The food was already laid out in the dining hall with dishes meticulously arranged on the long wooden table.

Xia Lihua glanced at a maid passing by, the same one who had just done the laundry and asked, "Where is Grandfather?"

"Old Master went for a walk with the butler, young miss."

Xia Lihua nodded, her eyes returning to the steaming plates of food. She was concerned that the meals would get cold before Old Master Xia returned.

She waited patiently, but the minutes ticked by and her hunger grew more insistent, especially since she had skipped breakfast.

The aroma of the food wafted around her and it was tantalizing. 

Eventually, her hunger won over. She picked up her chopsticks and started eating the rice.

The moment the grains touched her tongue, she tasted the same bitter and chemical-like mint flavor as the night before. 

She set the chopsticks down and picked up her spoon, swirling it in the vegetable soup.
