Chapter 57: CHAPTER 57

After his encounter with Xia Jun and Xia Lei, seeing that he still had some off-duty time away from the company, Xia Yu drove back to the company to attend to its affairs. He had been out and about all day, and he knew there must be things waiting for him to handle personally.

Soon after he settled into his office and took a seat, the head of the editorial department, Zhao Cheng, knocked on the door and walked in. He handed a stack of documents to Xia Yu and said, "Boss, ever since the announcement for the recruitment of a vice president was made, these are the resumes we've received so far. Please take a look."

"Hmm!" Xia Yu nodded and then began to seriously review the resumes.

As he went through them, the disappointment on Xia Yu's face grew more evident, and he couldn't help shaking his head.

The quality of the candidates in these resumes wasn't up to par, lacking the experience of serving in upper management positions at major newspapers. Furthermore, their backgrounds and the types of newspapers they had worked for were quite different from that of Jiuding Daily. In Xia Yu's view, they weren't suitable candidates based on his standards.

Despite his disappointment, Xia Yu continued looking through the resumes, hoping to find a suitable candidate.

However, after reviewing more than a dozen resumes, he still wasn't satisfied. He began to wonder if his standards were perhaps set too high.

Just as he was starting to feel disheartened, Xia Yu came across the last resume. His eyes narrowed as he scrutinized it closely.

The resume belonged to Yan Wenhan, a 30-year-old male. He had studied at Oxford University in the UK, majoring in journalism and finance. After graduation, he worked at the Financial Times for five years. He had served as a journalist, editor, and deputy head of the editorial department. Yan Wenhan had resigned and returned to Hong Kong a month ago for personal reasons.

Seeing this resume, Xia Yu felt a surge of satisfaction. He had already made up his mind to call Yan Wenhan for an interview the next day. If the interview went well, he was considering offering him the position of vice president.

Xia Yu had several reasons for holding Yan Wenhan in such high regard.

Having the memories of the future CEO of Warner, Xia Yu was well-versed in the media industry, knowing about all the major media outlets and newspapers. The CEO was particularly familiar with the British media landscape, including the renowned British Financial Times.

The Financial Times was a globally recognized financial newspaper founded by James Sheridan and his brothers in 1888. The newspaper was published in London, Frankfurt, New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Madrid, Hong Kong, and other cities simultaneously. It had a daily circulation of around 450,000 copies, with 70% distributed in more than 140 countries outside the UK. Known for providing readers with global economic and commercial information, economic analysis, and commentary, the Financial Times was even renowned for its London stock market financial index. It was a leading global financial newspaper with more than 1.6 million readers across its four print editions in the US, the UK, Europe, and Asia. Its primary website boasted as many as 3.9 million online readers every month. The newspaper ranked fifth in terms of global financial newspaper influence.

The British "Financial Times" was under the British Pearson Group's ownership, but it had been acquired by Japan's Nikkei in July 2015 for 844 million pounds.

The fact that Yan Wenhan had secured a position at the "Financial Times" right after graduating and, as a Chinese individual, managed to become the deputy head of the editorial department before the age of 30, showcased his exceptional capabilities.

Apart from his capabilities, Yan Wenhan's past work experience was also remarkably fitting for "Jiuding Daily."

Since "Jiuding Daily" primarily focused on financial news, Xia Yu couldn't dedicate all his time to it. He needed someone familiar with both finance and media to assist him. Yan Wenhan's background in the "Financial Times" was a perfect match. Furthermore, given that "Jiuding Daily" was centered on financial news, Yan Wenhan's expertise was a valuable asset. Having honed his skills for five years at the "Financial Times," he had undoubtedly accumulated a wealth of knowledge. Yan Wenhan's knowledge and skills made him a valuable candidate to lead "Jiuding Daily" with competence and vision.

Additionally, as the "Financial Times" was a global newspaper, Yan Wenhan had likely gained exposure to various processes, contacts, and insider information. If he were to take up the role of vice president, or even president, at "Jiuding Daily," his international experience could significantly contribute to the newspaper's expansion on a global scale.

For all these reasons, Xia Yu had a particularly positive impression of Yan Wenhan.

"I hope tomorrow's interview won't disappoint..." Xia Yu murmured with anticipation as he looked at Yan Wenhan's resume.

Without further ado, Xia Yu decided not to wait any longer. He instructed Zhao Cheng to contact Yan Wenhan and arrange an interview for 10 o'clock the following morning.

After a while of busyness, as work hours ended, Xia Yu headed home.

Upon arriving home, the sight of Xia Yu's luxury car prompted yet another round of astonishment from his family. Xia Yu explained briefly, and without dwelling on it, he ushered his family into the car. He had plans to take them out for dinner and buy them some new clothes.

Spending the evening in the midst of this busy day, Xia Yu took his family shopping for clothes. Opting for a higher-end clothing store, he was willing to pay more for quality and style.

The family was quite satisfied with the clothes they found at the store, but they were taken aback by the prices. Despite their concern, Xia Yu insisted on purchasing the clothes there for his parents. On their way back, Xia Mu Chenmei expressed her distress over the expenses, but her eyes betrayed a hint of pride as she looked at Xia Yu.

Upon returning home, Xia Yu took some time to tidy up his room, arranging everything to his liking. He then brought out his notebook and resumed writing "Xun Qin Ji."

Over the past ten days, with the continuous expansion of the company's staff, Jiuding Daily's scale had grown considerably. This translated to an increased workload for Xia Yu. Additionally, his involvement in stock trading had consumed much of his time and energy. Consequently, he had managed to copy only a manuscript of less than 200,000 words during this time. Combining it with the 480,000-word manuscript he had copied earlier, his progress was still roughly 1 million words short of completing "Xun Qin Ji."

Moreover, despite more than ten days of searching, Xia Yu had yet to find a satisfactory novel to include in the magazine. As a result, only Xia Yu's "Xun Qin Ji" had been published. With its daily 20,000-word release, he knew it wouldn't be long before he faced a shortage of content. Under the pressure of this situation, Xia Yu was increasingly frustrated.

Xia Yu had already made up his mind. Tomorrow, he would instruct Zhao Cheng to edit an essay for high-priced inclusion. He refused to believe that a generous offer wouldn't attract the right author.

Furthermore, if tomorrow's interview with Yan Wenhan went well and he secured the position, Xia Yu could expect to regain some free time from his busy schedule. This would enable him to focus more on copying "Xun Qin Ji."

Putting down his pen, Xia Yu eventually drifted off to sleep around eleven o'clock.
