Yan Wenhan arrived for his first day in the afternoon. His high value in Xia Yu's eyes was justified as he displayed a thorough understanding of various matters. Skipping any transition period, he could swiftly take on simple tasks. This immediate adaptability gave Xia Yu a sense of relief. With Yan Wenhan's arrival to share the workload, Xia Yu found himself with more time to manage other matters, particularly his stock trading activities.
Returning to the Kowloon Stock Exchange, Xia Yu aimed straight for the HSBC seat. As expected, Liu Tianci was present on this Friday afternoon.
"Good afternoon, Liu Sheng!" Xia Yu greeted Liu Tianci as he approached.
"Hello, Xia Sheng!" Liu Tianci greeted back with a delighted smile, setting aside his belongings.
"Liu Sheng, thank you for your help. I purchased the car yesterday. I was busy this morning, so I didn't come earlier. I wanted to come over and express my gratitude to you for your assistance!" Xia Yu expressed with a smile.
"Haha, it's nothing. We're friends, after all. It's only natural to help each other," Liu Tianci responded while waving off Xia Yu's gratitude.
Noticing Liu Tianci's slightly perturbed expression, Xia Yu decided not to delve further. He engaged in a conversation with Liu Tianci and then turned the discussion to his funds. "Liu Sheng, I'd like to review my stocks."
"Xia Sheng, you've made yet another profit. Your capital is now at 8 million. That's impressive!" Liu Tianci led Xia Yu to a different area and informed him of his current financial standing.
Xia Yu's eyebrows raised slightly; he hadn't expected his capital to have reached 8 million. Upon reflection, however, it made sense.
Considering the recent expenditures on the house purchase (1 million), car acquisition (220,000), the 60,000 given to Xia Jun and Xia Lei, the 20,000 handed out earlier, and the total of 1.3 million extracted for these purposes, the remaining amount from his initial 7 million was 5.7 million. This left a discrepancy of 2.3 million.
However, Xia Yu had been investing in the stock market over the past few days, reinfusing capital into his portfolio. Besides allocating the company's advertising revenue (800,000) into stocks, he had also received an apology from Liu Godsend which added nearly 400,000 to his account. This totaled 1.2 million. The remaining 1.1 million was the outcome of his recent trading activities. Therefore, 8 million wasn't an unexpected figure.
As it was Friday and the market would be closed for the weekend, Xia Yu decided to spend this time to adjust his funds and regroup for his upcoming trading.
"Liu Sheng, kindly assist me in withdrawing my funds today," Xia Yu requested.
"Sure thing, it's a small matter," Liu Tianci agreed.
With that settled, Xia Yu engaged in a brief conversation with Liu Tianci and then left the Kowloon Stock Exchange, citing company matters.
As the workday came to an end, Xia Yu was about to head home when he noticed Xia Lei had come to the company once again. Curious, Xia Yu approached him.
"Leizi, why are you here? What's going on?" Xia Yu inquired.
"A Yu, we've caught the guy. He's in custody now," Xia Lei looked around cautiously before leaning in to whisper in Xia Yu's ear.
Xia Yu's eyes widened in surprise, soon followed by a joyful smile. He patted Xia Lei on the shoulder and said with delight, "Leizi, you've done it!"
"Hehe!" Xia Lei rubbed his head and chuckled. He hadn't expected to capture the culprit so swiftly. He attributed the efficiency to Xia Yu's reward money. After all, he had only announced the reward last night and already had results today.
"Where is he now? Is there a risk of being discovered by others?" Xia Yu questioned further.
"Don't worry, A Yu. I've moved him to a different location, and my guys are keeping watch. There's no way he'll escape," Xia Lei assured, patting his chest confidently.
"That's good. Relax, go over there right away. It's dinnertime now. My parents are probably waiting for me to have dinner at home. Join us, and we'll visit the location later tonight," Xia Yu suggested. He considered it more practical to wait until dark.
"Okay, I'll follow your lead!"
Afterward, Xia Yu and Xia Lei left the company together.
After enjoying their meal, Xia Yu found an excuse related to company matters to leave once more. He took Xia Lei with him and headed to the location where the captured individual was being held.
