Chapter 23: unfair game(1)

Alvin still held Jade's as they walked on the lonely path. Neither of them spoke as each one of them was occupied with their own thoughts. Jade was internally praying and hoping that her friend would be okay while Alvin was wondering why an elf impersonated Jade's friend. What were those creatures up to? He asked himself.

Once Alvin saw that there was nobody around who would see them, they apparated from where they were and when Jade opened her eyes, they were in the king's room. "Don't try to get out of this room until I'm back." Came Alvin's words but Jade was not sure if she would be at peace without knowing where and how her friend was doing insisted on going. "I want to go with you.I can't stay here doing nothing while lydia...." " I promise to bring her to you. Just stay here and wait for me to come back." With those words, Alvin vanished from Jade's side who was left moving back and forth restlessly.

Alvin squatted in the heart of the forest where there were no trees leaving a small piece of land covered with grass. It was a place only a few knew of because the people who tried to explore that forest never made it alive. He looked at the small sharp dagger that he was holding and gently ran his fingers on its edges while feeling it's sharpness and in no time he ran it through his right wrist whereby his blood drops fell on a small blue flower that had the same height as the grass. After sometime Alvin tied his wrist that was still bleeding with a handkerchief and closed his eyes and immediately he opened them, the small flower started to enlarge until it formed a large red portal where he could see a woman lying unconsciously near the river. It was Jade's friend, Murmuring a few words, the flower turned back to the way it was earlier and Alvin disappeared from there.

It did not take long for Alvin to appear where Lydia lay unconsciously near the river bank.

Alvin got back to the palace in the middle of the night and everyone was asleep apart from the guards who were wide awake trying to check if there was any suspicious activity on the palace grounds. He carried Lydia into his arms who was still in her unconscious state and took her to one of the guestrooms and the guards who saw him bowed their heads without uttering a word. laying her on the bed, he walked out of the room and headed back to his quarters where he found Jade sitting at the corner of the room with her knes pulled up to her chest and her chin resting on them. She was still awake. Though the light in the room was dim with a lone candle that was giving the light, Alvin could see her clearly. She was filled with anxiety and the rim of her eyes had turned red due to the tears she had shed when their eyes met.

"Did you find her?" Came her question as she got up from where she was and Alvin gave her a curt nod. "Where is she now? Can I see her?'' She asked as she walked only to stand in the middle of the room and Alvin who had expected her question walked past her and sat on the bed. "She's okay but still unconscious. The one who took her form stole almost half of her soul energy which means it will take time before she regains her consciousness but she is safe. You don't need to worry." "Can I see her?" Alvin took a deep breath and looked at Jade who gave a pleading look. "No. You can't see her.... You can now go to bed, unless you want to give me company tonight of which I don't mind." He said while still looking at her. Jade who had believed that Alvin had saved her friend started to doubt him. Why was he refusing to her to Lydia. When he saw Jade still rooted in one place, he got up and walked towards her. "I have used up a lot of energy to move from one place to another without taking blood and here you are insisting to stay. Jade, do you know how much I'm trying to control my thirst

and seeing you right here makes me want to have a taste of your blood. And that's not the only thing I want." His words and gaze made Jade breathless and she took a step backwards so that she could create a distance between them but that did not stop Alvin because every step she took, she got closer to the wall until she could not move anymore and when she tried to escape by moving sideway, Alvin placed his hands on either side of the wall next to her, trapping her.

Jade's heartbeat accelerated with the close proximity they shared and with the intense predatory gaze that he gave her that made her more nervous. "I_I can't breath." Came Jade's whisper that made Alvin move even more closer until his nose touched her cheek. "That's how I feel everytime you are close to me and I can't have you." He said as he dropped one of his and wrapped it around her petite waist while pulling her more closer. As his hand moved up to her lower back, her breath hitched and she slightly parted her pink lips. Alvin could tell that Jade was getting affected by him with the way she was reacting which made him want to do more.

"I am very thirsty. Can I have a sip." It was more of a statement than a question and it took a lot of resolve for Jade to speak as she could feel his cold breath on her neck. " I want to go to bed." She answered with a shaky breath but she did not realize that Alvin took her statement the way he wanted. And in that instant, he took her into his arms and took her into his large bed.
