Chapter 118: Secretary on Duty

The next day.

Octopus Monster Industry headquarters.

Chairman's office.

Russell sat in his office chair, looking helpless as he stared at Kara standing in front of him.

Kara was now dressed in a grey skirt-style office lady uniform, smiling brightly as she looked at Russell.

In terms of appearance and figure, Kara was indeed an excellent candidate for a secretary.

However, Russell wasn't feeling happy at all right now.

Though he had the notion that "the early bird gets the worm," he had never intended for Kara to become his secretary.

It's not that Kara was unsuitable, but it was because Gwen occasionally visited his office to chat and build a rapport. Russell hadn't appointed himself a secretary before because he didn't want to have a third wheel around.

But now, he didn't just have a third wheel; he had a third wheel with superhuman vision and hearing capabilities.

Last night, when Kara suggested becoming his secretary, Russell's immediate reaction was to explain to Diana that this wasn't his idea at all. His second reaction was to reject the idea.

Diana accepted his explanation because it truly wasn't his idea; it was Diana's arrangement.

Since it was Diana's arrangement, rejecting the option naturally wasn't possible.

So, Kara was now appearing before him as his secretary.

"You can go out for now. If there's something, I'll call you."

Looking at the stylish Kara, Russell rubbed his temples.

"Sure, sir!"

Kara's lovely face lit up with a sunny smile.

After watching Kara leave the office, Russell, the chairman of Octopus Monster Industries, began his day's work. He turned on his computer and started playing "Assasins Creed."

Professional matters were to be handled by professionals.

Currently, what Russell did the most was sign documents and review files.

As for the rest, highly-paid professionals were hired to handle those.

No, wait!

From now on, he might only be left with the job of signing documents. There might not even be a need for him to review files.

As the saying goes, "Secretaries handle tasks when there's work to do, and do nothing when there's not..."

Time passed bit by bit.

Soon, the morning had come to an end.

Lunchtime.

Russell had just intended to put on his battle armor and leave the company to have lunch at a favorite restaurant outside when the office door was pushed open.

Within the company, nobody dared to enter his office without his permission.

However, that was a thing of the past.

Kara, wearing the office lady uniform, walked in with a casual demeanor. She said to him, as he was about to put on his battle armor, "Let's have lunch together!"

Looking at Kara, whose emotional intelligence seemed to fluctuate, Russell sighed helplessly.

He had been contemplating whether to invite Gwen for lunch together, but clearly, he didn't need to consider that anymore.

Up until now, Russell still couldn't understand why Diana had an inexplicable trust in Kara, whom they had just met yesterday.

No!

It wasn't even a matter of trust or distrust anymore.

Diana's attitude toward Kara could almost be described as indulgence.

"What do you want to eat?" Russell asked in an unenthusiastic tone.

"Anything is fine, you decide!"

Kara replied promptly.

"Then let's go to the employee cafeteria!"

Although Octopus Monster Industries couldn't compare to Stark Industries at the moment, the company's employee benefits weren't any worse. In some aspects, they were even better than Stark Industries.

In terms of assets, Octopus Monster Industries was indeed not as strong as Stark Industries.

But due to the much smaller employee count, the compensation and benefits for the employees were comparatively better.

After speaking, Russell took Kara to the employee cafeteria, a place he had never been to.

He was aware that the company had an employee cafeteria, but he had never visited it.

When he and Kara arrived at the cafeteria, he noticed that the employees inside were all looking at him with incredulous eyes.

The chairman of the company having lunch in the employee cafeteria?

However, soon those gazes shifted to Kara.

Kara now looked just like an intern in college, devoid of any workplace aura.

In reality, Kara was indeed an intern now.

Although Russell had arranged Kara the position of a secretary, she had never done any secretarial work before.

If it weren't for the HR department arranging an experienced employee to guide Kara, she probably wouldn't even know the basics of data analysis and file organization.

Ignoring the gazes of the employees, Russell intended to quickly finish lunch and then return to his office to continue playing "Assasins Creed."

However, at this moment, Kara surprised him with a completely unexpected move.

Suddenly, Kara stepped forward, her smile radiant as she linked her arm through his right arm, getting remarkably close to him.

Kara's action not only surprised Russell, but also left the employees in the cafeteria dumbfounded.

Octopus Monster Industries had been established for over three months now. It was like a rising star in the military industry, showing ambition even in the face of the industry giant Stark Industries.

According to common sense, a company chairman like Russell should have at least a few young and attractive secretaries to share his workload.

But up until yesterday, the position of the chairman's secretary had remained vacant.

If it weren't for Russell having a girlfriend who was as beautiful as a Hollywood star, there might have been rumors circulating within the company that the chairman disliked women.

Otherwise, there was no explaining why the position of chairman's secretary had remained vacant.

Ignoring the glances from the company employees, Russell wrinkled his brow.

No!

This couldn't go on like this!

He couldn't keep living like this!

Gently pushing Kara away, he withdrew his arm from her embrace.

"Come to my office!"

With that, Russell led the way towards the direction of the elevator.

A few minutes later, in the chairman's office.

Russell and Kara sat facing each other, their eyes locked in a tense gaze.

After staring each other down like this for a few minutes, Russell finally spoke, "Tell me, what does Diana want you to do?"

Since last night, he had felt that something was off.

Diana arranging for Kara to become his secretary was already strange, and Kara's behavior in the cafeteria only confirmed this suspicion.

He initially thought Diana wanted Kara to keep an eye on him and minimize his fast-food consumption outside.

But now, it seemed that things weren't as simple as he had imagined.

"Nothing, Diana didn't ask me to do anything!"

Kara put on an innocent expression and quickly replied.

"Enough with the act! While Kryptonian physiology granted you incredible superpowers, it didn't grant you impeccable acting skills."

Ignoring Kara's innocent expression, Russell continued to press for answers.
