Chapter 51: Max's Trophy

Jestner turned to face the unexpected speaker, his frown deepening at the sight of a middle-aged man in a suit. The man seemed oddly out of place in the current chaotic surroundings.

"Who are you?" Jestner inquired with a stern expression.

"I'm Roderick Campbell, the Mutant doctor from the Headquarters. You can call me Dr. Campbell. I've brought the trophies that guy is after," Campbell replied with a polite smile.

Jestner was not impressed. "That's not your concern. Just focus on your job, and don't get involved in the rest."

Undeterred, Campbell continued, "Don't you want to know where he's hiding?"

Jestner, surprised, questioned, "Do you have a way?"

Campbell simply smiled without responding.

After a moment of contemplation, Jestner sighed and addressed Campbell, "You better be serious."

"Send a few people over, be cautious, and prioritize safety. Don't provoke him," Jestner instructed, turning to his agents.

Several agents approached Max cautiously as directed by Jestner.

"That's right," Max affirmed, guiding the agents to carry Juggernaut towards John's location.

As Max and the Sentry Secret Service agents approached, John and Iceman looked on in disbelief. The rescued Mutants eyed Max with a hint of admiration. Was that... reverence?

"Why don't you let them release us?" Iceman couldn't help but ask, given the situation.

"Why should they release us?" Max countered, a door suddenly materializing on the wall. "I prefer leaving without seeking anyone's permission!"

Iceman's eyes widened at the revelation.

"Alright, everyone, hurry in and get ready to leave," John commanded, and the group swiftly moved, loading Juggernaut into the car.

With everything set, John drove away into a different space.

.....

In the Temporary Command Room of the SSS, Campbell smiled as he took out an instrument. "Juggernaut's uniform has a specially made tracker. Even if they discard it, it's useless. I also implanted a similar tracker in his body. It's hard to detect even if removed. We just need to follow the signal to find out where he took those Mutants, and you can apprehend them all... huh?"

Campbell's expression shifted abruptly as he stared at the instrument in his hand. His sudden change caught Jestner's attention, and a sense of foreboding settled in.

"What happened?" Jestner demanded.

"The signal is gone. It can't vanish unless it's destroyed, and there's no way they found the tracker so fast," Campbell remarked unexpectedly.

"I knew it would be like this!" Jestner bellowed in frustration.

Campbell chuckled. "Don't worry. His Ability might be blocking the signal. It will surface eventually, and we'll know the location. Isn't he called Sacred Gate? His Ability is fascinating, and I'm increasingly intrigued. If I manage to catch him, I hope he can be handed over to me. We'll go through the proper procedures!"

Jestner sneered. "Let's talk when you actually get him."

On the highway near the battlefield, the SSSp convoy, once robust, now lay crippled in the middle of the road. Lorna, somewhat fatigued and disheveled, sat beside it.

A door materialized in front of her.

Lorna looked up, stood, and entered.

Inside the car, she asked, "How's everything going?"

"It's progressing well. How about you?"

"I'm fine," Lorna replied. She shook her head, relieved. Holding her head on Max's shoulders, she closed her eyes, finding solace in the moment. Lorna, currently, rarely had the opportunity to single-handedly stop an entire convoy.

At the Mutant underground placement center, John disembarked with the Mutants. Max turned to Lorna, who had regained some energy, saying, "I'll head back first. There's a big guy I need to deal with!"

"Sure," Lorna nodded. "Thanks for your help this time!"

"Take a good rest. Don't worry about transferring these people for now. The SSS must be keeping a close eye on them," Max advised before driving home.

Upon arriving home, Max left the car in a different space, opened the door to the laboratory, and called out to Viper.

"Come here, there's something interesting!"

"What's the interesting thing?" Viper approached curiously and saw Max open the truck's door.

"What's this?" Observing the still-unconscious Juggernaut in the truck, Viper looked at Max with suspicion.

"This guy is Juggernaut. He possesses immense strength and incredible defense. He's been brainwashed and controlled by the SSS. See if you can figure out the reason for the brainwashing. Also, I plan to extract his genes and use them to develop a new Ability for myself. And, double-check; there must be a tracker on him," Max explained.
