Chapter 7

"It was already 10:00 in the evening when he came back home.

Sneaking inside the apartment, Edward headed silently towards his room. But just as he twisted the doorknob, the lights suddenly turned on, much to his surprise.

"Well, good guy, what time is it?"

"Um, only 9:58 PM?"

"Only?"

"Uh, hehe, yes?"

"Are you drunk?"

"No, I'm not." Before he could finish his sentence, he was soon blocked by a pair of slippers.

'Oh sh*t, here we go again.' At this time, Edward finally woke up, and all the dizziness was replaced by fear.

No way, Filipino moms are terrible.

Two hours later, he was finally freed from his mom's ideological education (sermon) and once again thanked his father in his heart, knowing his mother, two hours were just an appetizer.

The next day...

It was already seven in the morning when he woke up.

Because he was drunk last night, his parents didn't dare disturb him to do chores but instead left him in the apartment silently.

Ignoring his hangover, Edward got up from his bed and washed his face in the sink.

Afterwards, he cleaned his room and ate breakfast.

At 7:30 in the morning, he took a quick bath, changed his clothes, and started his usual morning run despite his headache.

At 8:30 in the morning, just after he finished his morning run, he was in the Internet Cafe again.

Log in to his YouTube account and look at the statistics of his videos.

The song cover of 'Your Song' already has 55,721 views, 2.3K likes, and 200 comments.

While the cover of 'Jeepney' only has 11,002 views, 78 likes, and 5 comments.

Unlike the former, the statistics for 'Jeepney' were significantly lower on its first day, which is understandable as it's not very popular.

However, he was still satisfied.

The required 4,000 viewing hours were only a few thousand views short of being met.

The next thing he has to do now is send his application form to be able to join the 'Partner Program' of Youtube.

Then after that, he has to wait.

As for how long he has to wait, Edward doesn't know; he can only hope for his application to be approved faster.

After all, AI at this time isn't as mature as it will be in the future, and they still have to operate many things manually.

At 9:40 in the morning, Edward headed back home and took a short nap.

When he woke up, his hangover was basically over, and he felt a lot better.

The next day...

The draft of the third song had been created.

After doing his chores and finishing his morning run, Edward found himself at the same shooting site again.

This time, the song he was going to cover is called 'Stars' by Callalily.

The song covers this time will be different from the previous two.

First of all, the third song will be a split-screen type song cover.

(AN: Split-screen is a modern editing technique that allows multiple shots of split-screen to be projected on the same screen.)

Which means that he had to record the whole song, doing everything, from the vocals, instrumentals, and accompaniments, etc., all the way from the beginning to the end.

Four days later...

Edward was currently in front of BSU (Bulacan State University) together with his friends Jake, Karren, Angela, and others.

Today was the college entrance examination day, and as in the previous time and space, he still chose the same college and university with his friends.

However, this time, he won't take the same major as before.

In the previous time and space, it was because he didn't know what to study, so he chose computers at the suggestion of his parents.

All parents in the country seem to think that computers are popular and that it will be easy to find a job in the future.

Edward was also the same at first, but when he graduated, he realized that it was all a lie.

"Computers are popular, easy to find jobs, and have good development prospects." This sentence was okay more than ten years ago, but now it is not the case at all.

At the end of the last century, the Internet set off a wave of craze around the world, which many people called the "information technology revolution."

This is indeed true.

However, it still contains many exaggerated elements.

In the past twenty years, what industry did the most well-known and influential businessmen in the world come from?

The Internet!

When a person can't find his direction, which industry would he subconsciously want to join?

The Internet!

In the past two decades, the Internet industry has taken advantage of this aspect to attract the vast majority of talents in society.

The concentration of talents has greatly accelerated the development of the Internet industry, and Internet companies have been lauded to the sky, creating a huge industrial bubble.

Most people don't know this because the channel through which people obtain information is the Internet.

How can the Internet say bad things about the Internet?

By 2022, the Internet had completely fallen off the altar; it was no longer the first choice for talent.

In the past, most talents would choose to develop in the Internet industry, but not anymore because it is already difficult to find jobs in the Internet industry.

In 2022, the market value of Internet companies will shrink even more.

In order to cope with it, almost every Internet company is trying every means to lay off employees, and a large number of Internet practitioners are unemployed, which in turn leads to bankruptcy.

Edward was an Internet practitioner in the past, so he has a very clear view of the current situation of the industry.

Knowing the future trend, he was, of course, reluctant to repeat it and instead chose business management as his major.

Time passed...

The entrance exam started at 6:00 in the morning and ended at 3:00 in the afternoon.

The result will be disclosed in two weeks, and the class will start in two months.

On the way back home, his group passed by several street food stalls in a row, and with the agreement of everyone, a round eating spree was started.

At 4:20 in the afternoon, Edward dragged his tired body back into the apartment.

He turned on the TV and spent the rest of his time resting.

At 7:00, after dinner, he told his parents about his decision, and as he expected, he was scolded harshly by his mom again.

"Why don't you understand? Don't you know Angie's son, Marco? He's working for a big company now, and he's earning 29,000 PHP a month!"

"No, you must change your major; I must come to your school; I'll talk to the headmaster myself!"

"What if he's busy? He doesn't have time? It doesn't matter; I'll sue him if he ignores me!"

As he expected, his mom reacted badly upon learning that he did not take computer science as his major.

He doesn't blame her, though; after all, she just wanted the best for him.

Fortunately, his father was more rational. After explaining to him the reasons, such as the overated and hyping of the media, etc., his father finally agreed and supported him. As for his mother, it took him another hour of coaxing to calm her down.

"Hmm, don't cry to me if you regret it in the future!" She snorted and slammed the door to the room, making him sigh in relief.
