The girls walked around the city of Avianna aimlessly having no idea where they could spend a night. As they continued to walk, Jade didn't realize there was an old woman who was walking right ahead of her whereby they ended up bumping into each other with a thud and all the fruits that the old woman carried fell down and rolled on the ground.
Some people spared them a glance while others pretended to have seen nothing and continued with whatever they were doing. "I'm really sorry madam." Jade said as she bent down and started to collect the fruits that had fallen. "it's okay it was just an accident there's no need for you to apologies, and you girls don't seem to be familiar with the place, is it the first time for you to be here?" Asked the woman as she took the fruits that Jade handed to her.
"Actually we are new to the place,. we are looking for a place we could stay at least for a month." Lydia said and Jade nodded at what she said. On hearing what Lydia said, the old woman couldn't help but smile. "You girls seem to be very young, did you run away from your families?"Jade didn't hesitate to answer the question because she knew someone would ask her that. "We didn't run away madam, my sister and I lost our parents a month ago and our relatives aren't very welcoming so we decided to come to the city and look for work." Jade said whereby half of what she said was the truth, while the other half was a lie.
"I don't think my son would mind if I took this girls in." Thought the woman. She knew very well that this place was not safe for humans. "I know a place where you girls can stay." Said the woman and this made the girls smile. At least they didn't have to walk from place to place looking for a house. Lydia thought with a sigh of relief.
The trio walked as quickly as the could due to sudden change of weather as they could tell that it would rain at any moment. They were now away from the city, Lydia seemed to be very tired and as she was about to complain, she saw a house from a far. " That's the place." Said the woman as she pointed the house that was a few metres from where they were.
It took them a few minutes to reach their destination and as soon as the woman opened the door, the girls dropped whatever they carried. As jade looked around, she could tell that she couldn't afford to pay for that kind of a place. She had never seen such a beautiful house in her whole life. The living room had plush chairs and silk curtains and there was a beautiful chandelier at the ceiling which seemed to be very expensive.
"Madam, I don't think that we can afford to pay for such a house. It looks like a palace." Jade said as she continued to look around with awe. "Who said that you are going to pay for the house? To be honest with you I've always wanted to have a daughter, so when you told me about losing your parents, I just couldn't leave out there alone. This place is never safe for humans. When my family and I moved Savan we thought our lives would change for the better and indeed it changed because my husband got a good job and my sons were able to go to elite school...but those vampires killed my husband and as if that was not enough, they killed my first born child."The old woman said as she tried to cover her anguish.
"You are like daughters that I never had and my son will be very happy to have siblings. This house has been lonely for a very long time, feel comfortable here. I'll lead you to you room." Out of emotion,Jade hugged the woman tightly. Though her father loved her very much, She fell the motherly love that she had always craved for. "Thank you." Jade said tearfully.
"I think it's high time I introduce myself."The old woman said and the girls chuckled after they realized that they had also not introduced themselves."I'm Flora Lowrence what about you girls?" Mrs Lowrence asked. Lydia was the first one to introduce herself by using Jade's last name and Jade later introduced herself.
"Okay now let's get you to your rooms." Mrs Lowrence said as she led them through a not so small hallway.
Jade was surprised by how large the room was but the same couldn't be told about Lydia who was used to such kind of life. The room had two beds which seemed to be very comfortable. Jade couldn't wait to lay on that bed. On seeing that the girls wanted to have their own privacy, Mrs Lowrence left the room.
When Mrs Lowrence left Jade turned to her friend who was busy unpacking her luggage and said. "So we are sisters now." "Right we are no longer just good friends,we are sisters."Lydia replied with a smile.
"Lydia, thank you for coming with me. To be honest I was really scared but now that you are with me, I'm really happy." Jade said sincerely and that made Lydia walk slowly where jade stood and held both her hands. "Jade did you forget the pact that we made when we were seven, that we would have each other's back no matter what. Besides we are friends for life as you always told me." With a hug, Jade agreed to what Lydia said. As she withdrew from the hug, Jade said. "We will always be friends for life...or maybe sisters for life." They both chuckled and continued with unpacking the stuff they had carried from home.
After finishing unpacking, the girls took a nap where Mrs Lowrence slowly opened their door and found them sleep. She couldn't help but smile with admiration. Those two reminded her of herself when she was young.