As they drove, Xia Yu noticed Xia Lei's anticipation and nodded to signal that he understood. He was aware of the underlying reasons behind Xia Lei's reluctance to introduce him to his subordinates.
Curious as to why Xia Yu wasn't interested in meeting them, Xia Lei obeyed and refrained from pressing the matter. It seemed Xia Yu had his own reasons, and Xia Lei was content to follow his lead.
Upon reaching the remote location, Xia Yu parked the car. They proceeded to an abandoned building where Xia Lei's subordinates were stationed, guarding two restrained and blindfolded individuals.
"Big Brother!" Xia Yu greeted the four guards with a nod as they acknowledged him by bending over and offering respectful greetings.
Satisfied with their vigilance, Xia Yu turned to the two blindfolded figures. Xia Lei's subordinates followed their boss's instructions and untied the blindfolds, causing the captives to wince at the sudden light.
The removal of their blindfolds led to immediate cries of pain as the tape binding their mouths was ripped off.
Xia Yu observed the scene with interest, noting the effect of the sudden change in lighting on the captives.
"What!?"
The captives' initial reactions were a mix of pain and surprise, their pleas for freedom met with fierce resistance from Xia Lei's subordinates. The henchmen kicked and silenced the two, their actions mirroring their frustration.
"I told you not to speak unless spoken to. Understand?" Xia Lei's subordinate warned sternly, shutting down any further protest.
"We understand." The captives' pained cries transformed into obedient responses, yet they continued to gaze at Xia Yu and Xia Lei with imploring eyes. However, the duo remained unmoved by their pleas.
Xia Yu focused on the captives, looking down on them as he addressed them in a commanding tone, "Who ordered you to steal the money?"
"Our boss told us to do it. He already received the money. We don't have it. We were just following orders. Boss, I was wrong. Please, let us go," one of the captives hastily admitted.
Frowning at their responses, Xia Yu shifted his attention to Xia Lei, who confirmed the truth behind the statement. "It's true, A Yu. They were just following orders. The money has already been handed over to their boss. They don't have it with them."
Xia Yu's expression deepened in thought, and he looked back at the captives. "Who is your boss? Which gang do you belong to?"
"Our boss is Scar Strong. We're part of the Black Shark gang."
"Scar Strong?" Xia Lei's brows knitted together. His demeanor turned icy, and he explained to Xia Yu, "The Black Shark gang is an enemy of the Fierce Tiger gang. Scar Strong has a history of conflict with me as well."
Xia Yu nodded in understanding, refraining from further inquiries.
Meanwhile, one of the captives recognized Xia Lei and exclaimed, "Aren't you Thunder Tiger from the Tiger gang?"
"That's me," Xia Lei replied with a cold smile.
As soon as Xia Lei confessed his identity, the two captives turned pale with fear, making desperate pleas.
Observing the scene, Xia Yu realized that the situation was highly volatile. He motioned to Xia Lei, "Leizi, take care of them. They stole my money, so they must pay the price."
"Understood."
With a nod, Xia Lei's subordinates proceeded to restrain the captives further, making it clear that punishment was imminent.
Xia Yu's brows furrowed as he watched the scene unfold. He had to suppress any emotions that arose. After all, this era was characterized by turmoil, where cruelties far worse than this were commonplace.
Drawing upon his memories of certain figures from his past life, Xia Yu was privy to many hidden truths. For the sake of profit, capitalists were capable of any action, even eliminating national leaders. Given these perspectives, the current scene was rather tame.
"Let's go, Leizi. Tomorrow, hand them over to Brother Jun. This incident will spread, and its intended effect will be achieved," Xia Yu said to Xia Lei.
Since the culprits were apprehended and the situation was resolved, there was no need for Xia Yu to stay any longer.
"Okay, I'll take care of it. Thanks for your help tonight. I'll have someone take over for my guys tomorrow," Xia Lei replied, expressing his gratitude.
With mutual thanks exchanged, Xia Yu and Xia Lei left the premises. Xia Lei, mindful of the remote and dark surroundings, decided it was best for him to accompany Xia Yu to a safer location.
Xia Yu appreciated the gesture, and together, they headed toward their destination.
