Chapter 10: Tom, Want to Test Immortality?
Both of these items seemed familiar to Adrian. The cigars were used by Tom to show off and impress girls when he encountered the little female cat. They could create fancy smoke rings.
As for the milk, it seemed that because Jerry kept stealing and drinking it, Tom decided to get revenge by pouring a bunch of dangerous chemicals into it. Unexpectedly, Jerry transformed into a muscular devil mouse after drinking it, and he gave Tom a good beating.
Perhaps this could be understood as a kind of berserk potion?
Having these items made Adrian feel a bit safer. At least he wasn't a complete weakling anymore.
Adrian took out a cigar from his inventory and decided to see if it was as magical as described.
Looking at the brown, stick-like object in his hand, Adrian was unsure. He didn't know how to smoke, and he didn't even know which end was up.
He had no choice but to ask Tom how to use it.
Tom, of course, understood. He reached behind his back, took out a small tool, and skillfully cut the cigar for Adrian. Then, he handed it to Adrian's mouth.
After that, Tom reached behind his back again, pulled out a matchstick, struck it on the sole of his foot with a "chirp," and lit it. He signaled for Adrian to bring the cigar closer and inhale deeply.
Adrian followed the instructions, successfully lighting the cigar. He held it between two fingers just like a smoker would, moving it away from his mouth to exhale a puff of white smoke.
"Hello world!"
The smoke formed into the shape of two words, maintaining their form for a few seconds before dissipating in the wind.
"It actually works!" Adrian felt fascinated. Other than that, he was clueless. He didn't know how to smoke, and when he tried, he ended up just coughing out the smoke.
Tom looked at Adrian blowing smoke rings and displayed an intrigued expression. He then took out a cigar, prepared it, and lit it himself.
The smoke took shape: "Go on!"
Adrian was amused and took another puff, blowing it out. However, nothing happened this time. He tried a few more times, but it didn't work. "It seems like only the first puff has an effect."
Tom tilted his head, took a drag, and exhaled a smoke ring in the shape of two Chinese characters. "Is that so?"
Adrian was stunned, but Tom's performance wasn't over yet. From simple circular smoke rings to English letters, and then to Chinese characters, there seemed to be no limit to what he could do. He even managed to blow a smoke ring out of his ear.
Finally, he ended with a smiling cat face.
"Alright, Tom, you're really amazing. I'm just a weakling who relies on items." Adrian had to admit his own inadequacy.
Tom crossed his arms and moved the cigar from one side of his mouth to the other, wearing a smug expression.
Adrian snatched the cigar from Tom's mouth and extinguished both cigars. "Okay, let's stop playing. Smoking is bad for your health."
It definitely wasn't jealousy. By the way, would smoking really harm Tom's health?
Adrian made a gesture as if he was going to throw the cigar away, but then hesitated and put it back into his inventory. He had plenty of space, and you never knew when something might come in handy.
Embracing his inner hamster-player mentality, he couldn't bear to throw anything away as long as there was space in his inventory.
As for the other item, the magical milk, Adrian took it out, examined it, and put it back. The milk was truly bubbling and looked like it could explode at any moment. Tom seemed a bit anxious looking at it.
Adrian didn't dare to try it now, nor did he want to waste it. He might need to use it as a last resort when facing danger in the future.
Checking the time, Adrian decided to exercise a bit more. It would help recharge the magic array while also giving him a chance to work on his physical fitness.
As he watched the slowly rising numbers, Adrian felt revitalized. With a determined mindset, he set off on his exercise routine.
Struggling through half an hour of jogging, Adrian managed to raise his energy to 43%. He was exhausted and panting heavily.
He noticed that the running speed had an impact on energy gain. Overall, he realized that jogging for about an hour and a half would accumulate enough energy. If he ran faster, it might only take an hour.
He also tried push-ups and similar exercises, which did increase energy but seemed less efficient than jogging.
In any case, he would need to exercise for at least an hour and a half every day. Once his stamina increased, he might be able to recharge multiple times a day.
Adrian, with his current stamina, found all types of exercises to be quite challenging. He couldn't help but envy those who excelled in physical activities.
But no matter how tough it was, he had to persist. If his strength remained so weak, he wouldn't have any sense of security in this world.
Adrian returned to Goodman's house, tired but satisfied, along with Tom.
He hadn't had a chance to appreciate the scenery of the island earlier due to his focus on recharging. Thankfully, he wasn't as directionally challenged as Zoro, or he might not have found his way back.
Observing the exotic buildings, pedestrians passing by, and bubbles occasionally rising from the ground, Adrian walked back leisurely.
These bubbles were said to be produced by the gas emitted by the roots of the red trees underfoot. This gas combined with the special resin secreted by the trees, creating the bubbles.
The bubbles would rise continuously until they left the unique environment of the Sabaody Islands, at which point they would burst.
Adrian, being a science student, subconsciously pondered the air released by the tree roots and the density of regular air. He couldn't help but think, weren't these bubbles rising a bit too unscientifically? Not to mention that there was a cat inside one of them.
Wait, where's the cat?
Adrian raised his head and saw Tom looking at the ground, growing smaller as he floated higher. Panicked, Tom struggled to get out of the bubble.
"Tom, use your claws to make a bigger hole and come out!" Adrian quickly instructed.
Tom, relieved to be free, extended his front paws and scratched at the bubble's surface. With a pop, the bubble burst.
Tom's face lit up momentarily, but then he seemed to remember something. He extended his tail to check beneath him, finding nothing. Suddenly, he dropped from the bubble, eyes wide in shock, limbs flailing in midair.
Adrian hurried to catch him, but he was a moment too late.
Tom fell to the ground with a splat.
"Um..." Adrian bent down, peeling the flattened cat off the ground. He held him in his hands, and in an instant, Tom returned to his original state.
"Tom, I noticed in your profile that you have the ability of immortality. How about we do some tests?" Adrian remembered that no matter how Tom was sliced, squashed, burned to ashes, or whatever, he could always regenerate. He had just witnessed Tom being flattened, and
now he wondered if there were other things they could try.
Tom looked at Adrian with a horrified expression, as if he was looking at a demon.
