Chapter 9: Her Alleged Health Condition

"Am I locked in this room?" Olivia questioned, a mixture of uncertainty and bewilderment in her voice.

Olivia hadn't anticipated a reply from the other side of the door. A voice echoed back, "Yes, Miss Jolene."

Olivia's lip curled into a disdainful snort as she strode over to her bed.

Half an hour later, Olivia felt like she had been sitting for what felt like an eternity, uncertainty gnawing at her with every passing minute.

Closing her eyes was a luxury she couldn't afford. Fear gripped her, not just the fear of how to return to Xi Village, but the dread of sleep itself. In this strange existence, she couldn't be sure that closing her eyes wouldn't mean the end of her life.

It might sound insane, but she couldn't shake the feeling that this newfound life could vanish at any moment. This body wasn't hers, and who knew what unpredictable fate awaited her next?

Three sharp knocks interrupted her thoughts, jolting her upright.

'Is it the young man?'

Her concern had little to do with Sebastian's affairs; she needed to know if the old woman was still alive. In this bewildering world, that old woman was the sole beacon of hope, the only one who might shed light on her predicament.

She knew nothing about this world, no one in it, and even with this unfamiliar, unattractive body, she couldn't access the memories necessary to impersonate Miss Jolene.

For now, the only person she recognized was the old woman, who, like her, had undergone some inexplicable transmigration. There was so much she needed to grasp, and feeling utterly clueless and trapped in this feeble body made her feel powerless.

It was a sensation she couldn't fathom, one she'd never get used to.

Just as she reached for the doorknob to escape her confinement, the door swung open before her. Olivia seized the opportunity.

With determination, she swung the door wide, stepping out of her prison.

"Miss Jolene? Miss Jolene! Where are you going?!" The startled maid, who had a hint of a smile earlier, now wore a concerned expression.

Seeing a chance to break free, Olivia waited a moment until the maid was fully inside the room, then made her move.

The maid dropped the heavy book she had been carrying onto the bed and hurriedly followed Olivia, who was already striding through the corridors.

However, the maid came to a halt right in front of Olivia just as she was about to make a turn. "Miss Jolene, please stay inside; it's for your safety."

Olivia glanced at the maid but ignored her, continuing to take determined steps forward.

As the maid blocked her path to prevent her from going any further, Olivia decided to take matters into her own hands and pushed the maid aside with a calculated force.

A small smile graced Olivia's lips.

'Jolene, you're only weak to those you deem strong.'

However, her freedom was short-lived. Olivia's forehead collided with the abdomen of the imposing man she'd seen before. She cleared her throat, scrambling to find words, but when none came, she opted for an alternative—violence.

"Get out of my way!" Her intended strong command came out as a desperate squeak.

'This feeble body!'

"Miss Jolene, you must stay inside. It's for your safety," the maid insisted.

Olivia turned a withering glare on the maid, making no attempt to hide her frustration. "Safety from what? And who are you to speak to me like this?!"

Closing the distance between them, she stopped just short of the maid. The maid, initially unyielding, began to wonder what this seemingly weak and unremarkable woman could do.

The maid didn't understand how an unattractive and unintelligent outsider like Jolene could come to this villa and claim what wasn't rightfully hers.

Miss Jolene, the first daughter of the Yu family and the apparent heir to Yu Business, was known for her lack of intelligence. This had caused resentment among others, even prompting some business partners to threaten to sever ties with Yu Business if Jolene were to inherit.

It wasn't Jolene's appearance but the announcement of her health condition that truly stirred the controversy.

Allison, in an interview, had stated that the decision regarding the heir to Yu Business hadn't been made. This statement had left everyone in anticipation since Mr. Williams Yu, the founder of Yu Business, had been in a coma after an accident.

Currently, Mr. William Yu's younger brother, Mr. Ray Yu represents him. He possessed extensive knowledge of the business, having supported his elder brother for over two decades.

Allison had assured the public not to worry about Jolene's intellectual shortcomings, as no will had been found, and no succession process had been announced.

However, the maid assigned to watch over Jolene would not hesitate to put the young miss in her rightful place should the opportunity arise.

"Miss Jolene, you've caused enough trouble for us in the past six months. I'll tell you one thing—interfere with anything but the Wang Family's affairs. You're endangering the Fifth Young Master's reputation."

The maid continued, "Ever since he took you in, he's been going through a—"

But Olivia didn't let the maid finish her words. Without warning, her hands tightened around the maid's neck, her resolve unwavering, determined to end the maid's life.
