Cerberus looked up at me apologetically. I was so focused on keeping an eye on Demi and assessing my best friend’s wounds; I didn’t see what Lavender had been doing.

“That’s funny. I for one can list at least eight men this year who could have called you the same thing,” Goliath goaded.

Demi didn’t bat an eye. She just shrugged and smiled. Cerberus did his best to stand still. Each movement cut into his neck a hair more. Demi focused her attention on me next.

“She just had sex in front of a whole room of strangers with a man who tried to kill you, your friend, and her. I thought you had more self-respect.” I snarled at her words.

Except I didn’t feel myself snarl. I looked back at Lavender, whose eyes glowed in the dimly lit room. Where had she gotten the bag of seeds in her hand?
