Chapter 66: Ch.66
The following morning everyone headed to the arena where the Governor of the region gave a speech similar to the one the President gave for my tournament. Then he introduced Cynthia's opponent and current champion of the Sinnoh region.
Palmer Borgia, a tall man about 6'2" (188cm) with golden blonde hair. He wore a green trench coat with large golden buttons going down its length. With a white turtle neck, brown pants, and boots. The man's age was starting to show with the crow's feet by his eyes, maybe now close to middle age by this world's standards.
He waved at the crowd, they cheered at his appearance as he had been the raining champion for several decades. Because of his long reign, most people didn't have hope of a new champion taking over. Finally, both headed to their parts of the battlefield with Cynthia bringing out Spiritomb like usual as her first Pokémon.
Palmer tossed out his Pokémon, with a large, bipedal Pokémon covered in shaggy, white fur appearing. It has pale purple eyes with bushy eyebrows and long strands of fur covering its mouth. Two tufts of longer fur grow on both its back and chest. Its hands, feet, and tail are dark green and spiky, similar to the foliage of an evergreen tree. On its back are four green spikes that resemble pinecones. The Pokémon was known as Abomasnow.
The battle began with Spiritomb using Trick Room and Nasty Plot, while Abomasnow used Aurora Veil and Ingrain. Spiritomb then quickly used Substitute before disappearing and preparing a Shadow Ball. Abomasnow released a Blizzard which exploded outward destroying the clone and striking the real Spiritomb too.
Spiritomb cried out in pain as the Blizzard started to sap away their strength. Spiritomb then used Phantom Force to disappear from this dimension. While Abomasnow released a Leaf Storm in the blizzard sending frozen blades of leaves in all directions. If not for disappearing Spiritomb might have just been taken out.
Spiritomb appeared right behind Abomasnow after they released the Leaf Storm. Spiritomb then smashed Abomasnow from behind making them cry out in pain. However, the damage looked superficial since Abomasnow was constantly healing and resistant to most damage from Aurora Veil.
Before Spiritomb could move away, Abomasnow swung backward with his arm using Wood Hammer. Spiritomb was thrown back slamming into the invisible barrier and falling down. Then Abomasnow released another Blizzard just as Spiritomb used their next move too.
Right as the Blizzard struck Spiritomb making them cry out and dissipating showing they were knocked out. Their move struck Abomasnow, which was Pain Spilt. The move transferred most of the damage done to Spiritomb to Abomasnow and healed Spiritomb back to consciousness.
Abomasnow cried out in pain as the move dealt spiritual damage to it. Spiritomb used this moment to use Phantom Force again. Spiritomb then appeared next to Abomasnow and struck them again. Abomasnow almost collapsed but managed to strike Spiritomb again with a Wood Hammer sending Spiritomb crashing back into the invisible wall.
Both Pokémon collapsed on the ground unmoving, showing they knocked each other out. The crowd went wild seeing this, while Palmer looked at Cynthia with more respect. Both sent out their next Pokémon at the same time, with Cynthia sending out Porygon-Z and Palmer sending out Rhyperior.
Rhyperior is a large, brownish-gray Pokémon with two horns: a larger one on its nose, and a smaller one above it. The larger horn is divided into three sections by two thin slanted rings, making the horn resemble a drill. Its hide is partially covered by orange, rocky plates on its head, shoulders, arms, waist, and knees, similar to that of the protector used to evolve it from Rhydon. The hide of Rhyperior's armor has a mysterious substance. It has blade-like protrusions on its elbows and has holes in the palms of its hands which work as cannons or guns. It has three blunt, gray fingers on each hand, two gray toes on each foot, and a club-like tail. Its eyes have red irises with what appears to be two thick, rectangular rocks above each one, resembling heavy eyebrows.
Porygon-Z immediately used Magnet Rise making them immune to Ground Type moves and Agility. With Rhyperior using Iron Defense and Sword Dance. Porygon-Z then used Sunny Day, as Rhyperior charged Porygon-Z with a Fighting Type move ready.
Porygon-Z then quickly ran away while charging up a Solar Beam, right as Porygon-Z stopped to release the move. Rhyperior dropped his move and used Protect which shielded them from Solar Beam as it crashed into the invisible barrier.
As soon as the Solar Beam stopped, Rhyperior released a Focus Blast toward Porygon-Z. Porygon-Z quickly moved out of the way and had to keep moving as Rhyperior continued to chase down Porygon-Z.
Porygon-Z then charged up Blizzard releasing it, Rhyperior sent another Focus Blast right as Porygon-Z stopped to use Blizzard. Both moves struck the other Pokémon and both cried out in pain. Rhyperior though quickly pushed through the pain charging once again at Porygon-Z.
Porygon-Z quickly began to move again releasing another Solar Beam, however, this time Rhyperior used Dig to disappear. Porygon-Z then continued to move around the arena to avoid being caught. Rhyperior from the ground and swung at Porygon-Z just missing them.
Porygon-Z then released another Solar Beam at Rhyperior who couldn't dodge or use Protect in time. Rhyperior cried out as the move struck him pushing back into the hole he came out of. Porygon-Z now looked slightly drained from using several high-powered moves.
However, Rhyperior looked just as bad from the damage they sustained. Rhyperior then charged Porygon-Z once again. Porygon-Z quickly started to move away but was quickly running out of stamina. Porygon-Z then turned to look back at Rhyperior using Lock On, that way the next move was guaranteed to hit.
