whatsoever to even be remotely teachable."

Soon after, the elf transformed into a burst of starlight, leaving the room rapidly.

Amari was angry. Angry at Cluez' constant disapproval of him he held it all in. There were much better things to do.
