Chapter 27: Who wear a mask now a days?
Based on the dispatch plan constructed by Barbara from the Bat Network, using the satalite, she is responsible for locating the crime scene and sending information to nearby heroes, thus efficiently combating crime.
Prior to this, Quinn had already prevented several heinous crimes, mostly involving drug addicts and small-time thugs. He felt that the Gotham police were overwhelmed, and these criminals posed no threat to him.
However, Scarecrow was the first supervillain Quinn encountered today.
Even with confidence in winning, Quinn carefully observed the number and positions of the robbers and hostages, as well as the crows' route while carrying the cash. Utilizing Manaphy's water refraction invisibility, he swiftly knocked down the crow thugs near the hostages.
Many times, powerful superheroes face a dilemma where the villains hold hostages. Quinn chose not to catch the thieves first to avoid moral dilemmas.
"Manaphy, stay invisible, protect the civilians behind us, and keep them away from me."
Transparent water flows pushed the bank manager under the desk, and a blue water wall blocked the hostages. While Quinn stayed outside the wall.
"Manaphy."
(Leave it to me.)
Scarecrow saw one of his henchmen lying on the ground, with his right eye socket bloody and the bullet that pierced it instantly destroying his brain.
"When did Gotham get a sharpshooter, and a cop at that..." Scarecrow was both shocked and angry; he almost got his head blown off.
Scarecrow claimes himself to be an artist, unlike "businessmen" like Penguin and Black Mask who ran organized crime. Scarecrow was more like a "freelancer" and didn't have his own intelligence network, so he was unaware of Quinn's past exploits.
His henchmen were constantly changing, and the turnover rate was extremely high. Most of them were lured in by money, which was why Scarecrow decided to rob a bank, as he was running low on funds.
However, Scarecrow was skilled at controlling his henchmen with fear. He forced them to inhale fear gas, causing them extreme terror, and they would obey any commands.
Without Scarecrow giving orders, the crows took out submachine guns and sprayed at Quinn. Such a high-density barrage didn't require precise aiming.
Quinn didn't plan to withstand the heat weapons head-on, so he had already prepared a strategy before coming in.
Taking out the prepared Poké Balls, Quinn swung Lake Toya and aimed at the weakest point in the barrage to launch a home run.
In mid-air, the Poké Ball automatically opened, and a beam of light connected to Quinn, causing his body to shrink automatically. He swiftly maneuvered through the hail of bullets and entered the Poké Ball.
"That cop disappeared!"
"Something flew over here!"
The crow thugs couldn't grasp the situation and instinctively wanted to shoot at the red and white ball. But before they could adjust their aim, the Poké Ball reopened.
Accompanied by flickering red light, Quinn held a Glock in his left hand and Lake Toya in his right hand—
"Within seven steps, the knife is faster."
Quinn swiftly crippled one person's leg with a knife.
"Beyond seven steps, the gun is faster."
He emptied the remaining bullets in the magazine.
"Using both knife and gun, I'm the fastest!"
By the time Quinn landed, there wasn't a second person standing on the field.
Discarding the empty gun casually, Quinn used his foot to hold the rolling Poké Ball and exhaled deeply, "It worked, a short-range teleportation tactic built around the Poké Ball."
Within a certain range, Pokémon can be teleported into a Poké Ball, and Quinn devised this tactic based on that ability.
Unfortunately, this tactic has a limited number of uses, as forcibly breaking free from the Poké Ball's restraint would cause severe damage to the Poké Ball, rendering it unusable.
But Quinn still used it without hesitation. He had no Batman utility belt, so he lacked essential tactical tools.
Scarecrow witnessed Quinn's series of actions, watching his henchmen fall like harvested wheat, yet he remained unfazed.
"Aiming for vital points with each shot, showing no mercy, and a completely different fighting style from Batman." His voice was as unsettling as nails scratching against glass.
Quinn followed the sound and noticed a greenish poisonous gas filling the hall.
Scarecrow used the spray from his device to release a large amount of fear gas, concealing himself within the toxic fog.
"I wonder if your willpower is as resilient as your extraordinary skills. Hehe, I can't wait to see you crumble in fear."
Quinn stepped back, under Scarecrow's manipulations, he was surrounded by the gas.
Fear gas was Scarecrow's masterpiece, fusing all his life's learnings. Inhaling this gas made people see their deepest fears, and Scarecrow could use it to make them fear things they had never feared before.
Quinn twirled Lake Toya, attempting to disperse the gas, but he wasn't Barry, and no matter how hard he tried, the gas remained unaffected.
Scarecrow lurked within the gas, watching Quinn being engulfed by it, and then he let out a piercing scream.
"No... no, it's not true!"
Quinn threw Lake Toya away and kept denying whatever he saw in his hallucinations.
"Hahaha, you've lost the courage to even hold onto your weapon. Your mind is even more fragile than I imagined."
Scarecrow chuckled sinisterly, "This is perfect, let me carve a brand-new fear into your heart, an indelible mark. You'll become my most loyal and fierce little dog. Hahaha!"
Just as Scarecrow was about to use words to guide fear into Quinn's heart, Quinn frantically shouted, "No, I'm not a mobile game noob, I'm not!"
Mobile game noob? What on earth is that? A noob?
Before Scarecrow realized what was wrong, a vine had climbed up his leg and blocked the nozzle of his spray device.
"Plant? Ivy?" Scarecrow immediately thought of his colleague.
"Poof, you guessed wrong."
Transformed into Wildvine, Quinn appeared in front of Scarecrow.
"The answer is Wildvine, but no wonder you got it wrong. I do look a lot like Poison Ivy, same green, same immunity to toxins."
The green fear gas effectively concealed the green light emitted when using the Omnitrix, so Scarecrow didn't notice that Quinn had transformed.
Seeing Quinn approach, Scarecrow's breathing tensed. Instead of trying to cut off the vines on his body, he attempted to engage in close combat with Quinn.
He swung the needle-filled gloves on his fingers with a fierce gaze, "Did you think I'm powerless without the gas!"
Scarecrow wasn't overconfident. Although he didn't often resort to this, he possessed exceptional martial talents, Coupled with the toxins hidden on his limbs, Scarecrow had few adversaries.
As Wildvine dodged and taunted, he sneered, "You go by the name Jonathan, yet you use fear as a weapon. You enjoy tormenting others until they break, but you don't even have the courage to reveal your true face.
You're just a coward who only dares to commit crimes while hiding behind a mask. You're even worse than the crows. You don't deserve to die by Lake Toya."
Wildvine seized an opportunity to attach to Scarecrow's back, and the fine vines pierced through the gaps in his gas mask and exposed face, forcibly removing the mask.
"Ah!!!"
Scarecrow let out a horrifying scream, not because of inhaling the gas but because his face was exposed to the sunlight.
This mask wasn't the Scarecrow mask; it was a mask worn by someone who couldn't stand the light.
