Annie Sutton looked at Lydia Shire's feigned madness and did not speak harshly. Instead, she took out a document from under the table.

"If you really don't understand, Miss Shire, why did you bother to investigate Amelia Cobb?"

"Did you think that contacting Amelia's enemies in secret would remain unknown?"

"What does the First Lady need me to do?"

Lydia quickly got to the point.

"The position of the Robinson Family's daughter-in-law should not be filled by a woman like Amelia Cobb. Miss Shire's actions might be a bit despicable, but they are not entirely without merit."

Lydia was surprised.

Not entirely without merit?

Did that mean Annie actually approved of her actions?

"You heard me right. I approve of your actions."

"Why?" Lydia was astonished.

"Family interests."

Annie picked up the coffee the butler had brought and took a sip nonchalantly.

Meanwhile, Lydia seemed utterly shocked by her words and didn't know what to say.
