Chapter 3: Chapter three

18.

When Peter got back into the tower, he immediately went in for a shower. The patrol was rather boring, and DD's teasing made him want to jump off the Empire State Building, but he understood Spanish a little better than when he left the tower, so he counts that as a win.

At 10 pm, Peter was showered and was ready to sleep when F.R.I.D.A.Y started speaking, "Welcome back, Peter. Boss requested your presence in his lab." He frowned in confusion. Was something wrong? Peter sighed, put his slippers on and made his way to Stark's lab.

Peter got out of the lift and made his way to the lab. He filled the code in and entered, drinking the sight he was met with. If he was allowed to film there, he definitely would have done that. Tony was chasing DUMM-E an occasional cuss coming out of the man's mouth. Peter contemplated helping out but decided against the idea as the sight was hilarious.

Though when it looked like DUMM-E was about to start a fire, he decided he should help. He was sure that Mr Stark couldn't handle two fires in one day. Or more, Peter never knew what the man was doing when unsupervised. Peter sighed and cleared his throat, gaining the attention of the residents in the room. "Hey, E? Let's leave the poor old man alone." DUMM-E immediately stopped when he heard Peter, turning around and beeping excitedly. Tony, however, had too much momentum in order to suddenly stop, causing him to run against DUMM-E. Peter gave a sympathetic wince when he saw the engineer rubbing his arms. Tony turned around at the wince and spoke. "Hey, who are you calling old?" The genius turned around and pointed his screwdriver at Peter, raising his eyebrows. "I'm far from old, young man. And why does E listen to you, but not me?" The engineer rolled his eyes, a pouting look creeping up his face.

Peter snorted at that and replied. "He likes me better." Tony gasped and put his hand over his heart, shooting a mock-betrayed look at DUMM-E. He then scoffed and then resumed doing whatever it was that DUMM-E ran away from. Peter fumbled with the hem of his shirt and spoke. "So, what did you need?'

Tony looked away for a second, saying a small "Huh?", not paying attention to DUMM-E. The robot took that as his chance to run away, and Tony mumbled something under his breath that sounded like "Ti trasformerò in un porta carta igienica." (I'll turn you into a toilet paper holder) and gave up on his task with DUMM-E. The robot made his escape to the other side of the lab, playing with his ball.

Tony now fully had his attention and seemed to finally process Peter's question. "You made quite a first impression earlier today."

Tony saw Peter's confused look and sighed. "Please tell me you remembered meeting Barnes."

Peter registered Tony's words, and his eyes comedically widened. "I met Bucky Barnes? The Winter Soldier?" Peter started pacing. "Oh my days, I called him Jesus. I called Steve Rogers' best friend Jesus! I apologised right? Yeah, yeah I did. At least I think I did. I am so stupid, please tell me he doesn't hate me or I-"

Before Peter could spiral his rambling into self-deprivation, Mr Stark interrupted him. "Easy kid, he doesn't hate you. It was rather funny. I changed his name to Jesus in my contacts. Anyway, that's not really why I needed you. I wanted to talk about a certain field trip. A little birdie told me no one believed it. What's up with that?"

Field trip? Oh yeah, field trip. The trip to his home, his safe place. The place where his classmates are headed to. The place that people think Peter is lying about. Peter abruptly stopped pacing when he realised that Tony was actually waiting for an answer. He sighed. "Well, being the intern of a man flying around in a titanium gold-alloy suit - which is powered by an element that he created - and owning a multi-billion company working on clean energy, isn't all that believable. Especially since SI usually accepts people that are at least 19 years old, with a close to zero percent chance of exception, so..."

Tony blinked at Peter. "Fair enough. Though I'll have you know that there are at least three young geniuses here, excluding you." Two or three other young interns? Peter wasn't aware that the 'close' on 'close to zero' really played a part.

Tony interrupted Peter's line of thinking. "Anyway, about the plan-" Peter didn't let Tony finish speaking.

"Yeah, the plan. I wanted to know, how are we going to do that? I'm not an intern of SI, I have one with you, and I rarely come down there. And I was supposed to demonstrate something, but the lab where I actually could make something to demonstrate got blown up. Boom." Peter made a blow-up gesture with his hands and then winced. "Sorry about that, by the way. I forgot to ask you to look over the project I was working on over. Anyway, I want to know how we're going to do this..." Peter trailed off and made a vague gesture and then puffed his cheeks when he realised he interrupted Tony.

"Sorry, what did you want to say?" Tony shoved some papers aside on a table, sat down on it, and took a moment to speak before making sure Peter was finished talking. "Yeah, about the plan. I was thinking of actually making you an intern at SI. You're officially an intern of mine and therefore not a part of the company, but I don't see the reason actually to make you an intern as we have the papers that show you're an SI intern. If you intern, you get an assigned supervisor, lab station, and test lab you'll use. Of course, you'll still intern in my labs too, but I think it would be good for you to see the inside outs of the company. But that's up to you."

Tony patted the space on the table next to him, and Peter went to sit down on it. Peter swung his legs, thinking about the offer. It was a good opportunity, but would it fit into his schedule? He'd have to change things up a lot , and he'd rather avoid it. But then again, it was a great opportunity everyone would take on. And, he'd learn more about the company he has always adored. Yeah, it'd be a good idea to accept. But…

"Alright, it seems like a good idea. But, you'll have to help me with changing up my schedule."

Tony let out what seemed a sigh of relief, and placed an awkward and hesitating hand on Peter's shoulder, slightly squeezing it. Tony slowly nodded. "Alright, we can do that."

It was almost eleven pm when Peter finished up with Mr Stark. He waved the older man goodnight and made his way to his room. Tonight, Peter went to bed with a new schedule and as an intern for Stark Industries.
