Chapter 53: Chapter 54 : Five Great Calamities!!!
After giving it a second read, Bisky passed the phone to Shizuku, letting her peruse it alone.
Shizuku declined, saying, "I won't read it again. It feels like I've already got it committed to memory."
"You feel like you've already remembered it?" Bisky shot Shizuku a suspicious glance, then remarked, "Well, your memory's always been a bit hit-or-miss. Since you're so sure, let's see if you've really got it."
Turning to Germain once more, she pondered for a moment before inquiring, "Are you familiar with the 'Dangerous Creatures' Comprehensive Assessment and Level Chart?"
Germain nodded. "Yes, I came across it on the Hunter Exclusive website."
"The comprehensive assessment of dangerous creatures is based on four criteria: 'quantity,' 'threat to humans,' 'reproductive capacity and speed,' and 'destructive capability.'"
"Ranked from highest to lowest, they fall into five levels: 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' 'D,' and 'E.'"
"That's it." Bisky rested her hands on the tea table, suddenly rising to her feet. "The danger levels of the 'Five Great Calamities' that I'm aware of range between A to B."
"Now, I have two questions. First, why didn't you return with any 'calamities'? And second, can you rate the creatures you encountered?"
Expeditions into the Dark Continent almost always end in failure, with teams often wiped out entirely. Those fortunate enough to survive usually bring back "calamities."
And "despair" and "hope" are often intertwined.
These "hopes" frequently make significant contributions to the human world, which is why so many pursue them.
Unfortunately, no "hope" has ever been brought back. Instead, at least five "calamities," embodying "despair," have been returned.
The "Five Great Calamities and Hopes" are as follows:
"Pap, the Human-Keeping Beast," and "Unmanned Rock."
"Brion, the Botanical Weapon," and "Herb for All-illnesses."
"Hellbell, The Twin-Tailed Snake," and "Nitro Rice."
"Ai, Gaseous Lifeform," and "Trinity Elixir."
"Zobae Disease, The Immortality Disease" and "Alchemy Plant Metallion"
Bisky gazed at Germain with keen eyes, harboring questions that had lingered in her mind for some time. Though unseen, she steeled herself, having made the decision to place her trust in Germain.
Germain was not one to conceal his secrets. Whenever Bisky and Shizuku inquired, he responded with brevity.
"The reason is the same as my venture into the 'Dark Continent'—it was my 'lantern'. I skirted the 'gatekeepers' and 'guides', steering clear of both 'disasters' and 'hopes'."
Though I've mentioned it before, allow me to elaborate once more.
"Bisky, Shizuku, are you familiar with a game tailored for hunters called 'Greed Island'?"
Shizuku shook her head.
After a moment of contemplation, Bisky smacked her palm and exclaimed, "Ah, it's coming back to me. That was the game concocted by that troublesome individual. It's rumored to be quite lucrative. The 'troublesome individual' she referred to was Ging Freecss, one of the 'Twelve Zodiacs of the Hunter Association'."
"Indeed, 'Greed Island' is real." Germain cut through the haze before Bisky, "All gaming consoles transport players to an island.
Bisky's eyes widened in astonishment, "Is that so? I hadn't paid much attention to this information...but constructing a 'game world' does indeed align with Ging's style."
Later, she grasped the reason why Germain mentioned 'Greed Island'.
"I see." Bisky pointed at Germain, "Your 'lantern' functions akin to a 'game console'. Through the 'lantern', we can directly access the 'Dark Continent'."
"Yes, precisely. This explains why I traverse swiftly and return without 'disasters', though I must bear certain costs."
Bisky nodded, her thoughts flowing like a fountain, everything falling into place, "It's the 'Pressure', 'Negative traits', and 'disease' you mentioned earlier...all the pieces fit together."
"The true situation, you'll comprehend once experienced." Germain remarked, "As for the 'dangerous creature rating', I could draft one, albeit with bias."
"I'm not specialized in studying organisms, and I lack the time and energy for such pursuits. It's more about intuition and the impressions garnered from real encounters."
Bisky crossed her arms, pondering for a moment.
"That's acceptable. A hunter's intuition holds weight at times. Rather than coercing you to apply non-professional knowledge in grading, relying on intuition is preferable."
"Just compile a rating list based on your personal assessments. Don't fret, Shizuku and I will merely consider it as a reference. Our judgments will be made at the moment."
After hearing Bisky's remarks, Germain couldn't shake off the thought of Hisoka's personal take on the "Nen Ability System."
"My personal take... That being said, has someone truly encapsulated the essence of each 'Nen Ability Type' by their personality? Can we trust such categorization?"
Bisky reclined on the swing chair, tossing her leftover apple core into the trash can before turning to Germain with a curious expression. "What's your take on it?"
"The guy mentioned..." Germain paused, pondering briefly before continuing, "The 'Enhancement' type is depicted as straightforward and unsophisticated, while the 'Transmutation' type is portrayed as unpredictable and deceitful..."
Interrupting Germain, Bisky, being of the 'Transmutation' type, couldn't hold back. "That's hardly credible, don't you think? It's quite a leap to label someone as deceitful and unpredictable..."
She adopted a delicate, almost teary-eyed expression, reminiscent of a distressed young girl.
Hisoka was onto something, Germain mused as he glanced at Bisky.
Germain had a valid point, Shizuku silently agreed as she observed Bisky.
"Please, continue," Bisky's expression swiftly shifted back to her cheerful demeanor. "What else did this person claim?"
Germain didn't hesitate, spilling out the rest in one breath.
"He mentioned that the 'Emission' type is reckless and impatient, while the 'Conjuration' type prefers logic and has a methodical approach."
"The 'Manipulation' type tends to be neurotic, whereas the 'Specialization' type is individualistic and often takes on leadership roles."
Nodding along, Bisky gestured towards Germain and Shizuku. "The 'Manipulation' type being neurotic and the 'Enhancement' type being straightforward, I've encountered such individuals myself."
"However," she continued, "we mustn't judge a person's 'Nen ability' solely based on these traits, as there are exceptions to every rule, and preconceptions can lead to fatal errors in life-or-death battles."
As a seasoned hunter with over two decades of experience beyond Germain and Bisky, Bisky's words held weight, and both nodded in agreement.
"So, our assessments will follow a similar vein. Agreed?" Germain inquired.
"Absolutely," Bisky nodded emphatically. "Just a word of caution: presenting data too professionally might cloud our judgment. As hunters, firsthand observation trumps hearsay when it comes to assessing prey."
