Chapter 33: CHAPTER 32 - Secrets Unveiled (1)

Ichiro's frustration grew as he stared at the holographic warning sign hovering above the seemingly innocent meal. His thoughts raced, trying to make sense of the situation.

"Seriously," he muttered again, his voice filled with irritation. He couldn't fathom why his family would go to such lengths to deceive him. It was as if they were trying to kill him, and it was a terrifying thought.

Thanks to the information provided by the system, Ichiro realized that the harmless-looking meal in front of him was anything but safe. He didn't need to inquire further to know that consuming it would have been a deadly mistake.

What infuriated him the most was the fact that he had assured Akihiko and the girls that he would be fine. He had believed that his family wouldn't resort to such extreme measures as murder. Besides, they were well aware that harming him could lead to severe legal consequences, especially with Akihiko willing to support him. They surely weren't foolish enough to challenge someone with Akihiko's influence and connections.

Yet, the evidence before him was undeniable. His family had indeed taken a reckless and dangerous path. Ichiro's mind raced with questions. Why would they do something so drastic? What had pushed them to this point of desperation? He needed answers, and he needed to be more cautious than ever before.

"What's going on?" Ichiro grumbled with annoyance as he tried to make sense of the situation. He had been using Akihiko's name as a shield, a way to let his family and the entire household know that he had a powerful ally supporting him. Yet, despite his efforts, they had still attempted something as audacious as this elaborate ruse.

With a dismissive shake of his head, Ichiro chose to ignore the bento box that had been left for him. Instead, he headed straight for the kitchen. He had gathered the necessary ingredients earlier to prepare his own meal, and he wasn't about to let his family's antics disrupt his routine.

In the kitchen, Ichiro's cooking skills had improved significantly over time. He now had the ability to prepare dishes like a top-class chef. With the herbs he had collected, he could enhance the healing properties of his food, making it more effective.

Using the abundant ginseng he had gathered, Ichiro decided to make a nourishing soup. It would not only provide him with a hearty meal but also function as a potent healing potion. As he tasted a spoonful of the soup, he nodded in satisfaction.

"This should do it," he said to himself, content with the meal he had prepared. He even set aside some for Akihiko, intending to share the delicious and healing dish with his friend later.

As Ichiro hurried to leave for school, he cast a final glance at the untouched bento box left on his porch. He knew his uncle would eventually discover it, so he saw no need to tamper with it. It was better not to take any action that might suggest he rejected their care, rather than letting them know he was aware of the poison they had intended for him.

Ichiro's intuition proved correct, and his family's deception did not escape his notice.

"What do you mean he didn't even touch it?" Hiroshi yelled furiously at the servants and chef who stood before him. "Didn't I instruct you to prepare all his favorite dishes?"

"Well, Master, I wasn't entirely certain if those were the meals..." the chef attempted to explain, but he didn't get a chance to finish his sentence. Hiroshi's anger flared, and he swiftly sent the chef hurtling across the room.

Hiroshi, though physically frail and lacking magical abilities, possessed an aura that amplified his strength. He sent the chef flying with a steady swiftness, his aura enveloping him like a shroud of power. Turning his furious gaze toward the servants, he unleashed his wrath.

"You're all utterly useless!" he thundered, his fury evident as he berated the trembling servants.

"Master, even if we knew his favorite meals, he wouldn't touch them," boldly spoke up another chef.

Hiroshi was curious now. "Why is that?" he inquired.

"Because, it would seem highly suspicious if we suddenly started caring about what he likes," the chef explained.

Hiroshi's aura dissipated, and he realized the servants' reasoning made sense. Acting overly concerned was futile when there was already such a vast divide between them. "Damn it!"

As the servants hurriedly left, taking advantage of Hiroshi's preoccupation, they made their way out without looking back. Outside the office, Ayami was surprised to see the servants gathered there.

"Father, is something wrong?" Ayami asked as she walked in, pointing to the servants who had just exited her father's office. "What was all that about?"

"Ayami, dear, what are you doing here?" Hiroshi redirected his full attention to his daughter, concealing his anger and failure, realizing that he needed to maintain a facade.

"I'm here to inform you that Master has brought the potion to help me strengthen my affinity," Ayami said, reminding her father of the item that came with a significant price.

