Mikel Anderson's eyes reddened, and the tears at the corners of his eyes never fell. "Thank you," he said to Lyra Smith.

"You're welcome," Lyra replied with a smile. "For me, it's just a small matter. But I also hope you can escape and come back safe and sound."

"But the chances of me surviving are slim," Mikel confessed at this moment, no longer hiding anything from Lyra.

In Mikel's view, Lyra was so afraid of death, and if he didn't go, she would be in danger.
