Chapter 107: Two Worlds

Seeing his doppelgänger, Howard is left dumbfounded, understanding why he's here. He takes a deep breath and gazes out the car window to collect himself, only to notice the peculiarities of this space when he turns back.

"Looks like I'm in the afterlife," Howard mutters wryly.

Though he doesn't recognize them, Howard knows these aren't ordinary folks. They've shared a crucial secret openly, ensuring his silence.

While Max harbors no intention to harm Howard, the inventor can't help but wonder. Max remains silent as they drive, Howard sobering up and observing their surroundings with curiosity.

After a long journey, they finally arrive back in Alaska.

Max heads straight for the farm, relying on his knowledge of the location despite never visiting before. It's also where the materials from New York are to be delivered.

As they materialize in front of the farmhouse, Max gestures for Howard to exit the car. Esme emerges from the farmhouse, assessing the situation with Howard and Raven.

"Seems like things went smoothly," Esme remarks, eyeing Raven. "How's she doing?"

"This is Raven," Max introduces.

Esme observes as Raven morphs into her, taken aback. "Another mutant?" She turns to Max for confirmation.

Max nods.

"Well, this is quite the surprise," Esme admits, not expecting mutants in this world.

"I've secured all the materials. They should be arriving shortly, according to my calculations. How about you?" Max inquires.

"Thankfully, everything went off without a hitch," Esme replies.

"Alright, take a break, grab some food, and wait for the rest of the materials to arrive," Max instructed as he led Raven and Howard into the house.

After a brief tour of the house and a bite to eat to settle Raven and Howard in, Max retreated to a room to meticulously sketch out the blueprint for the brainwave machine. Drawing each component with precision from memory, Max finally took a break once the task was completed.

The next morning, the materials arrived promptly.

Trucks unloaded a plethora of materials and mechanical tools at a nearby warehouse, and they labored tirelessly until noon to organize everything.

"Let's discuss. What do you need me to do?" Howard inquired, surveying the array of materials and tools.

Max handed him the production drawings for the brainwave machine, and Howard examined them with a more serious demeanor. "What's the purpose of this?"

"Can you make it?" Max countered.

"With these detailed drawings, I definitely can," Howard affirmed.

"Then let's get started," Max encouraged, giving Howard a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "I'll release you once it's done. And as a bonus, I'll lend you a hand with something, free of charge."

"You're not going to kill me? I doubt I could keep such a secret," Howard ventured.

Max simply shook his head with a smile, opting not to respond.

Howard shrugged and proceeded to initiate the production of the brainwave machines in the warehouse, with Max lending his assistance. While it may not have been day and night, they dedicated most of their time to the project. With limited manpower—just Howard and Max—it took nearly a week to complete the Cerebro.

"Everything okay?" Max inquired of Esme.

Esme nodded confidently, her concerns about Howard's meticulousness and attention to detail alleviated.

"Then let's give it a try."

Contacting another world through the Cerebro was crucial. If it failed, Max would have no choice but to resort to reopening the portal.

Esme approached, donned the helmet, closed her eyes, and activated the brainwave machine.

After a moment, Esme's eyes opened, excitement evident in her voice. "It worked!"

"How are things on the other side?" Max asked, breathing a sigh of relief.

"They've taken the Cerebro away and relocated to a new safe house, which is still secure," Esme reported.

"Good. For now, let's lay low and reconnect later," Max affirmed, removing his helmet.

"First, we need to erase Howard's memory. I recall he was involved in the Super Warrior Project as a participant and designer. He might know the formula for the Super Warrior Serum, so make sure he writes it down," Max instructed Esme.

"What's your plan?" Howard panicked upon hearing this, but he was helpless against Esme's mental abilities. Esme effortlessly extracted the formula for the Super Warrior Serum from Howard's mind and wiped his memory clean of it, making a slight adjustment to make him believe he had spent the time picking up women, albeit unsuccessfully.

With Howard's identity, Max drove him away from the farm, knowing there was a way back to New York for him. Unless Howard encountered a psychic with abilities stronger than Esme's, his memories were unlikely to return. With Howard's matters taken care of, Max drove back.

Surveying the vast farm, with the brainwave machine safely relocated and Esme and Raven nearby, Max felt a sense of satisfaction.

The relocation had gone smoothly, the brainwave machine successfully connected to another world, and they had obtained the Super Warrior Serum formula and discovered Raven. Max felt optimistic about their prospects in this new world.

"Esme, inquire about the details there, and also inform them of our situation here. Tell them to open the portal in a few days…" Max paused, contemplating. "And bring little mischief here to assist."

"Rogue?" Esme was surprised by this choice. She had expected Max to choose someone like Flash or Sage, or even Lorna. But upon reflection, she understood. The old world was still very perilous, and their skills would be more useful there than here.

"Understood!" Esme nodded, initiating contact with the brainwave machine.