"Ah, yes, don't worry about that. Inform your Master that I've prepared the payment," Hiroshi stated, skillfully concealing his lies.

Ayami's eyes lit up, and she skipped over to hug her father. "Father, don't worry. Once I become as strong as Brother, I'll bring honor back to our family."

Hiroshi forced a smile. "Yes, yes, you do that." Deep down, he knew that his daughter could never compare to his sister. At her age, his sister had already been on the battlefield, while Ayami remained pampered in the safety of their home. He silently thanked the heavens that his eldest son had some sense and had gone off to war; otherwise, he'd be a laughingstock in the city for having such seemingly useless children.

Once Ayami left to inform her Master of their conversation, Hiroshi collapsed into his chair, exhausted by the weight of his deceit and the looming failure of his plans.

"Damn it, another problem has come." Hiroshi was immersed in his thoughts, grappling with yet another problem. The item Ayami required was not cheap and would cost a significant sum of money. Although they had the funds, Ichiro's sudden change in behavior had made it more challenging for them to gather such a substantial amount again. He knew that he could easily withdraw the money from the bank without question at this point, but he had to be cautious. Every action carried consequences, and he couldn't afford to make a wrong move that might lead to his downfall.

Meanwhile, when Ichiro arrived at school, he was surprised to find Emi standing by the gate. He approached her with a sense of concern. "Emi, did something happen?"

Emi turned to him, her expression serious. "Sona told me that everything is ready. We'll see each other after school."

Ichiro nodded, absorbing the information. It seemed that the situation was progressing, and he couldn't afford to let his guard down. "Thank you, Emi. I'll be there."

With that, Emi entered the school, leaving Ichiro to contemplate the challenges that lay ahead.

"That quick?" Ichiro muttered to himself, taken aback by Emi's sudden departure. He watched as she swiftly made her way into the school building. As he reflected on her actions, he couldn't help but wonder, 'Did she wait by the gate for me just to inform me of that?' After a moment's thought, he chuckled awkwardly and mumbled, "as if. Ha-ha."

Putting the matter aside, Ichiro continued toward the school, knowing that the bell would ring soon. Upon entering his classroom, he noticed that Emi was already seated at her desk. However, the atmosphere in the room felt odd and unsettling. Everyone seemed to be giving him cold and unfriendly looks.

"Please, what now?" Ichiro sighed softly, his patience wearing thin. All he wanted was to finish his last year of school in peace.

"Hey, is it true that he beat Ren-sama?"

"Were you blind or what? It was all Emi. Emi was the one who beat them up."

The whispers and gossip in the classroom had become so loud that Ren, who had heard everything, grew increasingly annoyed. He shot an irritated glare at Ichiro, who was standing by the door, and muttered to himself, "This is all your fault." Ren firmly believed that Ichiro was the primary reason they had lost. The entire class had been so preoccupied with Ichiro that they had completely overlooked Emi, allowing her to gather enough strength to summon another mech-beast.

As the gossip continued to swirl, Ichiro remained stationed by the door, lost in thought. Suddenly, someone tapped him on the shoulder.

"Mr. Takahashi, please step inside the classroom already," a voice urged.

"I'm sorry," Ichiro turned to apologize to his homeroom teacher but was taken aback when he saw the person standing before him. "Senpai Fujimoto?"

Fujimoto greeted him with a wild smile, completely unfazed by the confusion in the eyes of everyone around them. "Yo, aren't you heading in?" he asked, motioning towards the classroom.

"Huh?" Ichiro shook his head, utterly perplexed by the sudden turn of events. He snapped back to his senses and hastily made his way to his seat.

Senpai Fujimoto entered the classroom and stood at the front, scribbling his name on the chalkboard. He then announced in a cheerful tone, "Hello, everyone. I'm your new homeroom teacher."

The collective response from the students was one of shock and disbelief.

"WHAT?"

"SERIOUSLY?"

Ichiro was just as stunned as the rest of the class by this unexpected revelation. It was the end of the school year, and a change in homeroom teacher at this point was highly unusual. As he pondered the reason behind this abrupt shift, his gaze coincidentally met Senpai Fujimoto's. At that moment, Ichiro understood why his former senpai had taken on the role of their homeroom teacher.

"Darn it," Ichiro muttered under his breath, realizing that Senpai Fujimoto had noticed something important, just as he had.