Though this lets Rhyperior close the distance and strike Porygon-Z with a Hammer Arm sending Porygon-Z crashing into the invisible barrier. Porygon-Z slowly got up but its one limb was hanging limp appearing broken.
Rhyperior was already charging Porygon-Z again as soon as it was sent flying giving Porygon-Z no rest. Right as Rhyperior reached Porygon-Z, Porygon-Z released a point-blank Solar Beam. This sent Rhyperior flying back and crashing on the ground rolling a few feet before stopping.
Rhyperior lay on the ground unmoving showing Porygon-Z won the battle, however, Cynthia withdrew Porygon-Z as they used most of their energy up. The two then sent out their next Pokémon once again. With Cynthia sending out Lucario, as Palmer sent out Electivire.
Electivire is a large, humanoid Pokémon covered in yellow fur with black stripes. It appears to lack a neck and has red eyes, a black spot on its forehead, and a pair of antennae with bulbous tips. A pattern on Electivire's back resembles an electric outlet. The fur on its cheeks and shoulders is spiky and ruffled. It has two black tails with red rounded ends, resembling open electrical wires. Electivire has black feet with three, clawed toes, and five black fingers on each of its hands.
Lucario immediately used Calm Mind and Sword Dance, as Electivire used Charge and Reflect. Lucario then charged toward Electivire who began charging up Ground Type move. Just as Lucario was about to reach Electivire, Electivire released Earthquake.
Lucario jumped up just barely dodging the Earthquake and landed behind Electivire. Lucario then landed Force Palm, making Electivire stumble a few feet from the blow while grunting in pain. Ironically it appears that Electivire was now Paralyzed since Electivire was struggling to move.
Lucario then jumped back dodging a Flamethrower sent by Electivire. Lucario then charged up another Fighting Type move, as Electivire was slowly charging up an Electric Type move. Lucario easily finished first and sent an Aura Sphere at Electivire.
Electivire couldn't dodge the move and was struck right in the face as it cried out in pain grabbing its face. Electivire's move was canceled and Lucario used this to close the distance. Lucario appeared and used a Focus Punch which slammed right into Electivire's chest.
Electivire was sent flying back a few dozen feet rolling on the ground before coming to a stop. Electivire was struggling to stand up, but before Lucario could continue his assault, Palmer withdrew Electivire. The crowd was losing their minds, seeing that the reigning Champion was actually being challenged.
Palmer then sent out Magmortar, a large, vaguely humanoid, red-and-yellow-striped Pokémon with an egg-shaped body. It has pink lips on its dark face. It has yellow, tubular arms with a black 'band' on both and three small claws on the black part of each 'hand'. Its legs are small in proportion to its body with pink thighs, red feet, and black shackles around its ankles. It has one large yellow flame on its head, as well as large red flames on its shoulders and tail. Additionally, it has four pink spikes on its back. It has an organ that resembles a magma chamber.
Lucario used Calm Mind and Sword Dance once again spiking his special Special Attack and Defense, along with his normal Attack stat. Magmortar used Leer and Sunny Day. Lucario then charged Magmortar with a Fighting Type move ready.
Magmortar immediately used Heat Wave sending an intense wave of heat in all directions. Lucario raised his arms to block the attack from striking his head but still grunted in pain as burns appeared across the rest of his body and arms.
Lucario then Force Palm which struck Magmortar in the chest making him stumble back. However, this time Magmortar was not Paralyzed and released Flamethrower right in Lucario's face. Lucario cried out in pain as he jumped back his upper body now heavily burned with much of his fur burnt away.
Lucario then used Earthquake, Magmortar took the attack head on grunting in pain but pushed through it. Magmortar then sent out his next move of another Heat Wave which struck an exhausted Lucario. Lucario cried out in pain before falling to the ground unconscious.
Cynthia withdrew Lucario and sent out Milotic, making Palmer and Magmortar grunt in annoyance. Milotic immediately used Rain Dance and Aqua Ring, as Magmortar attacked right away.
Magmortar used Solar Beam right as the Rain Dance took over, the beam struck Milotic who cried out in pain but then used Aqua Ring which started to slowly heal her. Milotic then used Surf which sent a huge wave in Magmortar's direction.
Magmortar used Endure, as the wave crashed down on him, not giving him time to use Protect. As the wave died down, Magmortar was seen standing but just barely standing. Milotic then quickly used Water Pulse as Magmortar was withdrawn right as the move was sent out. The Water Pulse crashed into the ground where Magmortar was previously standing.
Palmer was now looking at Cynthia with an excited look since it had been years since someone challenged him this much. Palmer then sent out his next Pokémon, Toxicroak. The crowd was cheering like crazy seeing this match, one that might actually change who is their champion.
Toxicroak is a dark blue and teal, bipedal Pokémon resembling a poison dart frog. Its head bears a gently upward curling spike which seems to be a part of the skull. Its eyes are bright yellow, sinister, and intimidating, with a small snake-like pupil. Its mouth gives the appearance of a mouthguard, with its red upper lip curling upward at the ends in a very intimidating manner. Underneath its chin is a bulbous red vocal sac. It has three fingers and one large red claw on the back of each hand. These claws on the backs of their hands can channel poison. Its forearms have two black rings encircling them. Its legs are muscular and seem to be adapted for speedy attacks. It has three toes on its feet, with a red middle toe on each foot, and a sharp spike that juts out of its heels. Underneath the pelvic area are two white horizontal lines. Thick black lines run down the sides of its body and surround its limbs, making them seem as if the limbs are detachable. The black lines go up into its face and surround the eyes before meeting in the middle of its snout, just above the upper lip.
