Chapter 47: Fractured Bonds and Hidden Secrets

There were so many sides to Smith Mason, I could not keep up. One minute he knocked me flat on my ass with some insensitive remark and the next he was apologetic and caring. His actions were a mystery and it was like he was from another planet. Why not think in advance, so you don't have to apologize later? I straightened my back and focused on him. "You can't treat me like shit and then pull out your sorry card when it's convenient."

  He paced in short spans inside our temporary hotel suite, running a hand through his silky, dark hair. He wrinkled his nose and blew out a hot breath. "You think this is I may not be the best at controlling my emotions, but my sentiments are every bit as real as yours."

  I tried to avoid an eye-roll, but was unsuccessful. "I didn't say that. You're twisting my words. I'm only saying it's not fair you can act any way you want, then use that one word as if it will reverse the pain."
