Leo and Ariana participated in a raid on a supply convoy that belonged to the mage. They joined a team of ten dragonkin, led by Ryn, who had scouted the convoy's route and timing. They waited for the convoy to pass by a narrow valley, where they ambushed it from both sides.
The convoy consisted of a dozen wagons, guarded by two dozen soldiers and four dragons. The wagons carried weapons and supplies, such as swords and shields, food and water, potions and scrolls. The soldiers wore metal armor and helmets, and carried spears and crossbows. The dragons were large and fierce, and breathed fire and smoke.
The raiders attacked the convoy with surprise and speed. They used their swords and bows, their spells and charms, their fire and ice. They targeted the soldiers and the wagons first, killing or wounding them, destroying or stealing them. They avoided the dragons as much as possible, knowing that they were too strong and dangerous.
Leo and Ariana fought bravely and skillfully. Leo used his Starblade to cut through the soldiers' armor and flesh, leaving them dead or dying. Ariana used her magic to cast fireballs and lightning bolts, setting them on fire or shocking them. They also helped each other out, covering each other's backs.
They managed to steal some weapons and supplies, loading them on their horses or backpacks. They also freed some prisoners, who were chained to the wagons. They were human villagers, who had been captured by the mage's forces. They were grateful to the raiders, who gave them some food and water, and told them to run away.
They were about to retreat, when they heard a loud roar.
They looked up, and saw that one of the dragons had noticed them.
It was a red dragon, the largest and fiercest of the four. It had scales as hard as steel, claws as sharp as blades, teeth as big as daggers. It had eyes as bright as fire, wings as wide as clouds, a tail as long as a whip.
It was angry and hungry.
It flew towards them, breathing fire.
It said to them,
"How dare you attack my master's convoy? You will pay for your insolence!"
The raiders panicked.
They said to each other,
"Oh no! It's a dragon! What do we do?"
Ryn said to them,
"Run! Run for your lives!"
He turned his horse around, and galloped away.
The other raiders followed him.
They ran away from the dragon, hoping to escape.
But the dragon was faster than them.
It chased them down the valley, spitting fire at them.
It hit some of them with its fire, burning them alive.
It hit some of them with its claws, tearing them apart.
It hit some of them with its teeth, biting them in half.
It hit some of them with its tail, smashing them into pieces.
It killed half of them in minutes.
Leo and Ariana were among the survivors.
They dodged the dragon's attacks, using their skills and luck.
They also fought back, using their weapons and magic.
Leo swung his Starblade at the dragon's head, hoping to cut it off.
Ariana cast a freezing spell at the dragon's wings, hoping to freeze them solid.
But their efforts were in vain.
The dragon was too strong for them.
It shrugged off their attacks, as if they were nothing.
It laughed at their attempts, as if they were jokes.
It said to them,
"Foolish mortals! You think you can harm me with your toys? You think you can stop me with your tricks? You are nothing but insects to me! I will crush you like bugs!"
It continued to chase them down the valley.
It continued to kill them one by one.
It continued to enjoy its hunt.
Leo and Ariana realized that they had no chance of escaping or defeating the dragon.
They realized that they were going to die.
They looked at each other with fear and sadness.
Leo braced himself, waiting for the final blow, but he didn't feel anything. he opened his eyes and saw the Ariana had cast a spell on the dragon that made it stop moving. It would only last for a couple of hours, so they both hurried back to the resistance base.
