Chapter 7: Game Points

Max understood the reason why he wasn't given a System Book as the book was merely an amplifier to abilities, and he happened not to have any.

But the demon had offered him a system book even though he was a D-user, so why couldn't the military school do the same thing? he wondered. Only if he had known this before now, he would've leave with Ivy.

Max's excitement completely faded as he realized that he wouldn't be laying his hands on a System Book anytime soon. He was starting to regret not taking the offer of the demon yesterday.

Come to think of it, the deal was a great one. All he needed to do was accept the demon, who wouldn't even possess him. After all, the demon already have a place he was dwelling, which was the book. The demon also promised him an ability immediately after he accepts the deal. And lastly, the demon wasn't as scary and ugly as the military schools painted them.

Well, he guessed it was too late since he was trapped here and the book was at home under his bed. He couldn't even ask his mother to bring it with her if he could because the book was too creepy, and the write-ups... 'Arg... forget it.' Max shook his head to stay focused.

"I'm sorry, Max," said Finn, but Max just nodded.

Soon, the hologram lady resumed her announcement.

[The glowing stripe lines on your suits represent your health points (HP):

< Green: Full HP >

< Orange: In Use >

< Red: Low >

< Black: Unconscious or Dead >]

Max's mood was completely ruined by this last revelation. 'Why is my situation always the opposite of everything good,' he muttered since his suit was the only glowing orange one.

However, Max knew the reason behind his orange glowing suit. If he hadn't gotten into a fight with Jacob yesterday, his suit would also have been glowing green by now.

[There are more students at other blocks which will be introduced to your guys tomorrow. A tour around the school will also commence tomorrow at 10 am. But for now, follow the soldiers to your rooms.]

"To our rooms? Do you want us to starve to death?!" James, a very huge student declared to the Hologram Lady. Soon, other students backed him up in protest.

[10 points have already been added to your Game Points (GP). You can check your wrist screen to confirm. With your GP, you can buy, order, and unlock things in the military school. In every room, there's an air tube that delivers everything you can find and pay for with your GP. When you get to your rooms, there's a glass panel with a dashboard. Select whatever you want and place your wrist on the dashboard to transfer GP for payment.] After the detailed explanation, the hologram lady disappeared.

The students started discussing in groups. Since the hologram lady was gone, they were all free to speak openly and loudly.

"Do they have chickens? I wonder how much a chicken will cost."

"What if 10 GP can buy me a car here?" A student joked.

"I will just order a wine and a hotdog," another student stated.

Max and Finn stood there admiring the System Book that was given to Finn, indeed it was just as it was shown on TVs; no writeups. But there wasn't also any sign that indicated the kind of ability the system book will amplify, which was strange though.

The students were led to a corridor that had 67 room doors in total, indicating three students to a room. The doors were made of metal and also had a small dashboard in the middle. That's where the students were to place their wrists to unlock the doors.

The bearded soldier who was in charge of the Turnstile checkpoint echoed, "Your room numbers are displayed on your wrist screen. You can only unlock your room door with your wrist, so make sure you don't go to the wrong door."

Max immediately looked at his wrist screen, and soon the number 55 appeared. He raised his head abruptly to look at the number on Finn's wrist; unfortunately, they were not roommates. Finn's wrist was displaying 30.

"See you soon, buddy." They both shared a fist bump, and Max walked towards his room door, which seemed to be ahead.

When Max reached door 55, he was surprised to see one student in particular standing there as well. It was the silent Caleb who had been giving him attitude since the Turnstile checkpoints.

However, the other student who was also standing there wasn't expected. The student was none other than James, the huge student who asked the hologram lady about food. Well, thanks to him, that area was settled.

"Hi, I'm Max!" He introduced and extended his hand for a handshake from either Caleb or James. Max already knew that Caleb wouldn't take his hand, but James did with a grin.

For a split second, Max thought he was actually going to be living with a bully, considering James's massive size. But James seemed nice.

James wasn't chubby; rather, he was muscular and tall. He had this striking smirk that he always wore on his face. Even if it turned out that James is a D-user like Max, there's a possibility that he could take down a C1 ability user. The Star-war ranger suit hugged James like a second skin, highlighting all his muscles. A few ladies during the DNA registration even had their eyes on him.

Caleb, on the other hand, was even skinnier than Max. He had a stylish haircut that brought out his cuteness from all angles.

"So, who is going to open it?" James asked.

"How about the youngest of us?" Max suggested, referring to Caleb. But as usual, Caleb won't respond.

"Or, we can just walk through it?"James muttered.

Max wondered how he expected them to walk through a three inches thick, tech-enabled metal door. Perhaps, James was more of a joker than they thought.

Soon they noticed that they were the only ones remaining in the corridor, as everyone else had entered their rooms. They've waited for Caleb for almost two minutes, but he wasn't moving. Right then, Max concluded again that Caleb was indeed deaf and mute.

James abruptly placed his wrist on the screen, and the door slid open like an elevator door. James and Max walked inside, and Caleb followed right after.

The room assigned to Max, James, and Caleb was a perfect haven. It emanated warmth and coziness, providing a comfortable escape from the unfamiliar surroundings. Three inviting beds, each adorned with soft blankets and plump pillows. The room was just the right size, spacious enough to accommodate their needs without feeling overwhelming.

Positioned in the center of the room was a well-lit table, offering a place for them to gather and interact. A bathroom door was also in sight, fortunately the door doesn't require their wrists for passage.

Nearby, a window allowed the moon light to filter in from outside. The Air tube that had been described earlier was visible by the side of the window, and just beneath the Air tube was the glass panel with a dashboard, ready to facilitate transactions and exchanges using their Game Points (GP).

"Wow! I'm finally here," James exclaimed in joy.

"Do you like military schools?" Max asked.

James headed straight to the Air tube that the hologram lady described. He turned to look at Max and then responded.

"All my life I've been training and wishing to get into a military college, but my parents were against it."

"Funny, my parents had wanted this. So I guess either way, I still would've ended up here."

"But you don't like it here, do you?" James asked as he tried to understand how the dashboard works.

Max looked around the room and liked what he had seen so far, the only problem was him not having an ability or a system book.

"I don't know. I guess I will find out."
