Chapter 34: I Am Grateful

Lex nodded at the man casting spells wildly to deal with the monsters. He prepared to run by checking on Silika and Midnight, who meowed.

With that done, he started running from the academy as Devourers appeared and rushed at the soldiers.

Silika looked back to see the man who was her father's best friend get swallowed in a tide of chitin and talons.

Lex left the academy grounds and ran down one of the west streets. The echoes of Hivefiend's roars chase them through the maze of crumbling buildings.

Lex's quick moves, learned from many fights, helped a lot. He easily jumped over things, slid under debris, and did impressive jumps to stay ahead of the chasing monsters.

Once teeming with life, the city now lay in ruins, a somber testament to the merciless onslaught of the Hivefiends.

The occasional flash of explosions illuminated the chaotic landscape. As they neared the western gate, Lex's eyes scanned the area for a route of escape.
