Chapter 48: Owner

Early the following day, as Adam entered the reception hall, he was contacted by Wilbonn, about the meeting with the owner.

Apparently it would be in an hour.

Deciding it would be best to wait, he sat down, and bided his time as he drank a tall glass of water.

Which rid him of his thirst, as he chugged it down.

As Adam sat, he wondered about what type of person the owner of Vottrat Arena was.

Was he the type who was overbearing, or was he the more lax type?

In the corner of his eye, he watched a man approach.

They had golden hair which pressed their shoulders, and sky blue eyes, wearing a loose red suit that revealed his pectoral muscles.

Their voice silky, they said: "Hey, Adam, I am Miltivan Goldbane, its good to meet you."

Seeing him extend his hand, Adam shook it firmly.

Miltivan went on: "I have heard about your fame. So much, in fact, I have come to see you specifically."

Adam knew that providing him complements now would help with negotiations.

Adam said: "Hi, I was told that a meeting with the owner could happen soon. But, I was never told how outgoing you are."

Chuckling, Miltivan responded: "Is that so, I am glad."

His eyes slightly narrowed, Adam asked: "What is the purpose of the meeting specifically?"

Their lips curling up at the edges, Miltivan said: "Its nothing serious, just wanted to get a feel for the rising star."

Scratching his chin, Adam inquired: "If that's the case, can I make a request?"

Miltivan said: "I can hear you out and we can go from there."

"Is it important? If it is, we should head into my office."

Adam answered: "It is."

After walking for two minutes, going through a few halls, they reached Miltivan's office.

The office was fairly luxurious, with a desk to the back, and a pair of opposing couches before it.

Miltivan gestured to one of the couches, closing the door behind him, and said "Sit."

Sitting down, Adam watched Militivan take a seat immediately after.

Militivan's gaze was slightly serious, as his arms were stretched behind him.

He asked: "Now we are alone, what's your request?"

Adam stated: "I am currently helping out the Violetstones, but my help is sadly not enough. Hence, I would like to negotiate a deal to get them extra support."

His brows raised, Miltivan asked: "Why? Are you sponsored by them? What can you offer me anyway?"

Adam replied, shifting on the couch: "Sort of, I took a quest to escort them here a while back."

"I found myself empathizing with them, as they are in a rut."

Miltivan remarked: "Violetstones used to be a thriving Duchy, if I recall correctly. So they have faced difficulties, I see."

His head tilted to the side, Miltivan asked: "But, my point remains, why should I help?"

The room went silent as Adam spent a moment to ponder.

Adam replied: "Is the arena not your livelihood? If you help them, I can do more to make this arena popular."

Miltivan asked, his voice pitching slightly: "Oh? How would you manage that?"

Adam's eyes glinted. "By having a exhibition match against Zarthak Steelwonder."

A grin rising on his face, Miltivan said: "You think you stand a chance, rookie?"

Adam smirked: "Soon, yeah, I do, and I will certainly work hard to make the match worthwhile."

Miltivan said: "It is early to assume you have a chance."

His hands on his lap, he added: "How about I test you, and if you succeed, then sure, I could give some aid to the Violetstones."

His pitch lower, Adam said: "If that's what is required."

Miltivan nodded. "Since you agree, do stay diligent."

"Goodluck with today's matches by the way."

Adam nodded back. "Thanks, I will do my best to meet your expectations."

Exiting his office, Adam set out for the reception hall, and signed up for his first match of the day.

Entering the fighting pit, Adam lifted the sword in his hands.

Its shine hitting him in his eyes, causing him to rub them.

Half a minute later, the sunlight beamed down at him, as he strolled to the center of the arena.

Strutting towards him, his opponent was a ridiculously large, gangly, pale green giant.

Seven feet tall, if Adam had to estimate.

Possessing beet red eyes, a bulwark and sword and light hide armor.

His gaze sharpening, he evaluated their info.

[Himrusus Umrinya: Level 22 Troll, Guardian, Visiting Arena Star of Gunrak.]

Adam thought, 'Was this the first test, by Miltivan?'

'Guardian sounded like a strong class.'

His gaze hardening, he tilted back, as he stared into the eyes of Himrusus.

Adam greeted: "Hey."

Sneering, Himrusus gave a dismissive glance. "So you are Adam. You look... weak."

A frown slightly forming, his brow deepening, Adam replied: "Sure, and you sound crazy."

Scoffing, Himrusus said: "Adam, you have bark, well, my bad, I suppose."

Shrugging, he said: "Lets see if you are worth all the fanfare."

Adam sighed.

His muscle's tensing up, the humid air swirling through the arena, the announcer declared: "Adam Vs Himrusus! Begin!"

Rushing towards each other, Himrusus lifted his large shield, guarding his face, his sword pulled to his side.

Adam's sword extended in front of him, both his hands firmly placed on the hilt, as he charged.

Lifting his sword overhead, Adam slashed down.

'Lets see how you like this!'

Himrusus's shield swerved over his head, as the sword clanged upon the impact.

His body shaking slightly as he retracted his sword to his side, he looked over to see Himrusus' smirk.

"Not bad for a warm up strike." He coyfully said.

'Fine, you asked for pain, Himrusus.'

His teeth clenched, Adam swept his sword to Himrusus' side.

Himrusus' sword struck out, the swords crashing against each other.

Adam took a step back, while Himrusus started to frown, his feet unmoved.

"That was not so bad." He mused.

Digging his feet into the sand, Adam cleaved, swords connecting, Himrusus stepped forward and bashed his shield out.

Belted in the stomach by the shield, Adam stumbled two steps back.

"Not so bad yourself." Adam scoffed, blitzing forward, he locked onto Himrusus.

A boiling feeling in his heart growing, a grin emerged on Adam's face.

'Yes, this is a real fight!'
