The Green Door
Gar follows what J'onn said and when their minds meet, he asks "J'onn why the theatrics with the candle? You could have just entered my mind and we could meet there."
"This is the more ceremonial way. By doing the initial meeting over a heat source it shows the participants willingness to burn before entering the mind. A show of sincerity is another way of looking at it. Also doing it this way allows you to draw my mind in rather than me just barging in as I wish." J'onn said.
"Very well." With a thought I grip his thoughts and draw them into my mind. When we get there, we both take form before my mind fortress. As we entered over the bridge, I took him around the fortress and allowed him to look around as he wanted.
I took him to the red wall and pointed, "This is my connection to The Red Cosmic Flow I told you about."
J'onn looks around and says "I see nothing, just your mindscape. No wall is visible to me."
"But you can see the statues in the area, correct? I assume they are pivotal moments and people that helped shape my mind." I asked
He replied "Yes, they are what make you who you are. They can only be damaged if your mind is damaged. Their size is dictated by their importance to you at the moment."
"This would also be where any mental suggestions would be. They would take the shape of the person related to them. For instance, if I placed a mental suggestion in your mind, it would take the shape of a statue of me here." He continued.
"When Connor told us about his meeting with Lex Luthor, I found a statue of him in Connors mindscape and together we destroyed it so it could no longer control him. The same was done to Roy Harper clone, but in his case, it was Deathsport who controlled his trigger."
After thinking for a moment, I said "From what I got out of the scientist that was watching me I don't think they ever intended this body to gain a conciseness. I'm betting it was being set up for someone else to absorb the powers from it. There are several villains that could do that I assume. So, they probably didn't bother setting up any triggers. Still, I'm glad for the confirmation."
"Let's head into the library and I will show you the doors I was telling you about." I motion for J'onn to follow me.
"In a hallway closest to my core memories, I found four doors, each of the colors representing the four colors of Martians I believe. When I first found them, I noticed the green door was open already though I didn't enter it, I didn't even try any of the other doors. I just didn't have the time because I was trying to meet up with M'gann." I explained as we walked
"It is intriguing that you would have such a clear connection to the cast of our people. We have a vast array of powers that you don't seem to share. Though you being a clone it is possible your powers are still developing, much like a child Martian." J'onn speculates.
As we walk into what I refer to as my library J'onn pauses. "You have a very orderly mind; this will only strengthen your telepathy. At the stage you are now I would easily put you among the top 10 telepaths in the world and you are still growing."
"I am unsure on how to train in my telepathy, so far all I do is focus on my mental defenses like the walls and my fortress and try to thicken them." I tell him
"We can work on that together. A good exercise is to have a fellow telepath and you take turns mentally pushing against each other. Alternate who pushes and who is trying to block. I got to the point in my Manhunter training that it would take three individuals to push me back even a little." J'onn said
I point to the hallway and say, "Here are the doors I was talking about."
J'onn moves forward to investigate and finds the doors just as I told him. A green one partially open and the red, white and yellow all closed. "You say you have not tried to enter a door, correct?"
"Yes, when I first entered this room, I was having a bit of an identity crisis. The child Garfield's memories had created a separate body and I needed to meld us back together into one entity. After that was done, I had to get to my meeting spot with Miss. Martian, so I didn't look around much." I explained
"We should discuss that at a later time, I am having trouble combining my original personality with the one developed after arriving on Earth after my mind was wiped by Ma'alefa'ak. I believe that is a reason I have so much trouble learning many of earth's customs, because I know them already but it's in the thoughts of the other me." J'onn ponders.
I approach the partially open door and say, "Well shall we enter and see what we have in this room?"
"After you, it is your mind after all." J'onn says
Pushing the door open I look in to find a table with J'onn J'onzz sitting at it looking at me. I enter further and hear J'onn behind me say "Intriguing to say the least."
This J'onn looks well, darker. His skin color is a darker green and his outfit is all black covering his whole body with a red X still across his chest. His head is not so cone shaped but a more rounded, human looking one. He still had the blue cape, but the collar wasn't so high as the J'onn behind me. I recognized the shape to be the one used in the New 52 done by DC and to be honest I prefer this look over the one behind me.
The 52 J'onn stands up and without saying anything he shifts his shape into a giant cobra with four arms and a very thick and strong tail. He looks at me for a moment and then returns to his original shape, waits a moment then goes back to the giant cobra shape and looks at me.
"I think he wants me to copy him?" I say to J'onn
Imagining the shape next to The Red wall I shift into a giant cobra just like the 52 J'onn. But he just returns to his original shape again and stares at me. So, I also return to normal, but once I do, he shifts again. When I follow, he returns to normal again. Curious I turn to J'onn and ask, "What do you think J'onn?"
"Change again young Gar, I have a theory." He says
So, I change again but once I do the 52 J'onn returns to his human shape.
"I believe I see." J'onn says "Your method of changing seems more like you are allowing an outside source to enter you and change your shape but we Martians use our minds to change our Biometric structure to become what we desire. My twin and I were able to do so at speeds no Martian could before and only my niece M'egann has come close to matching it since from my understanding. Her strength is amazing, I believe she will be stronger than me within a hundred years making her the strongest Martian. This will cause much strife on M'arzz as she is a white Martian."
Thinking about his words I push my mind into my body and imagine my legs fusing into a tail and my chest expanding to accept the additional arms along with my head growing to the shape of the creature 52 J'onn was showing me. It was tricky because I had to keep my mind on the shape and also forcing my cells to change at the same time. It seemed to take forever but I finally did it.
This shape change took a long time but after it was done, I didn't have to think about it any longer like I did with shifting with The Red. Though I could feel a slight drain on my mind. Like I was focusing on convincing my body it needed to stay in this shape.
The 52 J'onn returned to his human shape and nodded his head. So, I returned to my original form and changed back a couple more times to see if I could get any faster, but the time took about the same each change. Maybe I could work on that and make the change as fast as I do with The Red.
Next, 52 J'onn lifted his right arm and I saw it slowly increase in size. Once again, I started to copy him with me using my telepathy to make my arm inflate to match his. He returned his arm to normal size and then repeated it once again slowly growing larger.
J'onn from beside me says "Ahh, I see. He is showing you how to increase your density and make you stronger. To do this I pull the cells of my muscles together and my mind then shape changes to increases the size of the muscle so I can further increase its density. It is how I have the strength comparable to Superman.
