Chapter 59: 59. The Party is Over (Multiple POV)

Darrol and Kaito quietly discussed what they wanted to do with this information since it seemed that their granddaughter was distressed at the moment. They ultimately decided that they would keep the news of her meeting her fated mate, between the two of them for now. It wasn't their place to tell their children about their granddaughter's confession to them, especially since she was now an adult and could make the decision to tell her parents when she was ready. After all, they had done the same thing for their children when they weren't much older than Liona, until their mates found out in a really awkward way that is.

The two headed down to the first floor and rejoined their mates.

"Did you have a good talk with Liona? How is she doing? Did her suppressants kick in?" Leon asked his mom and mother-in-law.

"She's just a bit frazzled at the events at her party. Her suppressants started to kick in, but the one she took was a tranquilizer I believe, so she's going to be asleep for a while." Kaito explained.

"A tranquilizer suppressant?! Was her heat that bad?!" Leon was astonished.

"A precaution, I believe, since it was a rogue heat. She said she isn't normally due until next month, so she wanted to be extra cautious. She sends her apologies and asks if you will explain to her classmates that she won't be able to share the birthday festivities any longer." Kaito filled in his son on what he had talked about with Liona before Darrol had arrived.

"Well, at least she is being careful. I can't fault her for being that way. We have been on her case a bit about making sure she tells us if she experiences any changes in her heat cycle. Maybe the stress of the party and the events that lead up to it just accumulated on her so much that her body is trying to cope by going into heat."

"A good theory, Leon. Stress can certainly trigger a rogue heat…" Lionel said, stepping back into the house, catching the last part of the conversation after having a nice long talk with the Peterson boy that had caused his granddaughter such distress. He won't be bothering her any longer, not after he contacted the boy's parents and had a discussion with them about their son harassing his granddaughter as well as coming uninvited and trespassing on his family's property.

Leon sighed once again. He now had a three-tier cake that would need to be cut and sent home with guests. Thankfully the caterers had provided containers specifically for the leftover food that he could send with the guests. His daughter's health and safety came before anything else, so thankfully Cadence was helping to distract the guests with her music skills. His best friend's little sister was a famous DJ that had played his and Vivian's wedding early in her career, and now she had volunteered her time to play for Liona's party today. Every time they offered to pay her for her professional duty, she declined, stating that this was her gift to her niece.

Like many others in their family, close friends of theirs were pseudo aunts and uncles and in this case since she was the younger sister of his best friend who was Liona's godfather, she was an aunt figure to their daughter. In fact, Vivian's best friend, Jeannette, was married to his best friend, Chadley Baker, and were the godparents to Liona. Both of their twin children's godparents were his and his wife's parents so they didn't feel left out. In fact, his and his twin sister's godparents were his wife's parents, as well, which made them a tight-knit family.

"With Liona asleep for the time being, would you like help wrapping up the party, Leon?" Kaito asked.

"I'm sure we can help with at least this much." Darrol also added.

"If you would please. I need to get the cake and leftover food packed up and sent home with guests, so if each of you could help with that, I'll make sure the guests know to head to the dining room to grab their food there. Thanks Mom, Mother." Leon smiled in relief.

"What can I do to help, son?" Lionel asked.

"I feel left out, what should I do to lend a hand?" Asher asked cheekily.

Leon laughed. His father and father-in-law were so alike, then again, they were best friends so it made sense.

"Alright you two, if you could make sure that there are no stragglers hiding around the house, I'd appreciate it."

"We already checked the backyard, Dad, there's no one outside anymore." Nolan piped up.

"The upstairs is all clear, Dad!" Aurora added.

"That leaves checking the basement, office, and our rooms to see if anyone decided to enter an off-limits area." Leon mused out loud.

"I'll check the basement!" Noah said.

"I'll go check our rooms!" Ariel said.

"I guess that leaves us with nothing to do…" Asher chuckled.

"That's not true, Grandpa!" Ariel and Aurora said in unison.

"Come with us to check!" Nolan and Noah also said in unison.

"I guess that's settled then." Lionel chuckled and let his grandsons grab his hands and drag him towards the basement.

"Alright, lead the way, girls!" Asher smiled as he too was dragged off by his granddaughters.

"I take it from the way you spoke about lingering guests, that a few have tried to stay after a party before, Leon?" Kaito questioned.

"Unfortunately, yes. A few times, we have caught a few teenagers using off limits areas for clandestine meetings. The cameras usually pick them up, so it makes it easy for us to find them, but once in a while they decide that the bedrooms are great places to go, despite our efforts to keep everyone contained on the first floor or on the outside grounds of the house, Mom." Leon explained.

"There was once upon a time we didn't have to worry about erstwhile guests. I guess times and party etiquette have changed since you and Vivian were children." Darrol said as they made their way to the kitchen.

"You have no idea, Mother. This is a regular occurrence unfortunately. Teenagers are their own level of hell. I don't know how you managed to have all of us kids over at once when we were teenagers. Between our two families and all our friends, weren't parties difficult?" Leon asked.

"Well, we had our mothers over often enough to help us, whether we asked or not! They would barge on in and take things into their own hands and organize everything in the blink of an eye! My mother especially was good with parties when you were still little, Leon." Kaito smiled fondly as he remembered his mother when she had been there for his eldest children's first birthday.

It had been a miracle to even see her again, let alone have her in his children's life. She had been presumed deceased since he was a teenager, and it was only later discovered that she had instead had been held captive in an underground pheromone club overseas. Thankfully that nightmare was long in the past and nothing was going to harm or befall his family again. There had been peace for so long, his eldest granddaughter was now all grown up and would eventually be starting her own family in a few years. That made him laugh at that thought.

"What's given you the giggles, Mom?" Leon asked.

"Oh, I was just thinking how you will feel when Liona brings home her one and only and introduces you to him. Or how in a few years you'll get to experience the joy of being told you'll be a grandparent!" Kaito laughed heartily.

"Oh? That won't be so bad. In a few years, maybe Liona will have her life together a bit more and maybe a mate will help bring that stability that she needs. If she's going to be a mom that's her choice, and I'll welcome any and all grandchildren she might want to bless us with. But that's so far away now. Though Vivi on the other hand, I don't think she's ready to be a grandma so soon. Even if it's a few or a dozen years off, I think it will be harder for her to come to terms with that possibility." Leon smiled at his mother.

"Oh, that brings me back!" Darrol laughed as they worked on getting the cake and leftover food packed up.

"Oh! The day that Vivi teased Asher about being a grandparent?! The day that our mates found out about Leon and Vivi's secret relationship?" Kaito giggled.

"The very one! Remember how he nearly broke when Vivian teased him about being a grandpa? That was so funny!" Darrol laughed.

"You know that's because your daughter inherited your sense of humor!" Kaito laughed as well.

"Liona inherited that sense of humor too, you know! I swear there are times her childhood pranks were so much like you when we were kids!" Darrol laughed.

Leon just smiled as he and his mothers talked and worked together. Their reminiscing just made him miss his daughter's childhood and the times they spent together. How she used to come running to him whenever she had something on her mind, or just needed help with something. It made him feel sad that those days were long over now.
